You mean the Iron Golem? Summon Tarkus, trigger the boss battle, then go make yourself something to eat. Better make it something quick, though, it doesn't take long.

Head right from the boss door and go across the bridge into the tower. His summon sign's in there. Of course, my memory of the layout is hazy, so I might be way off here.

I also heavily recommend picking up the catarina helm, at the very least, from the merchant across the broken bridge so you can look fashionable for the rest of the game.

I wore the gold-trimmed robes with Havel's Helm and gauntlets. The Catarina Helm looks good, too!

Picking a weapon in Dark Souls is a tricky business. A very personal matter.
Can only decide after trying and testing if one's moveset suits you.

For example once I've tried the Zweihander from the Graveyard by the Firelink Shrine, I couldn't get myself to use any other weapon. Everything else just felt... weak and/or short. But I know many people swear by other weapons, that I've tried and didn't like the feel of.

Yeah absolutely. It varies on how it feels in hand to the player. I loved the basic steel axe, upgraded extensively and later upgraded to fire +5. Not the most statistically efficient, but the flow it gave me in my hand to hand combat felt good to me. I also loved the Halbard and its jab and swing range, as well as various spears and greatswords. Powerful fire casting with chaos +10. Its always fun and interesting seeing other weapons at use and how good another player is with that weapon. As a thorough looter, I missed a couple good ones.
