The spear is so useful, but I got so much crap in my bag, where can I sell it? How can I kill fire bomb throwers from rooftops?

I saw a big black knight guy, I jabbed him with my spear and he turned around and swing at me, took nearly half my health and I ran up some ladders.
EDIT: Died. No magic and he just violated me in a corner.

You can't. Later on there will be someone in Firelink Shrine that you can dump stuff on. Enjoy your large assortment of broken straight swords.
How can I kill fire bomb throwers from rooftops?
I'm not sure which ones you mean...the only firebombers I remember were the ones by the bridge near the bonfire and the one with two buddies behind a house.
I saw a big black knight guy, I jabbed him with my spear and he turned around and swing at me, took nearly half my health and I ran up some ladders.
Technically you don't have to kill him, you can leave him alone. If you've got a pile of firebombs and fire magic, go nuts. Try to keep your distance. He doesn't respawn if you kill him, so there's that.
Oh, and about upgrading magic damage... that ain't happening until you find the pyromancy trainer. Upgrading your pyromancy flame is the only way to increase damage with pyromancy spells.

That said, there are a few items (rings etc) and spells that can increase pyromancy damage or damage in general. If i remember right, the bellowing dragoncrest and the crown of dusk increases pyromancy damage (even though their description refers to sorcery). You can also use the power within and/or the red tearstone ring to increase damage in general.
Although min-maxing pyromancy/sorcery/miracles does take quite some time and research, it's probably one of the best ways to deal with bosses etc since you don't need to get too close.
I would recommend checking some of the dark souls wikia articles for a description of the various stats.
In simple terms, (most) weapons have a scalable aspect to them and will scale (increase in damage) based on one or more primary stats. The extent of the scaling and the type of scaling is determined on a weapon by weapon basis, but generally speaking, bigger weapons scale with strength, faster lighter weapons scale with dexterity, talismans and certain weapons scale with faith, and catalysts and certain weapons scale with intelligence.
Thus, depending on weapons you want to specialise in, you may want to invest varying amounts into the various primary stats. If you're running around with ultra greatswords that scale well with strength, you probably will want to pump strength (up to 40-50, since diminishing returns makes anything higher than 50 pretty pointless). If you're using katanas, daggers, or bows that scale with dexterity you'll want to pump dexterity. If you're a spell caster you'll want to invest in the relevant stat (intelligence for sorcery, faith for miracles).
On a side note, dexterity also increases spell casting speed so may prove to be a little more useful for spell casters.
The other stats that are important are vitality, endurance, and attunement.
Vitality is pretty straight forward- it just increases your hp. For the first playthrough or so, getting 40 vitality will make the game a lot more forgiving.
Endurance is also important- it increases your stamina and your equipment load/capacity. A high endurance allows you block, dodge and attack more times in a row, as well as allowing you to maintain mobility while wearing heavier armour. This more important for pvp (so you can wear enough armour and get enough poise to prevent stunlocks), but it's still advisable to get a decent amount of endurance for any build for mobility/dodging.
Attunement increases the number of spellslots you have available, so you can have more spells available between bonfires. It's very important for builds depending on sorceries, miracles, or pyromancies.
I think the only other stat is resistance. It's kind of the rubbish stat you don't want to put anything into (unless you're doing a very very specialised build).

There's a ladder leading up to the firebombers on the rooftop?
The best way to kill the black knight (for the uninitiated
If you're a bit more of a risk taker you can beat it with a few backstabs (even without fancy weapons). You'll probably need a 100% damage reduction shield (e.g. the heater shield) and just circle it, blocking and staying out of range. It's moveset is fairly predictable, so backstabbing it isn't too hard. An even more riskier approach would be to parry it. I haven't really had much luck with that approach.
If you found the black knight fun, wait till you meet harvel haha.

If you're running out of storage capacity I would recommend getting a bottomless box from the merchant in the undead burg. Just dump all the stuff you don't need into the box until you reach the stage where you can exchange them for some souls.
There's no inventory cap, is there? I'm quite sure you can carry everything you pick up, since there's no "do you want to pick this garbage up? yes/no" option when you're looting a corpse.
I guess some people like having neat and clean inventories though. Not me, I'm a hoarder.

Haha I just checked, and supposedly there's a limit of 1984 items (not counting keys/scrolls).
I think when I first started I got confused about the whole weight capacity thing, and in an attempt to reduce my weight I started unloading everything into the bottomless box.
But yeah, besides a slight disadvantage in having to scroll past hundreds of broken swords and hollow solider waistcloths, I suppose there's no harm in just carting around everything.

Welcome to Dark Souls. Did you die? Home to many mid to high level enemies early on. I forgot to mention circling enemies while targeting...that is key.
You can come back later or firebomb him. Buy firebombs from the merchant nearby. Grind a little and level if you so wish. The black knight is a shrimp compared to another enemy not too far away.
Keep going. You can beat this. Conjure your gaming powers and focus. This is a true challenge. Rise up and meet it. Doing pretty good. Early on you die more often then later....slightly, anyway.

*Spoilers ahead*
All the new areas and content were great and added some unexpected surprises and challenges for me. Both Kalameet and Knight Artorias were hard boss fights and took me several tries each to beat each one but what I loved most about the expansion was the story it added and no I'm not talking about the whole "rescue Princess Dusk" quest-line but the story around the fall of Oolacile and its transformation into Darkroot.
Yes the new content seems to confirm that the Age of Dark is bad for humanity as the darkness not only destroyed Oolacile but it corrupted Artorias and transformed a human named Manus into a demonic creature. Manus is referred to as the "Father of The Abyss" so one can only assume he was the first human to listen to Kaathe and try to bring darkness into the world. In the end the darkness corrupted him and drove him insane just as it did to the Four Kings. Oolacile later listened to Kaathe and believed him and made contact with The Abyss awakening Manus which eventually led to its downfall.
Darkroot is now all that remains of Oolacile proving that the Age of Dark is not good but there is some truth in Kaathe's words as the new content seems to suggest that humanity themselves came from The Abyss. When you're down there you fight spirits that look like humanity and they drop an awful lot of it too. It's no wonder why Lord Gwyn "commanded his children to shepherd the humans" as he clearly knew what their origins were. Humanity is off the dark and capable of unleashing it and all Lord Gwyn wants is to prevent that and lead humanity into the light which he clearly did for a great many.
Knight Artorias had conquered The Abyss from the main game and later went to Oolacile when he heard of the darkness rising there. He took Sif along with him but ultimately the darkness claimed him in the end which led him to cast a shield on Sif to protect him from the darkness. Alvina leads you to rescue Sif and one can only assume that she rescues him herself if you don't. Apparently you get a new cut scene with Sif if you rescue him and then fight him but since I killed him in the present time beforehand I'll have to wait till a next play-through to see this.

I have read numerous tips and guides and many of them suggest NOT to level up to high at the beginning due to being possibly being invaded by high players with great weapons.
I'm level 27 and killed the gargoyles and the moon moth and gave the amber shard to the blacksmith.

You only get invaded when you're in human form - so if you're worried about invasions, just remain hollow most of the time. You'll hardly get invaded if you only become human when you need to summon help for bosses.
And tbh, you're more likely to get low level griefers using maxed out non-scaling fire/lightning weapons than simliar levelled players with superior weapons. And the best way to avoid those people is to simply get to a higher level.
Invasions aren't really a problem at lower levels anyway. From my experience, most of the pvp occurs at ~sl 120, within certain areas (in the forest, anor londo, etc)

What's the question? If you are hallowed you can't invaded btw so yea stay dead if you want. If you're alive and have humanity you can find better loot but doesn't really matter as much on your first playthrough.

That boss is really easy to defeat if you have that electrical spear (i know that that is not the real name) that you got from the mimic.Naughty Bear wrote...
The question is should I level up or not as I have seen game play of players defeating bosses like the Taurus demon, gargoyle demon and the lunar moth at such low levels?

I have yet to complete the game but from all the bosses i've fought he is one of the easiest ones. Of course Pinwheel is the biggest joke in the game.

My reaction to Pinwheel's fight was, and I quote, "Why was that even a boss?"
Regardless of your skill level, there's about a 99% chance you'll steamroll over him.
If you're having trouble in the forest, head back to the Undead Parish and unlock the door that leads to the Depths.
Then you can have fun while insta-dying to the Capra Demon before you even can get your bearings.

The stone golems on darkroot aren't bad, they just have that spell that slows you so you gotta really manage your stamina.
Isn't Humanity shards of the pygmy's Lord Soul?

I love Soul's lore....so many hints....so much to ponder.
The game itself is amazing, so many secrets to learn by exploring.
In the Dark Root gardens, I had no idea you could roll into this brick wall to a hidden bonfire, or attacking the trees.
Also, anyone give me tips on how to kill stone giants? Their ability to slow me down just kills me.

Get the jump on them. You can whack a bunch of their hp off as they're waking up, get behind them and switch to two-handed.
Always try to stay behind them. Their TWoP spell takes a few seconds to cast, so when you see one start to do so, hack away.
Truth be told, I don't think I killed one in my first playthrough. I stumbled upon one, got smooshed after failing to run away, and decided I'd be back when I was better. I forgot all about them.
But I got my revenge the second time around.

I'm killing everything so far with a single hit and for the stone giants in 3 hits. Just farming souls now.

The lightning spear for my dexterity warrior was useful for the most part but I swapped it for a longer spear I had upgraded up to raw 5+ when I reached the expansion content.
