Blighttown is one big death trap. The designers designed intentionally for you to depise it. You will come to know the true meaning of "pesky mosquito". Also....watch your head.
Pesky Mosquito: an eternally respawning enemy that enjoys glitching itself in the floor of Blighttown structures and screwing with your targeting, rendering itself invulnerable to your attacks while spitting garbage at you. Super fun.
In the swamp they're a minor, albeit constant, nuisance.

Lautrec is the killer? Thought he was a nice guy? Nah, back at the bonfire in the undead burge.
So how can I invade him? Says i'm in the wrong place.

...and the dreaded Anor Londo Archers. Those guys are pretty much the Dark Souls rite of passage.

They don't call him "Scumbag" Lautrec for nothing. You thought he was a good guy? All his dialogue hinted he was evil and even Oswald of Carim (the guy in the Undead Parish below the bell) pretty much warns you of him. If you speak to him at a certain point (I think it's after killing the Gaping Dragon) he mentions that he's leaving soon and how the firekeeper has served him well, he then finishes with a sinister laugh revealing his intentions. At this point I killed him in my first play-through as I had a guess that he would attempt to kill her and I was right.
However him killing the firekeeper is not all bad, killing him in Anor Londo means you get access to his armor and his ring (which substantially boosts endurance and health).
@Homebound
When I've played with summon NPC phantoms it does add to the whole combat experience. NPC phantoms can distract enemies taking them head-on while you attack from behind, heal or shoot from afar. They provide a great relief to most of the boss battles they appear in and generally make them easier. Of course NPC phantoms are limited, only appear in certain areas before certain bosses and can only travel limited distances with you. If you're really set on having a constant party then you'll need to be online and summon other players.
I've always wondered at what Dark Souls would be like if it was party-based. Imagine Solaire as a companion along with Iron Tarkus and Onionbro. Man that would be epic. However the whole atmosphere Dark Souls is trying to achieve is one where things feel hopeless and that you're alone (for the most part) on your journey.
Although I think you're saying Dark Souls is about "grinding" away to win and not being good. That's completely contrary to the truth. It's all about character build, observing enemy attacks, learning enemy weaknesses, blocking, parrying and striking at the right moment. Upgrading all your weapons to suit your build also helps. There's an incredible amount of depth to the combat in Dark Souls.

its not the same. Im talking about permanent, constant party-members who have personality and you can costumize.

How was your stay in Blighttown? Also...did you ring the second bell?
It was fun but those blow darts annoyed me big time, especially that sewer with like 6 of them in it shooting at you along wih multiple dogs.
I liked the swamp, fun to explore. And no. I didn't see any bell? Is it on the island mass with spines coming out of it and two boulder carrying monsters?
Lol, scumbag lautrec

All of my money. Take it. Siegmeyer and my chosen undead would crush the forces of evil as she rides around on his shoulders, slinging fire at everything that moves. They shall call themselves The Tower of Onion. The mere sight of them will make your eyes water with amazement.Elton John is dead wrote...I've always wondered at what Dark Souls would be like if it was party-based. You can go where you want, but eventually you have to go to that place. It has an entrance. Just book it up there and avoid the boulder a-holes. Then have a fun visit with the chick who lives there.
Also...did you find the secret area accessible from Blighttown's swamp?
I'm gonna fight the chick now, Queelag?
What secret area? TELL ME.
What is the point of valley of the drakes? I just see two routes and they don't go anywhere. I can't find sen's fortress, I have no idea where Anor Londo is and this second bell I have not even seen yet.
EDIT: Found a bridge in VOTD. I must be going blind. THAT THING IS ALIVE?

When you said you'd left Blighttown I had assumed you'd killed her already. Yeah, you gotta go back down there. Once you kill her and ring the bell, it'll show you where to go next.
The secret area is the Great Hollow. Head left from the swamp bonfire. There's a big tree you can climb up into, and inside it looks like a dead end. (there'll probably be tons of messages saying "try attacking" by the back wall) doing so will reveal a hidden room with a chest, and if you hit the wall behind that, you'll be in the great hollow.
It's not a fun place, and completely optional. You'll fall to your death many times if you're not careful.
