I just picked up this game yesterday for $13 on the Amazon sale. I haven't started playing yet,

Fix that at the first opportunity. Then come here and share your stories. We like stories. :)

You'll get a message when you can invade. It won't be for a while yet. First you'll have to dodge swinging blades and giant rocks...

...and the dreaded Anor Londo Archers. Those guys are pretty much the Dark Souls rite of passage.

I'm doing that now...Sen's fortress?

I got chased by a boulder down the stairs or slopes and found refuge. And a chest. My greed got the better of me and cost me my life.

EDIT: God that worm made me jump...

Oh, but you want what that mimic's got...

from now on, i'd suggest attacking chests before you try to open them. mimics aren't really that common, but it's better to be ready for them than not. Usually there will be a sea of orange warnings around a mimic, but sometimes not.

Oh, and I don't know how I missed your other post, but, no, Ornie & Smough aren't the final boss (they're actually in the area after Sen's) and no, Smough is a man. Those are manboobs.

Yeah, that lightning spear spear is pretty much effective for nearly the rest of the game. However since it doesn't scale with statistics it's best just to use it until you forge a weapon that actually does scale.

Urgh, I hated the Great Hollow.

And Ash Lake crushed all of my dreams. :crying: *pic is spoilerish, but it's only one of the ways this story could play out.

I never get that ending. I kill all those plant creatures in the pit in Lost Izalith without Siegmeyer's help, he rewards me with the Speckled Stoneplate Ring and then vanishes with his quest-line finished. Getting him to help you (and survive that encounter) leads to the other ending in the Ash Lake.

The **** is finally dead. Ok, she is the hardest boss.

There are two people here who'd like to speak with you.

And once you meet Artorias and Kalameet, Ornstein and Smough are like undead hollows from the asylum in comparison. Besides, having Solaire on your side during the O&S fight makes things much easier. You get no summoned help for Artorias or Kalameet...

Quelagg is pretty hard, Naughty. Imo second hardest boss...haven't fought Kalameet or Artorias the Abysswalker yet, though, myself. She has that lunge lava attack and that cursed area of effect attack. I once had her to a sliver of health, three flasks and good health and got tangled in her legs and died instantly from that, causing rage.

You're doing good...keep at it.

Having a good time?

I don't know which boss I'd say is second hardest. I've never fought Ceaseless Discharge the "right" way...he seemed like he would have been pretty tough. And yes, I feel bad for "cheating."

I didn't like Bed of Chaos. Of course, the boss itself wasn't exactly hard, running all the way there only to miss the jump wasn't my idea of fun.

I also had some trouble with the Stray Demon on my first playthrough. Stupid unblockable cloud of stink.

I admit to having fits with Capra, but that was early level. Ceaseless took me three tries before I figured it out.

Four Kings, too. I used to travel to them all the way from the Undead Parish/Sen's Fortress bonfire. Every time.

I wish I could have fought the Witch of Izalith one on one.

Gwyn is by far the most aggressive...I beat him using all Chaos fire. And a few Fire Orbs +10

So I fired the game up today...

Putting aside the pathetically long time it takes to get into the game itself (with the unskippable intros, the load time for Steam and the incomprehensibly long time for GFWL to decide it wants to do anything), I find I'm really shocked at the pathetic (non)control with the mouse. Anyone playing this with KB/M? If so, how have you tweaked it to make it bearable? I don't own a console controller, so that's out.

So i completed the game yesterday and there is one thing i can't understand. How can the developers from this game who made awesome bossfights like Ornstein and Smough make that frustrating Bed of chaos bossfight!
That boss was the only thing that made me rage in this game. I haven't been raging at a videogame as much as i did 2 days ago in years.

That being said if this was 2011 Dark Souls would be one of my GOTY's. It's an amazing game really. Just that god awful Bed of chaos bossfight irks me the wrong way.

Yeah, having the same problem with it. It'd definitely be the game that'll make me buy a controller.

@Wimbini

Bed of Chaos is cheap difficulty. I don't even bother fighting it legitimately anymore. I break one node, exit the game and reenter the area which means I don't have to trek back to the center to reach another node. Once I break the second node, I exit the game again, renter the area and head straight for the bed of chaos. With Havel's Armor and a shield with 100% protection, the Bed of Chaos shouldn't even be able to knock you down so it causes me no problems anymore.

But yeah I thought the fire was poorly designed. I beat it twice legitimately but couldn't be bothered anymore after that.

The worst part? You slide down a long ramp to reach this boss which almost makes it seem like you're going to fight some epic badass boss and it's just some crappy tree with demonic arms. Although admittedly, I do like how it summons a chaos storm on the ramp as you're coming down if you've broke both of its nodes (although it never gets you on the ramp, it does look cool though).

I really have to get back into this. I stopped my last playthrough at Ornstein and Smough. I was getting invaded pretty much non-stop because I killed Gwyndolin. At least I assume that's the reason. Sorry, Blades of the Darkmoon! I just wanted the achievement! I won't do it again!

Fun fact: you can escape an invading phantom by passing Ornie & Smough's fog door. I didn't know that. I thought everything was blocked off.

Yeah I've been put off abit. It's not the traps or the snakes or the massive blades. It's just dying then having to restart over in going through the traps.

It's that real thin bridge with the blades and a snake bastard on the left that shoots lightining at you that annoys me.

I recommend a bow. Snipe those snakes and draw them into their own traps.

It's actually the only place in the game I used a bow, aside from pinging the hellkite dragon for the drake sword.

I didn't know this existed, but I am definitely gonna get myself one of those.

I think I left a mimic in Anor Londo...

Well. my first foray back into Dark Souls wasn't exactly a productive one. The Ornstein and Smough boss fight isn't the best place to relearn how to play.

However.

I take back what I said about Solaire being a turd. He just about single handedly butchered Ornstein. He died just as Ornstein did, and I had Super Smough down to nothing...

...and the phone rang. That one lapse of concentration was enough for Smough to finally win his game of Electric Whack-a-Mole. I hate phones.

I figured, well, this'll be easy, I can do this. (I also tried to make myself feel better by reminding myself I needed Ornstein's soul anyway, as I already had Smough's.)

And then came the invasions. I was getting backstabbed as I was halfway down the drop from Solaire's summon sign. I get backstabbed when I'm nowhere near the phantom.

If I wait around to kill everything in the room, I'll certainly be invaded. If I don't kill everything, Solaire will hang back and chip away at those giant knights and will be of no help in the boss battle.

Looks like I'll be unplugging my internet the next time I play.

Mildred is a set NPC phantom that happens even when you're offline (but human.)There are a few of those. When you play online, random human players like "XXxxBoBaFeTtxxXX" (<--actual invader I encountered tonight) can invade your game and exploit backstabs to murder you in cold blood

...just because I killed one silly covenant leader...

My first playthrough I stuck with the Way of White covenant for a good half of the game and was a good girl. I got invaded a grand total of twice. Once it bumped me back to the title screen because my internet is garbage.

But now since I'm not in the way of white, which lessens invasions (I'm Chaos Servant +2! Woo!...seriously though, look into that. You may want to cheat, as it's easy to make a mistake you didn't even realize you were making)...and I killed a covenant leader, I'm on the list of sinners, and it makes me a target.

Since I've no interest in PvP, i just find it a huge nuisance.

Shep,

Summon Solaire, kill the giants with him, unsummon him using the White Stone thingie, exit the game and reload and when you summon him again he'll have full health. The giants will be dead and you'll be able to take on O&S with Solaire at full health.

Can't you summon player help against those invaders in Anor Londo? Another reason I'll never play this game online.

Huh. I never thought about reloading. That would work. Thanks for the tip!

...and I rarely see any human summon signs. I'm not sure why. Everybody would tell me there's a bunch outside the fog door... there never is. I think I've seen one this playthrough, outside the Capra Demon's door.

I'm chalking it up to my crappy internet.

I too used a bow on that cobra mage on the bridge. And it was also the only time I used a bow. I found it tactically helpful, especially since its electricity rarely hits you. I don't know if it was a bug or not, but it used to become invisible after I hit it with a bunch of shots...and it would back off into the room behind it. Either a bug or terrific AI. Either way, Sen's Fortress is a great time to use the Eagle Shield as well...for obvious reasons.

I loved the sick and horrible feeling when I got knocked off the ledge into the goo bottom with 15,000 souls, surrounded by Titanite demons and mages. I was terrified and scared to lose my souls, and I knew my death was inevitable. But it was an amazing feeling. I had no idea where I was, with one flask.

I looked around hardcore for Sen's Fortress's bonfire, and when I found it, I jumped for joy (and almost died) because I was flasked out and had a sliver of health...and the drop cut that sliver into half
