Sequel.

I don't care about what happened in the pre-destroy/synthesis/control era any more.

Now I want to see how Galaxy works after Shepard has done his part.

Sequel. I don't really want to play a prequel knowing that no matter what I do, the results will always be the same. I want to see how they pull off a ME game without Shepard or most of the characters from the first trilogy.

Sequal.

Regardless of which ending you choose, there's simply so much more potential for telling new and exciting stories by going forward, rather than revisiting events in the past where we already know how things play out.

Sequel, preferably using the Destroy ending as canon.

Hardly. A sequel makes more sense... Prequels have preset stories which kind of defeats the purpose of Mass Effect. We need to alter the story and make it our own and well... that can only be done with a sequel.

Multiplayer spinoff.

Because ME3's multiplayer did well.

Because the narrative of Mass Effect is essentially over.

Because Montreal studio.

Because Hudson's Edmonton team is doing something unannounced (either that or they're sitting around doing nothing, which I don't think is plausible).

Has to be a sequel, choose a canon ending and stick to it, destroy would make the most sense, wrex as leader of the genophage free krogan and the quarians on rannoch.

You could carry over some of the data from ME3, that would give nice easter eggs e.g. such as hearing about certain shepards deeds and choices in news articles, maybe meeting a broken down, bitter joker after EDI dies via the catalyst if you got them together and more.

But only have cameos from the old cast, put them in high responsibility places so they cant rundle around the planets with a new protagonist, E.g. maybe part of a new council on a rebuilt citadel or a planet or something? Vakarian, Liara, Tali and Bakara Urdnot, would make a nice famailiar council to have.

I'd really like to see how they push through the destruction/rebuilding of the mass relays, how the quarians fare, how earths rebuilding goes, what happens with the krogen breeding again, you could have some scandals such as the knowledge of Asaris using the prothean beacons to uplift themselves comeing to the forefront, all these races game together, beat the Reapers, but then what, old rivalries surface, actions of the war cause new rifts etc etc.

They have shed loads of more familiar material to build on rather then whisking away to 300 years ahead or back etc.

Sidequel. Set during the time frame as the first 3.

I want sequels because I want to know what happens next (to the universe, to Shepard and to the rest of the cast), but I wouldn't mind seeing a prequel like this:

Selene Moonsong wrote...

The story of Shepard from origin to hero...

The spacer, earth-born, or colonist exploring Shepard's past, through his/her joining the Alliance, adventures as a young soldier, and all leading up to the grand finale of events leading up to Shep becoming a hero.

To cap it off, design the game so that your Shep can be imported into ME 1.

That, IMHO, would be a perfect prequel.

Sequel is a disaster waiting to happen. That's just my opinion, though.

Sequel. Shep might be gone, but everything he/she fought for persists.

Sequel. If I want to be anal, make synthesis canon. Ultimately though I don't really care. Just as long as it's a sequel. Prequels are stagnant. Lets move this series forward.

Sequel. Would really feel apathetic to a prequel.

Set it a hundred years later when the choices can be largely glossed over. Geth/Quarians are back around whatever you chose, Reapers defeated and left the galaxy, that green skin thing faded away.

The choices you made in the ME trilogy might be "glossed over" after 1,500 years,  but definitely not after a century. And even then, the three endings are too varied to continue the franchise without making one of the endings a canon.

Sequel's nigh impossible unless then canonize most of what happened in the third game.

Imagine the backlash.

Bioware dont have the balls to do anything spectacular anymore, so i can only imagine that they will just use the last scene as an excuse to rewrite their games (if its nothing more than a grandpa's story to his grandson, then boom...you can deny anything happened in the first place).

We will get nothing more than a sequal with the completely boring Leviathans as the new canon, since they created the Reapers, they were always enemies by proxy, especially with their beliefs about lesser folk.

Then they can revitalise the lovecraftian design where they destroyed the last one by making the Reapers less than scary.

Never expect a conglomerate like EA to care about anything other than profit, their margins are getting lower by the year and they no longer have the patience for your whining anymore.

You mean like the backlash over how stupid the ending was? To which they responded with the Extended Cut and it's "explainations." Somehow I don't think Bioware care much about fan backlash.

Sequel

i love to see how Bioware will go about makeing all our choices lead to the same place in the story, like if any character die in a past game a "understudy" filled their role in the story for example Wrex and Wreav or Mordin and Padok. and how they made any big choices pervent plot points from happening for exaple killing off the rachni in the 1st one will not stop them from being in the 3rd one.

From a technical and business standpoint: (This is EA we're talking about, remember that when you think about what you are expecting to see)

You only have so much time and money to make the next game. There are budgets for everything - How much time can all the levels take, how many hours of voice acting can there be, and so on. The goal is to cram as much "fun" as you can into a game that will be X hours long. So when the devs are presented with an opportunity they have to say, "Will this make the game more fun or expand the story in a meaningful way?"

That being said, I doubt the next game will make any playable* references to parts of the story where Shepard made a decision, so no Geth/Quarians on Rannoch, no Destroy/Control, no save/kill the council, collector base and so on. Including that in the story will take too much development time from other fun things. What you will likely encounter in-game are references that had to occur for every player, Normandy 1 being destroyed, Eden Prime invaded, Illusive man killed.

*If they include that stuff at all, you will just see it in an email or some elevator news. At best, it might be in a pre-rendered cutscene like the opening to ME2 where you see the impact of your imported Shep's decisions.
