Naw, we'd be cool with whatever you to do with him... well, at least us ladies (and gents) from the Cullen thread would be. Can't speak for the others though.

I like the idea of a guy who's so completely (nearly insanely) against mages who eventually turns on his superior because of his basic humanity.

Cullen's.... a mess of a human being.

There's no way he's not a mess. He saw friends torn to shreds by abominations and then suffered untold amounts of psychic and physical torture. Then on top of everything else the Templar Order proves itself corrupt and crazy as well.

The only Cullen could disappoint me in DA3 is if he's well adjusted. Because I can't see him not having any mental/emotional/physical problems after the decade he's had.

What could happen to poor Cullen in DA3?

I'm sure that, if we did include him in DA3, no matter what direction we take him some people will declare him Ruined FOREVER. I mean, what if we contravened headcanon? Perish the thought. There's so much blank canvas which has been filled in by his fans, it's practically impossible we could do otherwise.

Ultimately, if we do include him, he won't be included for his fans exclusively-- despite the fact they're most likely the ones to claim that's why he'd be present. Those are, after all, the people most likely to be displeased. So any inclusion would be for nefarious purposes of our own. Or to make his fans cry bitter tears. Both are worthy goals, insofar as we're concerned.

That, of course, depends on us including him in any capacity. :wizard:

Hey, we posted almost the same thing. Great minds think alike. :P

lol I think the only thing that would make us Cullen fans rage is .... I can't really think of anything. But you could make us cry by giving him a horrific and dishonorable death.

Tbh I hang out in the Cullen thread because it is, in fact, the most friendly, fun, and reasonable thread at the BSN. No rude people, no crazies, we love the devs, we love Cullen, it's all good, man!

He could be an interesting character, but I do hope we don't have to accept that changing sides when he did makes his role in the annullment OK.

Of course the new PC might not know all the details, but it seems like it would be a fairly key moment in his history and would thus be likely to come up.

ah, David Gaider, the Bringer of Light....

Although, it wouldn't be Cullen fans that thought DA included him just for them. Nooooo...it would be all the haters calling it fanservice. And going on about how they can't wait to kill him off..and so forth and so on..

good times

There are a couple of dialogue options in DA2 that suggest Cullen is suffering from PTSD. I've been told by others are who more knowledgable than I that some of his behavior is textbook.

There's a-lot more to PTSD than what a person says. Did what happen impact him? Yes, but to take a few lines he says and determine that they are "classic" or to use your term "textbook" PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) indicators is seriously stretching. Also "textbook" refers to a class room medium and although what a person might learn in a textbook in college is significant, it in no way is what a qualified professional uses to determine if a person has PTSD. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is not something everybody gets; whereas, being more aware and careful of situations has more to do with having an awareness of how things can go wrong. I certainly am not in a profession that would allow me to diagnose Cullen, but I am in a position to know what the major symptoms of PTSD are and I haven't seen those with Cullen. *shrugs*

As you say, we all see different things in a character with so little screentime. Can't agree or disagree with you, since as I said previously, this what others have told me. Some see him in DA2 as a crazy magekiller, others see someone so balanced it's hard to imagine he's suffered. All of this will make his potential inclusion in future games interesting.

You got that right!

Us fans would be too busy squeeing over the fact that he's even in the game, to even consider why he might be in it in the first place lol.

Ironically, we were just discussing this elsewhere. I think any character will surprise us once we learn more, but it doesn't stop us from wanting to know more if it's a character we find interesting. It would be nice, however, for a discussion of Cullen to not be about his fans for once...

Even if he's some types of villains, there are plenty of fanbase for them, why are Cullen fans the onely ones who get the crazy tag? That just boggles my mind. :pinched:

Depend on how you intepret his character, I don't think he's crazy at all, more like misunderstood. I'm saying it as someone who is pro-mage and always play as a mage. A lot of the ending slides are rumors, so some of the things they said he did might not actually happen. Considering that if he broke down and killed a bunch of mages then ran away afterward, he wouldn't be at Kirkwall serving as Knight Captain. Unless he got demoted, the ending where he became a Knight Commander who rules with an ironfist wouldn't be fit either. He has become pretty mellow during the Kirkwall event. You can't say someone is crazy just because he freaked out at the mage tower. It's understandable that he overreacted since his friends were tortured to death by mages in front of his eyes. ^_^

Double the crazy, double the fun. *Twitches*

But seriously though, we're all perfectly normal and healthy individuals in real life. It's a bit cruel tarnishing us all with the same brush.

*sigh*  Hmm, "to-may-to, to-mah-to"? "I'm the rubber,  you're the glue..."?  Everyone gets so judgey about Cullen fans, when anyone who comes to these forums "off-season" is a fanatic at some level. Embrace the crazy.
