*sigh*  Hmm, "to-may-to, to-mah-to"? "I'm the rubber,  you're the glue..."?  Everyone gets so judgey about Cullen fans, when anyone who comes to these forums "off-season" is a fanatic at some level. Embrace the crazy.

True enough. The Cullen fans have a 1000+ page thread devoted to a relatively minor character-- they're no more crazy than someone spending years of their life on a forum to **** about things they don't like. They are, however, still crazy... so it might be worth not being quite so touchy about it every time someone looks their way. If these forums have proven anything, it's that they're a lightning rod for crazy in general.

I still think they'll be the first ones to surround the tower with pitchforks if something was potentially done with him that they didn't like-- but if not? Then cool. That would, however, certainly be a first.

And, yes... obviously I am referring to each and every one of them, who will all react in the exact same way, and not just to the lone few who would post their ire in every single thread they could. ;)

Oh my god I'm having flashbacks to back when Anders was announced as a companion for DA2

WE HAD NO IDEA.

Cullen fans, TAKE WARNING for the love of pete

Also allow me to be a little hipster here, DA2 Anders thread was the original crazy train thread and Cullen's got nothing on him.  YET.

What could happen to poor Cullen in DA3?

I'm sure that, if we did include him in DA3, no matter what direction we take him some people will declare him Ruined FOREVER. I mean, what if we contravened headcanon? Perish the thought. There's so much blank canvas which has been filled in by his fans, it's practically impossible we could do otherwise.

Ultimately, if we do include him, he won't be included for his fans exclusively-- despite the fact they're most likely the ones to claim that's why he'd be present. Those are, after all, the people most likely to be displeased. So any inclusion would be for nefarious purposes of our own. Or to make his fans cry bitter tears. Both are worthy goals, insofar as we're concerned.

That, of course, depends on us including him in any capacity. :wizard:

Allow me to freely interpret your teaser of a post: Cullen WILL be included as a romanceable character companion and he WILL be so mistreated during the game's plot development, not to mention that any and every attempt to have a successful relationship with him WILL utterly fail, that his fans will probably petition the government to have Bioware closed down, a la Right of Annulment.

I approve immensely!

We're ever so friendly though!

I don't mind being crazy, it beats being dull anyway. (Only took us 6 month's to jump up 1000+ pages.)

It's also a 1000+ page thread about a templar that has never once turned into a mage/templar rant. Crazy? Maybe, but in a good way.

People tell stories to amuse each other until the next game comes out. Nobody thinks they're anything but light entertainment. At the very least, it's harmless.

It would be a sad, boring forum if we all just clicked through the game once and forgot about it until the next title came out.

Cullen is awesome and the only reason that i would support the templars, even as a mage (been playing in a lov magic divine group homebrew D&D group myself, where mages were not Well recieved)

I see alot of potenial around Cullen, either as a companion or a Major NPC, sinds he can be shaped in many ways based upon two games. Sure there is some basic of who he is, what kind of person he is, his moral and what preferens he has. However they could be changed based upon the actions and choice of the two games.

Romance? Sure, why not.

Touche, David, and thanks for the response. Indeed, we'll be the first to say that there's a bit of crazy in every discussion on the Cullen forums, and in fact, we have. :)  But, the fact that we're the red-headed stepchildren of the DA fandom around here is why typically some of us then retreat back to the Cullen thread. It's just a shame that legitimate discussion of  Cullen  as a character can't really happen around these parts.

And with that, back to my crazy Cullen cabal... where pitchforks are not allowed... ;)

If the DA2 face morphs had been as unkind to him as it was to Bann Teagan, there would be zero Cullen threads.

DG has a point. The Dragon Age universe is not kind to its cast members. If Cullen appeared in DA3, there's a good chance he'd be killed, be tortured, be imprisoned, be possessed, go crazy or be corrupted by darkspawn. And even if he avoids those fates, it's certainly not going to be the "Shirtless Cullen" party some imagine it to be.

You wanna see crazy?  Head back to Origin's Zevran thread.

And Gaider, I will send you a cake if you make him into just another cameo battle you need to do, to tie up loose ends (like Sophia Dryden).

And if I remember well, that short story was posted the same day Bioware announced who were the four LI in DA2.

The more of those that happen to him.  The more I'll love DA:I extra bonus if I get to personnaly do it to him.

Possibly. The guy is a bad luck magnet. That said, odds are good that if the character did return, whatever happened to him in the interrim wouldn't be boring.

Returning characters aren't always subjected to calamity, though. Isabela and Merrill were bit characters in DA:O, and they made the transition to DA2 with flying colors and cool character development to boot.

  • Zevran wasn't a beloved character from a previous installment
  • Zevran didn't have a backstory that involved eating people
  • Zevran wasn't possessed by another beloved character from a previous installment
  • Zevran didn't blow up a chantry and kill a lot of people
No, I don't think Zevran's DAO thread had a complete and utter meltdown at any point in time that compared to what happened in the DA2 Anders thread.  And did I mention the pages and pages of debate about the meaning of terrorism?  Interrupted by MANWICHES

To keep from getting way too off-topic now, I'll say that when he was possessed by Justice, he blacked out and things got ugly real quick with some Templars that jumped him.
