I don't think it's possible for Cullen to get a fate worse than Anders', but the writers could always prove me wrong.  Dear Maker, I hope they don't take that as a challenge   And hey, crazy abomination dude and magical fisting elf are love interests.  Why not damaged but still kind of a decent person templar?  He looks pretty normal compared to Anders and Fenris.

I'll say it now. Cullen will be new host for our favourite (target in my case) spirit/demon.

He didn't. Angry Pants just likes being a troll.

Nonsense, I'm hardly alone in having interpreted the passage that way.  Not to mention, nobody with a BioWare tag that I can recall ever dispossessed us of that notion.

Until now.

But I do like being a troll.  On that note, thanks again for the Fenris gold mine.

Yes, do come to the Cullen thread. Where everyone is actually very friendly and normal. Where we have pleasant conversations about not just Cullen but DA in general and how much we enjoy the games and look forward to the sequel. Where we form friendships and just generally have a good time.

Then for some bizarre reason get called crazy by half the forum. And then people start up Cullen hate threads, the bulk of which are composed of people asking, Why do so many people make threads about Cullen?"

It's like ... fan-shaming lol But shaming fans of your own game, or a game you also love. Just because, I don't know, you're bored or something.

You're right, there's not much to make fun of there.

Yet.

I had that impression when I read that short story. I thought "eaten flesh" mean that Anders ate some parts of the people he killed.
Though I'm not a native English user, so I don't know if it's a figure of speech or something similar.

I'm kind of amazed that Cullen has achieved cult status. He kind of came and went without me noticing him much in both games.

LOL.  He and Evangeline can have a disillusioned templar spirit-off.

Evangeline has a fairly decent spirit, Cullen would have the spirit/demon that is willing to kill mages (the people his host wants to protect) because they are scared from him.  And a spirit powerful enough to control you if you disagree with it.
I don't think that Bioware would do this (my suggestion was a joke), though it would be the sure way to ****** off the Cullen fanbase.

Thank the Maker I wasn't the only one...XD

I'd love to have Cullen as a LI. The Cullen/Mage romance would be an interesting arch considering his past interest in F!Amell as well as his duty to oppose mages. Fascination with the forbidden is always a juicy if bittersweet story. That's why I love to romance Fenris as a mage. :P

Of course, if Amell was male then the templar despised him, but that does not mean Cullen is not bi or won't take interest in the same sex. I really don't mind either way.

Regardless...

:pinched:

Not QUITE what I meant.  Alistair is a relatively normal human being.  Garrus (species aside) and Kaidan are pretty chill and well-adjusted dudes too, especially by ME3.  You don't have to have a tormented character to make a good love interest, though it certainly does help add spice to things :D

Oh, Bioware has done relatively normal love interests before. The question is, will they do it for Dragon Age? (Besides Alistair, I mean.)

Aye, normal isn't the right word.. more like "balanced" and not "completely off your rocker".

It's kind of a double-edged sword.  Polarizing and messed up characters add a lot of color, drama, and variation to the story, even when not romanced.  More "normal" characters can still be fascinating and engaging, but slide them too far toward normal and you get the Jacob effect.  I actually liked Jacob, but I understand I'm in the minority there, and a lot of folks like their companions and LIs with a bit more bite.

Personally, given how Anders is my favorite DA character, I'm all for crazy, and Cullen could definitely slide that way after all he's been through.  But he could also turn out better adjusted than most players in the mage/templar conflict.  It's open-ended where his character development goes, and that's what makes it interesting.

Are you sure about that though. Kaidan is generally pretty well-received and has a big fanbase, and he's relatively stable and normal.

I was not really big on Cullen until after viewing some fanmade videos featuring him (made using the toolset). THEN my interest flamed up big time! Perhaps it is similar to Hunger Games, where noone was really interested in Katniss until Peeta professed his crush on her. So, where do I join the Cullen fan club?

Perhaps I wasn't clear.  There are likeable, well-received LIs who are stable and reasonably normal.  Kaidan, Alistair, and Garrus are prime examples.  I was talking about potential pitfalls of the writers going for a character like that, namely ending up with a character like Jacob Taylor.  A major complaint about Jacob was that he was "too" normal and lacked personality.

Basically, making a character too "normal" or too off the wall are pretty good ways of tanking a character.  The problem is that that line is different for everyone, and the writers just have to try and make the characters work for as many people as possible.

I still think they'll be the first ones to surround the tower with pitchforks if something was potentially done with him that they didn't like-- but if not? Then cool. That would, however, certainly be a first.

Yeah, you know I really wouldn't worry about the pitchforks and the tower thing. Mainly because...our loins are girded --if you will.

Cullen fans are already braced for whatever. The main whatever being that he's not even in DA3. We hope he is, but we have no idea.

Secondly, we're braced for the idea that IF he's even in it. And he's a companion. And he's an LI.....that you guys will do something horrific to him in an effort to feast on our sweet, sweet fan tears.

We won't be surprised if that happens. The wind carries your cackles to our gentle, sweet fan ears.

Usually the  pitchforks don't come out unless ppl get surpised. In a bad way.  At this point, anything horrific you guys do to him won't surprise us.

tl;dr: no worries.

NOOOO!  Don't give them a challenge!  Now Cullen will be possessed by Justice, Faith, and look like Meredith.  In drag.

Hey there, I took it the same way when I first read it. It was pretty explicitly stating by how it was written that Anders/Vengeance was in the mood for some long pork.

No that was not explicitly stated. You inferred that. At best it was implied, though certainly not intentionally.

"Explicitly stated" would have been "I ate those templars". Perhaps "explicit" means something else where you come from.

Either way, why does anyone care at this point?
