She's a character your supposed to love to hate.

She's one of the only characters to really not treat Shepard with any degree of respect. THAT is what you're supposed to "like" about her. I think people get caught up with their Shepards and how their Shepards "personally" feel about her rather then her as a character. And then they also get caught up in how every character has to deep and thought provoking. Long day gone are our characters who simply don't give a ****. I have a lot more respect for these since they're rare in these types of stories.

Shepard is not supposed to "like" Aria. He/She is supposed to think someone needs to slap her. But we as players are supposed to "enjoy" her character because it's entertaining.

I don't want her to be all "praise the hero of the galaxy" towards shepard...but she should respect him more than she does. She basically treats him as one of her lacky's.

I think there needs to be a mutual respect. She should respect him in the sense that the "hero of galaxy" isn't taking her down because he has respect for her. Shepard knows she is more than just a ruthless crime lord.

There should be a mutual respect...not just because they can help each other with certain goals...but because of where they are in their repective fields.

I think that type of relationship would be great for her character to completely be one of a kind.

The "Hero of the Galaxy" and Omega's "warlord ruler" see eye to eye...they respect one anothers status.

The way she has been currently shown...Aria doesn't respect Shepard in that way.

Personally I am ambivalent towards her as well. I neither like nor actively dislike here. I do see her as the lesser evil when looking at the alternatives. She is able to maintain control of the various gangs and factions and keep them form actively warring with each other. And even though it can be argued that it benefits her in the long run she still supports Shepard against Cerberus and the Reapers which counts for something.

She's a necessary evil.

Personally, I like her.

She has her uses. I see her as sort of the apex predator of Omega, keeps the various factions in line lets regular occupants of the station have a more or less normal life. She's more of a business relation than anything else, I wouldn't make the mistake of thinking her and Shep are friends, that's not how Aria does things. But there is a some sense of respect and even fair amount of honesty between the two I'd say. If you do her a favor she'll be sure the repay it, just don't expect her to do things for free unless she gains to benefit form your actions.

I think she's an OK character, in terms of her dialogue and role in the plot. I just don't trust her or see her as a worthy ally. I think some of the apprehension may be from those of us who are concerned that helping Aria will be presented as the main reason for launching the mission to take back Omega or that we'll have to put her back in power at the end. (I haven't kept up with the more recent spoilers, so I'm not sure if this has been verified or debunked recently.)

You're right. Problem is, she's a criminal mastermind who virtually pulls all strings on Omega, the kind of person, Shepard is supposed to fight.

As  I said: THATS NOT HER CHARACTER - it is not in her character to really respect anyone unless they are to her face - "SHUT UP ****." as was Patriarch. Shepard throughout both games is pretty much her lackey. He/she doesn't stand up to her - she casually brushes him aside. On a personal level, Shepard hasn't done anything for her. Just an overly zealous henchman who took care of the mercs for her. Sure he maybe keeping her alive during the Reapers but Aria is concerned with own survival - Shepard would have done it anyway.

I love Aria as a character, but my Shepard is also very practical and sees Aria's usefulness. Nyreen is gonna have to be very convincing for me to not support Aria in whatever her venture may be (if it comes to that of course).

I think she's a great character. I wish my Shepard had the option to disagree with her more though. Looking forward to this DLC.

I agree, and this is why I don't really understand the notion that she'd ever really be an ally or (worse) a romantic possibility for Shepard - what exactly makes her any better than the Helena Blakes and Vido Santiagos of the galaxy? She is an interesting, well-written ruthless crime lord whose role in the story usually makes sense, sure, but IRL I'd never turn my back to her for a second. At most, I could see a Renegade Shepard working with her to kick Cerberus out and keep Omega secure from a Cerberus counterattack, kind of like the Renegade path for Helena Blake's sidequest in ME1, but actually trusting her or entering into a romantic relationship with her? No way.

On my most recent Paragon run, I didn't even give her the datapad showing that the mercs were plotting against her. I figured that the mercs were already on the defensive after the losses they took trying to kill Garrus, that weaknesses in her intelligence network might not be a bad thing in the long run, and that she would conceivably have some people executed if she finds out about it.

There really isn't. And I don't like her as both. The other time I dealt with a criminal warlord who was trying to tame an organization I was able to give her a choice to either get out of crime entirely or die. I am able to do absolutely nothing to make Aria regret her choice of occupation and I can do nothing to remind her she lives and dies according to Shepard's mercy. Long story short: I want to f___ with Aria. Big time.

I think a lot of the hate threads popped up with this odd love of a Cerberus commander, what I fail to understand is why people think that said traitor would turn from Cerberus just because Shep asked. Better to side with the evil you know then the evil you don't in the end.

Edit:  Personally I like her, there is more to her then what you see I suspect.

There is a major difference. Have a look at ANY villain. We may hate that villain for he's a psychopathic murderer and wants to kill our hero. But we can't help but love the fact that he is SO evil and dastardly.

That's why we love characters like the Joker and Emperor Palpatine. These guys are just so delightfully bad though in reality, we'd HATE them if we were in-universe.

When we remove ourselves from the story and study characters objectively as viewers, we don't like characters because they are inconsistent, don't have appropiate drive, voice, there is something that the writers screwed up with. Typically, this is the case with like Liara where in-game, she's fine - she's great. But objectivally as a character she sucks because she's written as Mary Sue.

I don't hate her.

However it's easy to be turned off by her pretentious behavior.
