I'm sorry, but you seem to be one of those people who conflates "disagreing with my opinion" as being unreasonable or unwilling to talk.

You haven't refuted a thing anyone in the thread said. To wit:

1) increased difficulty is rewarded with increased XP, and to encourage players to grow their skills. Being able to complete gold is intented to be a DIFFICULT CHALLENGE, not a casual run. That is what bronze is for. The ugly fact is that if many players can endlessly farm gold games without difficulty, but some players can't even reliably extract on bronze, the issue lies in the skills of the player, not the game.

2) As pointed out by many players, challenges are OBVIOUSLY being completed on lower levels due to needing to farm hundreds of kills. It would be stupid to complete some of the challenges on gold or platinum due to the difficulties even at launch. Furthermore, since some of the challenges require non-optimal weapons like the Avenger, doing them at a lower level makes them more achievable.

3) who cares what level the achievments are done on? I'm sorry , if you complete the SMG challenge entirely in platinum do you get a diamond-studded GSMG with a Legion sticker on it or something? Suggesting that player challenge completion levels have any thing to do with difficult is akin to saying ME3 sucks because you can't complete the game at level 1 on Insanity easily.

4) Your statement : "Personally, I like playing Gold. The only reason I've been playing
mostly Silver recently is because that's what my Friends play. Because
for most of them, Gold is too hard. And they're not the only ones.
Loads of people on mic in public games say there's no point playing Gold
now as it's too hard."

Everyone in MY games talks about how bronze isn't even worth playing, and silver is for farming. Gold is intended to be highly challenging , and originally was for the HIGHEST skill levels. Platinum was added for the hyper-elite gamers. The reality is your 'friends' do not have the skills to compete and surivive in Gold, and instead of learning to play, whine it's too hard.

Hello Kitty Online is that way ---------------------->.

5) The entitlement argument: why is it everytime good players have a mode dedicated to them that provides increased rewards for their time investment and building their skills, someone who refuses to put in the time and effort acts offended by it? Logically your argument is built on insane troll logic: the game is too hard and Bioware has messed it up so that only elite players can win at gold, but gold was designed for elite players so that means that if everyone can't play it the game is too hard. Lol wut?

I don't want to deny you anything of the sort.
What I am saying is that if BioWare are going to keep making the game more difficult, they've got to expect fewer people will play the harder difficulty settings. For them to know be wanting to do something about that after they've spent months pushing the less elite gamers away from those setting is preposterous.

I think you're a bit misled on the whole "pushing the less elite gamers" as fairly massive power creep has occured. If the N7 Piranha existed at launch it would have been nerfed to the ground due to how absurdly overpowered it would have been. The game got tougher sure, but players have gotten much tougher as well.

As I already noted in my other post people aren't playing lower difficulties because of things being too hard, they're doing it because we figured out that you can grind challenge points significantly faster on the lower difficulties since you just annihilate everything. I had fully planned to finish out Cerberus and Reaper Mastery by soloing lower difficulties and farming Husks/Guardians. Not because I can't handle Gold but because it would take me forever since those units just don't show up that much on Gold.

My point is that after MONTHS of making Gold and Platinum harder and harder and therefore driving away more and more players from those difficulties (challenges or no challenges), BioWare have suddenly said "Hang on, fewer players are playing these difficulties, that's not what we wanted".

You might be seeing a dip in players playing Gold and Platinum over the last few weeks because of the Challenges but players have been slowly turning away from those difficulties for a lot longer than that.

Perhaps Bioware could come up with something below Bronze...like Tinfoil (I kid, but no really...)  We now have a Platinum difficulty to cater to all those crazy people with high tolerances for stress, so why can't we have Tinfoil, er whatever you want to call it.  We could also even out the credits better...that would be good.  I've been playing on Bronze to get my monster banner, and the chump change I get at the end...well...

Your logic is flawed.

More people move to higher difficulties when they get better equipment and characters. Taking a PPR wielding Destroyer into Silver isn't going to be challenging, so people move up difficulties because of challenge + credit reward.

You make it seem like Gold is much more difficult than it actually it, when in reality the good weapons and extra consumable space people will have obtained after all this time means people move up difficulties, rather than move down.

What's your damn problem?, they are not touching the low difficulties, they are just increasing the XP/Score multipliers for Gold and Platinum difficulties.

Stop whining and perhaps you will find time to improve.

Bioware says they are going to increase the xp/score for Gold/Plat, how is that in any way affecting the difficulty of the game? They are simply offering to offer more rewards for challenges for the more challenging difficulties? They didn't say they're making the game harder, they even in fact reduced the dragoons spawns which was one of the big contenders for making the game harder and simply offered to increase rewards.

So I don't know what this thread is even addressing in regards to the balance preview notes.

i play on bronze most of the times because i have a hard time finding a game in silver, or if i start a silver lobby it can be 20 minutes for the lobby to fill. Also if i start a solo silver sometimes i can not get past the 3rd round if i get a difficult escort, or a difficult hack i will be overwhelmed because i still am in a solo silver. So i set up a bronze lobby start the game and if necessary i can at least finish the bronze map solo if no one else joins so my time is wasted less.

As far as being a challange **** i really do not play for that as i figure that i enjoy playing the game so if i play as often as i can the challanges will come through natural participation so i NEVER stress it.

Okay, I see your point now, but the one-line teaser about why they're planning on increasing XP rewards for the harder difficulties specificially mentions completing challenges. So assuming that challenges have nothing to do with why people are playing less gold/plat or why BW is changing rewards strikes me as a pretty radical interpretation of the text.

Moving on to those of you who are more willing to talk ... :-)

You started off with a whiny, antagonistic thread that insulted the BSN at large, a significant number of regular posters and Bioware.  And you wonder why your thread degenerated and why you can't have a proper discussion.

Try starting off by being reasonable, it does wonders.  Hard to take you or your opinions seriously when you start that way.

On topic, the game is by and large easier today than it was at release.  There has been a difficulty spike post Retaliation, but the buffs to powers and weapons quite frankly exceed the increases in difficulty over time.

If Bioware just buffs a difficulty just because people use it to get challenges done, I am quitting from MP..

Honestly, their nerfing of characters because they are popular was one thing but now you want to buff difficulties because so many people play on them ? That's crap...

Didn't Bioware used to be all about CHOICES ?! Oh right, this is their artistic ingenuity...Buffing difficulties because people play on them is an ingeniously artistic move.

How do they know what all players are capable of ..Just because you have insane weapon loadouts & gear, doesn't mean you have the skill. & most of us these days play MP to just chill after work / after hard dark at school / after exam/ weekends.. Hence we play on lower difficulty..TO RELAX...Isn't relaxing & having fun part of gaming...?

Like yes, I can play Gold or Platinum & I do so but I usually play on silver because I want to chill ..& I only play on Gold or Platinum if one of my friends invite me to do so..

How can Bioware dictate what difficulty should a player be playing ?

They just want to increase the XP/Ponits for gold/Platinum, of course I don't mind.

To be honest, I really reduce my daily difficulty to complete chanllege, but this is nothing about XP/Points.

It has some certain reasons:

1. XP is meaningless for platnium, no matter how many XP bonus you give for platinum. We still can not play platnium game by very low level characters.

2. Reduce difficulty because there are some contruction issue for enemies in gold/plat...If you want to balance your enemy challenge processing. You have no choice to reduce your difficulty to silver for some certain enemies (e.g. Husks)

3. Weapon efficiency...Yes, of course you can play Eagle/Locust/Mantis in platnium, and you will finish the whole 11 waves as well if your teammates are realible. But you will get much less points than you play with a sutiable weapon, your teamates are killing too fast, there is no chance for you to earn enough damage points. So we play lower level or solo to make weapon challenge faster.
For this one, increase points maybe effected, but not too much. You still get limited points by your weapon efficiency.

4. Personal statment chaneged: I have maxed all my URs. So there is not too much credits tempotation from Platinum. I could focus more on my challenge. I got no loss when I reduce my difficity.

Anyway, increasing bonus is better than not. And nobody get loss from this.

Well not in that one sentence I didn't, no.  That was my first response.  :D

As for the rest of your points ...

I am **not** complaining that I find the game too hard.

OK?

I am **not** complaining that I find the game too hard.

What I am pointing out is that more and more other people *are* find the game is too hard.  And therefore fewer and fewer peopole are playing Gold and Platinum because of that.  As I have said elsewhere in my replies, while there might be a more obvious dip right now because of the recent challenges the trend is definitely a gradual decrease even without that.

BioWare have been pushing the less elite gamers away from Gold and Platinum for months now.
Yet suddenly they're concerned about falling numbers on those difficulties.

Those two facts together are ... well, I believe the idiom is "face/palm worthy".

Maybe it's just the recent Challenge-related dip that BioWare are concerned about and the gradual decline in Gold/Platinum numbers is something they're happy with anyway.  Maybe.  Perhaps the balance changes tomorrow will be "all kills on Gold and Platinum will provide double points for Challenges but still give the same amount of actual XP" and also "here is something else to make Gold and Platinum harder".  If those are the changes then it would show that BioWare do indeed want fewer people doing well at Gold and Platinum.  But then again, maybe those won't be the changes and the concern is over the gradual decrease more than the recent dip.

 Hello there.
I do not know on what difficulty you play on.
I my self am an averege player. I've been playing since late July, and I want to share my experience with you, and I am sure that it will be helpful, especially if better and more seasoned players than me contribute to my comment.
  • It's a cover based game. We all know that, but a lot of times a player can forget about it. So, cover, cover cover. Make it a habbit. Use cover even in objective waves like Drone escort and Hack. There is no reason to be exposed to enemy fire.
ATTENTION. Do not camp. Cover to replenish your shields. To assess the situation. To reload. To plot a route away from harm's way.
  • Do not stay at the same spot for more that 10-15 seconds. The enemy WILL flank you, especially on higher difficulties. So, be mobile. Go to places where you can see the enemy in front of you, and can easily watch the flanks too. Kill a couple of foes, then go.
  • Don't let the enemy get too close to where you're at and overrun you. You and the whole team should get away and find another place.
This has helped me A LOT since I started doing it. Because before that......
Ofcourse there is more than that, but by doing so, I can play on Gold and sometimes not get downed even once in a match. Sometimes.. :D

Do the above, and I assure you that the game WILL become easier.

They are talking about buffing the score that players receive for Gold/Plat.  Seriously.  Read, then post.  They are trying to encourage people to go back to the harder difficulties by adding more reward to them.  It's a carrot, not a stick.

I'm not entirely sure you're looking at this from the position of not being a good player.
Obviously I don't know you so I can't comment on your skill level but even just reading other people's responses to this thread can't you see that there are other players who think the game has gotten too hard?

If you don't think the game is too hard then great, you're obviously an above average player (possibly even better than "above average" *g*).  But I argue that most players aren't as good as you.

So yeah, the elite players should have skill levels suitable for them.  But then ... shouldn't all the other players, too?

The reason I have been playing a lot more Silver lately is for the stupid enemy challenges. It seems that the ratio of mook/boss is much better at Silver for the challenges. I had played almost exclusively Collector/Silver matches to get the Collector mastery, and I had the points almost dead even through all five enemy types - even Abominations. Then I got sick of it and started playing Gold. Now, I am done with the 3 Trooper points, almost done with Captain and Scion, getting close with Praetorian, and falling behind with Abominations. I wish I would have stuck with Silver.

No..I don't ...People have other games, other things to do ...ME3 MP is at best something you play to pass your time. There is not physical reward from the devs like an actual trophy or N7 hoodie for getting "Best of the Best Banner"

& Bronze allows players to chill..I mean no one actually plays SP anymore because of its near zero replayability ..So there is only MP & we would like to relax when playing..

I agree that the modes are harder, but who really wants to play a game that is a cakewalk to get through? Isn't the point of a team-based game to get through a challenge? I was starting to think ME3 was too dull before they introduced the Collectors and the myriad of balance changes. Getting through Golds had been ridiculously easy. Now that I can curse the magically speedy dragoons and the Prime combat drones that ACTUALLY WORK? I have a reason to play the game. Hell, I'm even entertained on silver sometimes. That's saying a lot.

I tend to agree with the people who are saying that Silver has become the choice of challenge fiends. I have a lot of friends who play Bronze and Silver just to get their waves on characters down. I'll play with them, but I enjoy the rush of a Gold/Platinum run far more than getting challenge points.

I doubt Bioware or EA is out to torture the casual gamer. They just want to keep interest in a game that has been on the market since the beginning of the year. They have to compete with AC3, Call of Duty and other new releases. People move on to new things when a game becomes too routine.

And really, like any other video game, the more you play, the better you get. If you're not into that...why are you gaming at all?

Honestly this just sounds like you're a bad player.

No matter which way you try to put it, by playing on Gold and Platinum you're getting better equipment, weapons and characters.

People don't drop to Silver with weapons that can dominate on Gold because Gold is hard, they drop to Silver for challenge points.

No offense, but I'm quite confident that Bioware's sample sizes on the truth of this are exponentially larger than yours, particularly given that you've said yourself you're mostly hearing the complaints about difficulty from people who are playing silver because they don't want to bother with gold. A dispute between one person's self-selecting sample and the entire database of global player activity isn't much of a dispute.

To offer my own anecdotal experience, which again due to sample size is as irrelevant as your own, I've had no more issue finding PUGs on gold recently than I ever have.
