How you plan on playing your first character...

I'll probably play my first character like I play all my characters, play as neutral and ineffective as possible and have as many companions as possible bug out as they get trapped between the two ends of their like/dislike or friend/rival meter.

A weird and snarky archer rogue with deadly aim but a heavy weakness for the ladies.

I don't think Bioware is going to let you Murder Knife anything that moves.
Me? I was thinking of only pulling the Murder Knife out on NPCs who annoy me. Otherwise, I'll do what I think is best for Thedas. I'll most likely play a neutral character my first time through who will reflect my own real personality. Minus killing annoying NPCs in cold blood of course...
Although, I do admit it's quite funny looking at some Murder Knife cinematics...is it wrong I just pick them to see the hilarious outcomes? I still think this is the best one: He bothered me and had it coming.

I'm going to be playing a loyal chantry warrior type that gradually grows to have a wider view of things. He'll have shades of the 40k Inquisitor, to be sure.

Be the usual "Gotta help everyone especially the underdogs!" sword-and-shield Warrior self.
Save the children and all that jazz, yet has no mercy for the psychos. So...um yeah.

World 1- Male Dual Wield Rogue, probably a middle of the road type as opposed to my Warden (City Elf DW Rogue) who was a genuinely agreeable guy and Hawke (Aggressive DW Rogue) who was the pretty grumpy sort. Will be romancing an elf like the guys before him (Zevran and Fenris). His background is open to interpretation, Elf-Blooded (Human with Elven parent) if possible.
World 2- Female Two Hand Warrior like the women before her (Human Noble 2H Warrior and Aggressive 2H Lady Hawke). Will probably romance the leading lady (Human Noble x Leliana, Hawke x Isabella). Probably have a noble background if possible to keep in line with the Cousland and Amell theme.
World 3- Male Mage like the men before him (Human Amell Mage and Male Mage Hawke). Definitely pro-mage and concerned with blood magic and all things dark and occultic (Warden did the Ritual, sacrificed Isolde, Hawke went with Anders). If there is an Amell background I'm so taking it just to keep it in the family.
World 4- Definitely continue the human man x elven woman thing. Warden was a Dalish elf archer rogue who fell for Alistair while Hawke was a human dual wielding rogue who romanced Merrill. Since I can't be a lady elf, I'll have a human man who romances the romanceable female elf, very likely an archer rogue.
World 5- Holy Templars, all hail the Chantry! Warden was a male Dwarven Templar Chantry Supporter after life as an Exile while Hawke was a female Diplomatic Warrior, Templar Supporter, and in a Chaste Marriage with Sebastian. If there is a Templar background and specialization this character will definitely be so, heroic and holy like the heroes before him. Self sacrificial if possible.
World 6- Whatever character I can dream up, no real theme (Male Dwarven Noble with no romance and Female Sarcastic Mage who straight'manced Fenris because he's awesome like that)
World 7- Same here, no real theme (Female Elven Mage who had tea with Zevran, Isabela AND Leliana at the Pearl and tried being Alistair's mistress and a Male Diplomatic Warrior-Hawke who made Isabella see the error of her ways...through the power of LOVE)
In short:
World 1- Dual Wield Male Rogue (romances the male elf romance, s/s)
World 2- Two Hand Female Warrior (romances either gender, noble background)
World 3- Male Mage (romances the evil/chaotic party member, Amell relation if possible)
World 4- Male Rogue (romances the female elf romance, o/s)
World 5- Male or Female Warrior (romances the religious party member and is a Chantry Templar)
World 6- Open
World 7- Open

First playthrough shall be a mage named after one of the Old Gods, following the stories of Dumat Surana and Zazikel Hawke. I just roleplay that one. What would I really do in this situation?
Second, goody-two-shoes. Do the nicest, not best, possible thing in any situation.
Third, unrepentant jerkass, perhaps with a morality pet, but completely ruthless and dedicated to a goal. Pity those who stand in his way.
Fourth, couldn't tell. I build the character their own personality for number four.

I have no idea yet.
Probably a 'good guy' first because I enjoy playing that first time through a game. But as far as 'character' goes I have no idea. It'll be informed by the character creator and the backgrounds available. And I'll move from there.
The benefit of this being the third in the series is that now I know the universe much better than I did in Origins. So even if the backgrounds are vague I know the nations, religions, and races and their politics well enough to just guess and make **** up to go along with the background.
Really looking forward to those backgrounds. Having a choice of where your character came from and shaping them around that.

I feel slightly less crazy now.
Edit: Forgot to answer the OPs question... A rogue for my first playthrough most likely. Snarky, with a touch of violent.

In my typical first PTs I am basically the bad ass knight in shining armor with ruby slippers.
Most likely a mage or a rogue - depends on my mood at the time or whatever wins the coin flip. (It also depends on combat mechanics AND animation for the class.)
On my second PT I'm still experimenting, but that is when all hell breaks loose and I turn into a **** with a two-handed sword.

During my first playthrough of any BioWare game I always make my protagonist pick choices that I myself would make if I was thrown into that situation, simply because I enjoy discovering what the outcome of my own actions would be and whether or not I would've made each given situation better, worse or completely ballsed the whole thing up.
As for what class/specialisations/background/etc I'd pick, I won't know until I play the game and look at the options available.

I'll probably blindly/randomly pick one of BioWare's default imports for past events, and try my best to avoid looking at the details, so I can get as 'blind' a playthrough as possible.
I'll pick mage or rogue first. Background I'm not sure what I'd want. I'd favor a drifter/loner/orphan/outlaw/apostate type of background. Pretty much which one has the least amount of family characters/notoriety in the PC's life. Personality/motives/choices I'll just do a 'if it were me' type of playthrough.

My Warden rogue was Neutral Good and pro-mage.
Hawke was a mage a weird one but close to True Neutral, pro mage, but Andrastian and strongly anti-Qunari.
I plan for my Inquisitor to be a rogue, but maybe a mage, and Chaotic Neutral, similar to Isabela in many ways but slightly more politically minded hoping for a Templar victory, again Andrastian, but not as xenophobic towards the Qunari as Hawke was.

I generally tend to always play the ultimate good guy in my first playthrough of a game, the guy who always tries to do the right thing, who is honest, level headed and fair minded. Don't think that will ever change so it should be true enough for DA3.

I'll do what I usually do. Play the first character based on my own values. Will be importing one of my non-self-based Hawkes to ensure all heroes don't have the same views, makes the world a stale place imho.

My first character is always the same. I judge games largely on how well they permit that character.
He's a mage. He has a dry wit, but he makes jokes solely for his own benefit. He does not care whether others enjoy or even recognise his humour, as they are irrelevant. He is indifferent to the welfare of others. He likes to gather as much information as possible before making decisions. He reacts very badly to being lied to, but has no difficulty lying to others. He completes quests because he wants to, not because others want him to. He's generally stoic, but has a flair for the dramatic. He enjoys performing for a crowd, but will do so only when it suits him.
