hi after just finishing my 1st complete playthrough 1 of the highlights for me was Leliana's song, most of you will know what that is, if you don't; after reaching a high approval with Leliana she sings a song in the party camp.

anyway it was a pleasent surprise and i for one loved the song, it even encouraged me to download the full game soundtrack(which i strongly recommend buying  if your into that sort of RPG/classical type music)

i was just wondering what everyone else thinks about this and the general soundtrack? i love leliana's song and think the game soundtrack as a whole is fantastic, it beats most film soundtracks.

I like the song and the soundtrack, I just thought the cutscene was horrible, I didn't buy for one second that Leliana was supposed to be singing that song.

I adore the soundtrack, especially the tracks played for the Dalish camp and the lake docks - but Leliana's song, seriously? God, I was cringing. I've never reached for the Esc button quite so fast..

but um, yes. great soundtrack. and you know what they say, 'each to their own'.

me either! The vocals just didn't fit with her voiceovers at all.

Ignoring the lip sync, which would be hard to accomplish, the cutscene isn't all that bad, where it pans to most of the party members present, and their reactions to the song itself.

I understand that, of course, I guess horrible is an exaggeration..
The shots of the other party members were great, although I would have liked to see Morrigan disapproving a bit more

Despite her rep as being the "Queen of all that is evil in Ferelden", I think it shows that she actually does have feelings, and that they can be reached, even if she attempts to shake them off.

oh i agree about the lipsync thing, it was obviously not her singing it and not at all convincing, but the song itself i thought was great and the way it showed all the characters(although i must admit my music tastes are probably alot different to alot of peoples so it perhaps wouldn't be to everyones liking)

it was a pleasent addition to the game, something i wouldn't have expected and yet another way that DAO sets itself apart from other RPG's, and with the soundtrack i can listen to it and all the other great music whenever i wish.

I liked the song, but only liked the cut-scene when it panned over to the other companions. I wish they had done more of that, because Leliana's facial expression and lip-sync were simply awful. I know it was a game limitation, but they should've taken that into account.

I know it would've been a lot of work because none other than Alistair is a given companion, so to include all possibilities would take a lot of condition scripts.

Sten's reaction for example was endearing, and who would have expected a reaction other than the one coming from Morrigan

i don't expect them to be able to lip sync, just get a singer that actually sounds a bit like the actor playing the character.

After reading so much about Leliana's song on here, I finally saw it for the first time yesterday. And it was, indeed, "cringeworthy".

When you look away from the screen, however, it's a good song. I like a lot of the other music in the game as well.

Synching computer generated character graphics to a song is still hard. For speech, it's a lot easier, especially since speech gives more freedom to resynch part of the speech instead of the CGI.
We've really come a loooong way since but there's still some track to cover to make it look "believable". Especially for non-prerendered cinematics (like in DA:O), since it would require a character mesh that's a lot more detailed then what's available for your every day computer. Top of the line home computers just *might* be able to do it nowadays, but gladly, most games aren't made exclusively for top-of the line computers, since it affects sales figures rather dramatically in a negative direction.

tbh although the lipsyncing wasn't great, its good to have something like it within the game. they could quite easily have focussed entirely on the other characters so you didn't see the poor lipsync and i wasn't really analysing her lips in time to the song, i was listening and watching the cutscene of the rest of the camp

so it gets a thumbs up from me, 1 of my favourite points in the game.

I was pleasantly surprised by that cutscene. It came up just as my boyfriend was telling me how cool it would be if, for once, a game actually showed a bard singing. And a minute later - there she was, singing!

It wasn't the only such moment with DA, which is why I love it.

But I have seen many, many people complaining about the song, and I can understand why. The whole scene has a number of problems; like - where's the music coming from? Couldn't have they made her play some instrument while singing (which would improve the cutscene dramatically: no pointless walking around or awkward gesturing)? Why is there so much echo in a wide open space (if you listen to the original arrangement, you'll see it sounds much better - there's some effect in the area that adds the echo). Why aren't the sounds of the fire, footsteps, etc. mixed in? And so forth.

The person actually singing this song is the same person who sings in the title and credits arrangements; while it's clearly not Leliana's voice-actor, the singer's voice is a clear, simple alt, with no special characteristics... not to say it was bland, but it could belong to almost any woman. So that part doesn't bother me.

The lip-sync would have been much better had the song contained some palatable words. It's mostly composed of long rolling vowels with only an occasional consonant... Given the song, there really was no way to achieve better lip-sync.

All in all, it's far from perfect, but I definitely prefer the game with it than I would without it.

I didn't think it really fit her, it obviously wasn't her voice actor doing the singing, but it was still somewhat better than her actual songs in-battle consisting of "AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!" or "RAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGH"

The cutscene visuals were great but the song itself was worst dub ive ever heard/seen... why didnt they just use Leliana's original VA? im pretty it woulve sounded alot better.

I've got to say it would have made more sense for her 'ballad' for the Warden to have had the treatment. As could then have had the musicians in the background playing along. The camp scene really should've just been her vocals.

Actually a thought just popped in my head that I'd love a Dev to confirm

Is "I Am The One" (song used in the credits) the 'Ballad' that is referenced in Leliana's epilogue? Out of the two songs I prefer that one, though both are very nice. I also lean more favourably to the 'Dark Fantasy' version of it, which is the one that plays during the actual credits rather than the 'clickable' credits from the main menu which is the 'High fantasy' version.

Oh, agreed. Double and triple agreed. It's simply horrible and doesn't fit Leliana in the slightest. Not the character and not her gender.
