Considering historically the "age of consent" was as young as 10-12 still, socially it's quite disturbing and Bioware would be signing a death wish to go along with it. The point is, is that while it would have been believable when people only lived to be 30-40 (even though in this universe people somehow miraculously live quite long.) and back then since you were on that kind of deadline it was excusable to engage in that activity when you were that young, now it isn't. As for your European argument, I dunno what country you're citing but Germany, France and England all have age of consent at 18 as well as US which has it as young as 16. (Though a stipulation with the 16 YO age of consent is that the partner needs to be 18 at most and no older.)

Check out the edit and the relevant page, Demonic Spoon.

Apparently it would be considered child pornography in international court. Even if they're "non-minor teenages made to look younger", if you can believe that.

EDIT: Ok, yeah, saw the link you posted. Interesting. Well, obviously this is a touchy subject and clearly no one definitive law has been made on "simulated" child pornography. Regardless, one thing we can agree on is that Bioware would never, ever, go anywhere near this kind of content. Ever. Not in a million years, ever. Not with the fury of 400 billion Carl Sagans would they ever condsider remotely going anywhere near it.

No, they don't. As has been said multiple times, in most places the age of consent is 16.

Regardless, there would be nothing illegal about it, at least in the US. It just doesn't make sense in the context of the story for companions to be age 16.

So you're saying that the depiction of underage relationships and sex scenes involving minors would be fine?

I'm not sure of exact US legislature, but I doubt that would go over too well in the media - even if Bioware were foolish enough to do it.  After a quick browse over the exact term "child pornography", I'm not sure it's correct in this case. We're talking about consensual sex between a minor and an adult, which I know is still not kosher, but I don't think it would actually be considered "child porn".

Still, it’s not OK. Bioware would be publicly nailed to a cross.

Indeed.
No matter if it's virtual, it would be considered child porn in Belgium, they have a very specific law there about this kind of thing between virtual characters.
In the USA, it'd probably result in another big freedom of speech lawsuit, and I have my doubts about this kind of thing ending up in favor of the developer.
Of some other countries, I *know* they were looking into this when the Second Life thing was going on, so don't hold your breath. I know that Linden Labs was not looking forward to endless lawsuits, so that's why they restricted the freedom of child avatars, even if only mature people could legally make such avatars.

Soooo... Ever heard of Chris Hanson or Dateline?

It isn't Hanson...lol It is Hansen...and he is doing "To Catch and ID Thief" right now....haven't seen new episodes of "To Catch A Predator" though that was more fun to watch.

This debate is pointless since EA/BioWare isn't going to create a game that includes sex with "underage" characters for reasons already mentioned frequently above.

End of line for this discussion.
