... Do any of us know if the devs are aiming for PC specs of mid-high PC's today or are we all going to have to own those SLI setups to play on PC/ Own a next gen console?

Well I'm quite sure since Xbox will be HD, pc will fall somewhere under mid-quality.AAA titles like Dragon age are developed with their console life lines in mind, and to all the rest, ports and scraps.Best to leave the old school pc relic behind and join the new school with a console. In 10 years the only use the pc will have is online mmos (if that).

Sorry wut? Xbox is HD currently, are you talking about the 360 or the next one?

Actually, I disagree with Emzamination. While it is true that consoles are currently the main target of game development, the pendulum is quickly swinging back to the PCs. After market resales, trade-ins, and rentals are taking an ever bigger chunk out of the financial bonus of developing toward a console market. With online DRM schemes quickly reducing the loss revenue to piracy on PCs, the PCs are again gaining ground and you will start to see games marketed more for PCs once again. The "next gen" consoles will likely be as expensive as a PC you can build yourself anyway.

That said, DA3 is still going to be on the current gen consoles, so even a 5 or 6 year old PC is still going to run it smoothly.

The 8 of course, which will display 1080p w/o lag or over heating. =]

No. A pithy answer.

Edit: Also SLI or crossfire will not be a requirement for pc games when consoles enter the next gen era. Sometimes duel gpu(s) can give you worse performance in some games - it depends honestly.

The devkits for PS4 are out and according to the specs it's using an AMD APU setup, meaning any mid-high end pc today would be a fair bit more powerful.

Even if it is for next gen consoles, I wouldn't worry.

No, nobody knows. The game is (most probably) over a year away from release. Spec requirements can and will change.

That said, there's no way DA3 will require a super-PC to play.

SLI/Crossfire never have been a requirement, and likely never will be. That kind of setup is fine for a PC enthusiast or power gamer; most people will never need or want it.

What's that based on? Seems unlikely as a console much above £250-300 would do some damage to sales...

lolwut.

DRM isn't blocking piracy. At all. It's blocking gamers like myself from buying games on PC who don't want draconian publisher overwatch on our computers.

Edit: I just googled "assassin's creed 3 on PC torrent"

I found a number of sites with legitimate cracks by well-known hacking teams (or at least one) with comments saying its working.

I'm having to wait five more days for this game, and hackers and torrent users are already playing it--have been since October 24, by the looks of one site.

Don't tell me it helps. It hinders PC sales.

I do agree though that PC is rising.

But really, I don't think we can say either is going to "dominate." It's always going to be this way: people buying consoles because they're a little bit cheaper and don't require upgrades, and some others buying PCs.

It's too early to worry about the system requirements for DA3. I'm not sure if the developers themselves could answer the question at this time. That said, it's safe to assume the game is being developed for this generation of consoles; therefore, I think the requirements will be very similar to those of DA2.

A little cheaper, but I bought a PC last spring for about $650 which I still say will be able to outperform the next gen Xbox and PS4, but by the time they are released it will likely be possible to build an equivalent PC for much less. As for upgrades, as long as your PC is ahead of current gen consoles, not very many games are going to have the requirements to seriously tax your PC.

I thought of that, bo, and I said a little cheaper because some games WILL. And, with PCs, you can fall into the danger of old, incompatable components.

For instance, in preperation for AC3 I need to upgrade my RAM. However, I'm still using DDR2. And a Core 2 Duo chipset, whatever that would be. I'll have to buy a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM just to play the game properly.

So, you do have occasions like that. But they're very rare.

Yeah, I sorta have that problem too, since my MBO isn't compatible with 4th gen Intel core chips, and my 2nd gen Intel core chip isn't compatible with PCI Express 3.0 graphics cards, but I figure that it should still be powerful enough to outlast the next generation of consoles, and if not, I can upgrade to a 3rd gen intel core chip or add a second PCI Express 2 graphics card. Luckily, I chose a relatively flexible MBO.

St Elmo, and others, just like EVERY OTHER REQUEST FOR INFORMATION, we are not yet talking about Dragon Age Inquisition and likely won't be until sometime in the spring of next year.

I know this won't stop people from asking their questions "what hardware, which characters, what story, etc" will be asked, but we will NOT be answering these type questions until spring of next year.

PCIE 3.0 CARDS ARE BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE WITH 2.0 AND THERE'S ALMOST NO PERFORMANCE GAIN OUTSIDE OF 3-4 WAY GPU SETUPS.

While I appreciate the info, the over-abundance of caps lock seems very condescending. Particularly to those who fall under the category of 'others', which is pretty much anyone who, in their enthusiasm, would like to know more about Bioware's next game without realising that there is an intolerance for such questions on this forum.

I don't feel so, I think they're getting a lot of requests, and have been for quite a while--when we have almost no official information.

I just feel that a pre-set reply would be more suited, rather than a... less professional... usage of caps lock. To some, caps lock indicates aggression.

Not always.

He used caps lock when he meant to use italics.

It's possible to do italics here, but it's a bit faster to just do caps and I do it sometimes myself.

Well, we all have our opinions

Italics could be better suited, but even then, it might give the impression that Priestly is fed up... which I think is quite possibly the case! However, when dealing with fans, why risk putting them off with a post that effectively says 'don't ask about this game' in a manner that indicates aggression or simply being fed-up with it all?

Anyway, I should go :P before I risk getting myself into trouble!

My understanding is that the next gen console hardware is based on 64-bit PC architecture. Hopefully this will result in next gen titles being less reliant on powerful GPUs and more optimized for modern PCs with multicore processors.

If DA3 required a super-PC it'd cause "next-gen" consoles to explode.
