Official-official, unfortunately. BioWare has been pretty tight-lipped concerning info about Inquisition, but the human protagonist is one nugget of info they've thrown us. That's pretty much why I started this forum.

Could I get a source link? Twitter/blog/forum comment etc...so I have some context, please?
Here is a forum, started by Allan Schumacher, an employee of BioWare, on the subject.

Are you sure that link is right? All I get is some dvdactive 'exlusivity claim', presumably intending 'hot-linking baaad'.

I don't see any reason they wouldn't let you be a human/human half-breed.

Perhaps but what exactly makes elves or dwarves any less boring? Is it really the race that makes a character interesting?

I must have missed something. Alistair's half-elven?
It's a theory based on the books. Maric had a kid with an elf.
Sounds like a filmsy theory.
Actually, it's implied very strongly. The fact that the elf in question was a Grey Warden who was immune to the Taint and went on to become the Grand Enchanter who is currently leading the revolt against the Chantry makes it kind of a big deal.

It's not that they're not letting anyone play as other races, as if they put down a shiny new toys in front of you and then only left you with one. The DA3 protagonist is going to be human because it's in interest for what they would like to do with DA3. I wish people would stop treating the lack of racial options as something that's being taken away maliciously.

Let's be honest here, the whole 'it has to be human' thing is most likely bunk, especially given they threw out the same excuse for DA2 where Hawke's personal content was of little or no relevance to the actual over arching plot. Bioware is cutting out race choices, not 'for the story' but because it takes effort, it has a cost and they think it's one of the easier things to get away with cutting.
Race choices were in DAO, that established a certain expectation, they weren't in DA2 and aren't going to be in DA3, so it's pretty normal for people to feel like it's being taken away from them. Especially since sequels generally expand on content not remove it.
I don't think they're doing it for malicious reasons, they're just cost-cutting and homed in on this as one of the easiest things to drop.
