Will DA3 allow for modding as well?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but it adds so much to the game when you are able to mod it. I really hope Bioware continues to allow for this in the DA series.

It hasn't been addressed by Bioware, and I imagine they're unlikely to address it anytime soon.  After all, they're not talking all that much about DA3 details, and if we look back to DA2 they never really said one way or the other if they'd support DA2 modding until well after its release.

That DA3 is on Frostbite 2 is probably a complicating factor.  I doubt it's up to Bioware to decide such a thing by themselves.  What does DICE (makes of Frostbite 2) say about modding?

http://planetbattlef...y.php?id=165427

That's a very political answer there that seems to translate to "Probably not, but we're not going to rule it out either as we know people want it.  Still don't invest too much hope in it happening as there's a very real chance that we never will release tools."

Me?  I think it'd be really cool if they had modding in DA3.

I'm guessing no. Those utterly ridiculous weapon&gear DLCs wouldn't sell quite as well if people were free to design em by themselves.

Modding does not require a toolset.  But I am not sure what Frostbite will allow and what it won't.

False.

Modding keeps the game active longer, which means a larger customer base for DLC, which means DLC sells better.

DLC has never been in conflict with the support for modding or the presence of mods.

I agree! I mod like crazy and I still have purchased every Dragon Age: Origins DLC. The mods add a lot of replayability that only enhance the game without really taking away from whats already there.

I understand that the engine may not allow for that but it would be a real shame seeing as how much mods enhanced my previous DA experiences.

Mods are awesome.
I love toolsets more than the vanilla games, lol.

And didn't one of the devs say they were working on a toolset, just that it wouldn't be a day-1 feature?
So we know modding will definitely be possible, just not right off the bat.

I'd die from happiness if they released a toolset, the time is not important*grabby hands*.[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/w00t.png[/smilie]

Here, have some squee fodder:

But I do remember another dev saying it wouldn't be a day-1 feature.

He is very likely referring to internal tools, not a for-release toolset for modders.

I'd put the chances of his referring to the latter as near zero.

Yeah, was just thinking about this. Since DA3 is likely to be tied to Origin and require always online and modding will likely risk getting banned because of multiplayer.

I don't know. It just worries me. Modding is what Dragon Age: Origins have the lifespan it had. In fact, I'm still playing it today and there are still new mods that are made for it now and then. My last version of Origins had over 100+ mods installed and played infinitely better than the original version.

I hope DA3 allows modding, but I fear, it will not.

I am 80-90% certain won't release a player toolset (I would be happy if they did though). There will however be modding even without it as tends to always be the case, but with no toolset the amount of modding will be vastly more limited. Hopefully they will take note from CDPR's and Bethesda's titles where they have release toolsets yet did not really have much if any negative impact on DLC's but even if they did I am certain won't be a day one release even if they did produce a player toolset.

Modding adds a lot of value to a game. Just check out Skyrim, its still very successful mainly because of modding. It keeps people buying an 1 year old game.

Yup, frostbite 2 has been described by modders as "unmoddable". It's an incredibly complicated engine. Also, DICE (it's developer) realy frowns on making alterations to it.

What's wrong with cheating? I bought the game I can cheat if I want to.
Take starcraft 2. I hate the game, but I love the story. So I use cheats to sweep through the tedium of repeated base building and zerg rushing, going straight to the juicy parts of story development.

It's not the same. BF is mainly a MP game. Any mod in such a game is potentialy cheating. They made a graphic mod for it, and it lead to bans.

I am not a fan of modding, mainly because I can't mod things myself due to being a console player.

That said, I have no objection to it. Sometimes I get the feeling that games are more popular when they have mod capabilities in them, especially for the PC market.

You have NO IDEA what the hell you are talking about!

This is just a small example of the work modders have done and to have you see its all about cheating is moronic.

You obviously have NO IDEA what modding is and I suggest you don't discuss something you are ignorant about.

That said> I dont expect modding for the next game

Most mods in fact enhance the game - correct minor bugs (that devs never seem to fix), tweeks to improve gameplay (but not change the game mechanics) and even restore axed content...
Not too mention they are always voluntary.

Its really amazing how much modders can contribute to a game - both enriching the game  and extending its 'shelf' life.

There's no way. EA won't allow DICE to distribute their toolset because they think it would cut into their DLC sales - when in fact Skyrim proves just the opposite.
