So, how many of you are role-playing in multiplayer weapon/character-wise?

I've been wondering - I guess many of the MP players got into it the way I did - through multiple SP trilogy playthroughs.

MP is wild fun, unaffected by SP storytelling shortcomings, but the thinking of an RPG gamer like me (who adores games made by Black Isle and BioWare older games) didn't change; I still name my characters and choose weapons based on their backstory quite often.

For example, I enjoy using GPS on my Quarians, because I consider Geth weaponry partly Quarian (by transition).

Krogan weapons are (luckily) synergizing quite well with Krogan way of smashing things. The same can't be said with the same strength about Batarian/Kishock combination, but I use it on the Sentinel quite often. I'm a little bit offended by the fact that the Batarian Vanguard holds a Piranha (rather than the Raider) on character selection screen, but the Bataguard is a disguised human after all.

What about you? Do you ever sacrificea part of your damage output and have some Turian Phaeston/Krysae matches, even if it would mean changing that Condor/Collector/Platinum to Giant/Reaper/Gold? Or is it just for the filthy credits? Or maybe something in between, for example you aren't crazy enough to roll with a Gengineer with GPSMG or Krysae Turian Sentinel, but GI/Javelin all day, every day?

Well, GI Javelin is... Hehe!

Anyway, I don't usually take RP into account when choosing the loadout, but I do roleplay sometimes on the microphone. Especially if I'm using Quarians, Geth or, obviously, Krogan. I guess some people are annoyed by this, so I tend to only do that in PUG games :D

Anyway, I'd love to have a RPG match. Like, a match with a background, where characters have a bit of story, they're there for a reason, and they speak RPG-wise on the mic. Anyone up for that? :o

I usually make up my own RP thing so I can equip my characters with the Claymore :)

In my group we do sometimes themed matches. We choose a race, a location and may even limit the weapons to use. So far we had:

All four different Quarian Characters on Hydra/Geth/Gold: Was actually the first we did (I think) we did not limit weapons-use because it would have been a bit booring since there are only two quarian weapons. However we all dressed up our quarians red and crushed some Geth. This round will also be rememberd as the rise of the "Kal'Reegar Memorial Missle Launcher"

Other match was the four different Asari Characters on Goddess/Gold/Reaper. Again no restrictions in weapons, all dressed up in black and red. The match was also very memorable, because I wasn't in the game of one of my friends. He just saw enemys randomly dying or shooting where noone was. From that day on my Asari Vanguard is known as "Asari Ghost Vanguard".

We also did a match with the four Turian Characters on Condor/Gold/Reapers. Forgot to set the same colorscheme, however still a lot of fun. Did also some weapon restrictions (Elkoss Combine Weapons where allowed, as well as Raptor, Krysae and ofc Phaeston).

Last we did was any Standard Humans on London/Gold/Reapers. All dressing in Alliance Blue and sporting human weapons. Was also quite a lot of fun.

I would try but I just dive right in the MP, though it would be nice to try it at some point.

I'd die before I have my Krogans or Batarians carry an Acolyte. Only Graals and Harpoons for them.

EDIT: Also, only Disciples for my Justicar.

Those kinds of matches are awesome, I still remember that operation where we had to be one kind of alien race, that was a good one. :o

As for theming...sure, acolytes and disciples for Asari veryoften, Geth weapons for Geth, Krogan weapons for Krogans, phaeston for my Turian sentinel...and that's about it. :?

I do as well. I color my armor to match the weapon I feel is appropriate for that race/class but not necessarily the best (otherwise I'd use my Harrier X every time I wanted an assault rifle). I also never play vorcha and batarrians as I don't like the races in single player. I want to feel like a hero saving the galaxy even in coop and there is *nothing* redeeming about playing vorcha or batarrians IMO.

Not quite the same, but I've been doing a lot more themed duos of late, which is quite a bit of fun. Two Volus adepts crash land on their way to support the Turian front lines, and have to hold off an attack while waiting for evac. That sort of thing.

This is kind of how I am, I don't have to have race specific weapons, but I do avoid certain weapons on certain races that just don't feel right.

Sometimes I stick the Phaeston and Krysae on the Turian Soldier just for the heck of it, if that's what you mean...

But more often I'm just trying to survive. So when I go into a platinum game, I bring a Hurricane and an Acolyte, not an underpowered weapon.

I've always tried to base my loadouts according to character class (basically trying to mimic the squadmate loadouts in ME2).

Adepts - Pistol + SMG
Soldiers - AR + Shotgun
Sentinels - AR + SR
Engineers - Shotgun + Pistol
Infiltrators - SR + SMG
Vanguards - Shotgun + SMG

It's the only way I can play. Batarian? Bring a Raider and/or Kishock. Turian will always have a Phaeston, Ex-Cerberus will only use a Talon, Eviscerator or Harrier and so on.

I always make up a little story about each characters' back story when I promote & name them. I hesitate to give my Krogan the Phaeston, or my Quarians Geth weaponry. Batarians usually wield the Kishock, etc. That's usually as far as it goes, though...

Strikers, Graals, Claymores for Krogan.

Batarians carry AT-Raiders and Kishock

EDIT: Also, only Disciples for my Justicar.

Acoylyte and Disciple is my standard Asari loadout, although I will sometimes swap an SMG for the disciple on the Asari Commando.

Geth only carry Geth weapons.

I'm a bit more flexible with Humans, Drell, and Quarians.  I rarely play with Turians.

I indulge in this a bit, yeah :) Phaeston's my go-to AR for turian characters (and several non-turians), my geth engineer always carries his GPR, and my human soldier (who I spec to look like a defected Cerberus unit) is very partial to his harrier (and the Eagle pistol given to him by the Alliance officer he surrendered himself to just before the invasion necessitated bringing in every willing gun to the fight). Also my infiltrators often pack the locust because I still think of it as "that famous assassination SMG." I think it'd be fun to play themed matches with other RP enthusiasts :)
