On a serious note I can't see the benefit of turning a forum into its own game where you get to level your rank.

The idea is probably to extend a game's life-cycle by giving you points/perks for playing while, at the same time, keeping tabs on the games you play, sort of a "friendly" DRM service. At least that's the way I see it.

They've had that on Bethesda forums for a while (although based on number of posts) and it doesn't add anything to the forum. Though I'm guessing it will be optional on here which is fair enough.

Neither can I. I guess it'll only result in the users spamming threads so as to improve their "cool" rank.

Oh, I missed this. Only so much one can keep track of with a smartphone when on a 3 conintent work trip.

Post counters and ranks have been doing that for forums for a long time.

I have been using Xfire for almost 8 years now so the concept is not new for me.

I never said it was a very original idea, but they seem to be aiming for merging of all social media accounts with your GamrRank profile.

Honestly?

Ok, so recently Ray & Greg retired. We knew this would cause some people to think that BioWare was going to collapse, die, end whatever you want to call it. Initially we were not planning on discussing DA3 until next year, but to combat the rumors that we'd die off without Ray & Greg, we announced officially that DA3 was in the works (along with a new Mass Effect title and a new IP in development).

Since we announced it, we figured some fans would want to discuss it, so we opened a DA3 forum. We could have just let people talk in DA2 forums, but it is a different game, so we opened this to let you talk about DA3.

Simple really.

And plausible, which is the most important characteristic of any public statement.

When you opened the DA3 forum, I expected it meant you were going to release new info soon.  But then you said you weren't doing that.  So then I thought it was an attempt to separate DA3 discussion from DA2 complaints, to avoid tarnishing DA3's buzz with DA2's poor reception.  But that's not how the DA3 forum has been moderated, so that likely wasn't your motive, either.

This public statement is plausible.

I was not trying to single you out but sort of agreing this idea has been common for a long time and that BIoWare has been consolidating the various medias.
Rambling. I am at the wrong end of my biological clock.

*cough*

But yeah, GamrRank. Seriously, the BSN can't even get my character profiles uploaded and now there's this external thing without an "e" which gives me more crap on people's profiles. That's going to be great.

I don't think you can yet. I just signed up and I didn't see an option to link to BSN. Chris did say "soon". I'm assuming it's not ready yet for BSN integration.

I see it now. It's under settings --> Bioware Social Network.

You just link your BSN account to your Gamerank account. You need to create a Gamerank account first.

That's a bit silly. I don't have XBox Live, PS Live, or XBit, and I'm not sure what they're doing to get from my Steam thingie.

How am I supposed to get my gamerank for my awesome forum posts?

Edit: Oooh. Okayy.

Under what settings. All I have on gameranker is PLAY, SAY, and RESPECT. There is no settings tab.

I am not a social network person and pretty much gave up on everything else the BSN had to offer years ago.

There was a lot of greatness I think this place could of had... now I just use the forums for hte most part.

Would a Jade Empire reboot be considered a new IP?

*crosses fingers* I've been hoping for a new IP for some time. Both DA and ME are great, but I love to see how BW works with new settings.

I could be wrong but I believe what bob_20000 meant was, why post this in the DA3 forums? My answer is that it's probably posted everywhere for people to see.
Like I said, could be wrong though.

That's actually EXACTLY what I meant. And I'm pretty sure that's the answer. So yeah.

I would love this but I don't think that's what it means. New IP usually means a new franchise...

I'm guessing the main ME team is working on the new IP since they handed it to Montreal to deal with now...

I'd like to see a modern RPG. Possibly an espionage RPG similar to Alpha Protocol.  Bioware has the fantasy and sci-fi setting covered, now it's time to do something different in a modern setting...<3

Yeah It's been what 3 years?  DAA still hasn't shown up in my profile, along with like 10 of my chars.
But, Woo! New IP.  First I've heard of it.  I'm hoping Steampunk.
