I honestly don't understand what you are trying to say - do you need the peer validation? Are you afraid of enjoying games that don't win awards?

For the record, this is a real RPG.

I just wish that Bioware would actually return.

They never left that mold, the only thing changed is internal mechanics vs overall feel.

ME3 is an RPG. Get over it. You make choices, and even if they don't partially matter, it still is a choice.

By the same logic, you could argue that Blackops 2 is an RPG. Maybe we should have a slightly more strict definition for RPGs that does not automatically include every game ever?

But does Black Ops 2 allow you to roleplay? No. It's fully automated, while Mass Effect lets you make your avatar, the auto dialogue is bad, but it doesn't truly stop roleplay. Next time, read the whole deal. Don't read the part you want to read.

And if you want to "Roleplay" do it in reality...or in bed...hurrhurrhurr

It's not an RPG, it's an Action RPG. Big difference. Third person shooter with little rpg elements.  But with the auto dialogues me3 became more like an interactive movie sadly. Press A (paragon) or B (renegade) to continue. Can't even lol to that, it's so sad.

So what is a pure RPG? A game with no action? Does that mean DA:O and DA2 are both action RPGs too with TBC? Rofl. ME3 is pretty much an interactive movie, but still. It is an RPG. The game revolves around that.

Award wise yes, but there were genuine amazing and innovative JRPGs (Operation Rainfall).

Check them out, Noaw!

If Diablo-like games are RPGs, then ME3 is definitely one too. Much more so, actually.

What?  Whatever mold they have now is the wrong direction.  I will admit they still have some good ideas but not as many as they used to come up with.  Name a game company that decided to change their ending with a dlc when it shouldn't have had issues when it first came out?

Congratulations but if they had not cut the exploration, conversations, romances and had had a good ending then it would be game of the year....

Just got the new Game Informer and they just awarded Mass Effect 3 with Best Role Playing Downloadable Content along with the Editor's Pick 2012 Game Of The Year award. So technically... Mass Effect 3 just won a Game Of The Year award!

Wohooooooo! Congratulations, Bioware! :D<3

It's a good game despite its flaws (many of which that are hyperbolized on BSN anyways).

I tend not take VGAs too seriously though.

IMO RPG means you explore the game world, interact with various NPCs, get quests and choose your adventure. ME3 is too linear for a pure RPG, but it defintely can be partially considered as RPG but still a very badly made one. It should not be nominated as rpg of the year. even Borderlands 2 did much better on RPG than ME3.

Diablo and its clones are all badly made RPGs, but ME3 was not better than them.

hehe Diablo was actually intended to become an RPG, but was badly rushed. Its considered an Action-RPG. so yeah. it was fun for a while, but ME is supposed to craft a story with the help of the player. Enforcing linearity for most of the game is unfortunate.

Too bad there isn't a new elderscrolls for this year, they should have nominated skyrims: dragonborn dlc as best rpg of the year, but then the rest of the games would look bad.

I know that I will be in the minority on this forum for this, and I hope people can respect my thoughts: I am glad that ME3 won for Best RPG. To me, ME3 was the most enjoyable because my Shepards FINALLY felt like emotionally driven Shepards. The story was immersive, deep and (beyond the ending) so, so, so satisfying. Congratulations Bioware. I look forward to the next projects that are coming down the pipelines.

They all those look hack and slash adventure games to me, except ME3, so no brainer there.

Someone asked what RPG's should have been picked instead, and you know that is a tough one, its been awhile since any decent ones have been released, good for my pocket book though :). I am sure there have been indie titles released that I just haven't heard about, I avoided the walking dead as I've played too many zombie games recently, but I might pick that up.

Mostly i've been playing modded older games and haven't needed to update my hardware :), it has been great. Planetside 2 wasn't good enough to get me to update, the only thing I've looked at that's made me think I'll update for it it - is the old wingcommander developer getting back in business!!

https://www.robertss...m/star-citizen/

Raising 7 million as an indie developer! So yes I will be upgrading for that but that's a year away maybe so *shrug*

Don't ignore The Walking Dead just because it involves zombies. Its NOT a zombie game.

I agree that the zombie genre is overdone to death and I cannot wait for everyone besides me to say, "You know, zombies are getting kinda old. Lets do something else."

BUT-

The Walking Dead is about the answer to the question, "What would humans do if they were placed into the absolute worst possible situation with no hope whatsoever?"

Zombies are just the thing that drives the point forward. In reality they don't matter as much as people think.

I highly recommend getting the game- then people might understand why it won Game of The Year over everything else. I still start to shed tears when I play the game.

Because the VGAs are 100% credible right? And surely it's not difficult to be the best of crap.

Is this a serious comment or a bad attempt at trolling?

This is a forum, expect people to express opinions in this medium, and perhaps not resort to name calling when they do?
