Keep in mind I liked both games a lot.

They are just not game of the year material, or RPG of the year material for that matter in the years they came out, which went to Mass Effect 2 I believe.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 were good but always less RPG and more action/shooter/adventure or whatever and BioWare has always been too bussy at trying to fool players into thinking they had choices rather than creating genuine game-altering choices......if that's the cost of nice graphics and a few less bugs then no thanks. I rather appreciate a well told story with actual choices.

No clue about how good AC3 will be, I will be playing next week. But for the first time in years I have actually played more than one of the nominated titles. So far I would pick ME3 over Dishonored.
Funnily enough the MP of ME3 may actually be the tipping point, I enjoyed it way more than I expected. And I never had big problems with the ending... So I don't feel bad voting for it.

And I would have liked to have Meer as best male performance, I think in ME3 he was a bit better than Hale, especially in the more emotional scenes. She was a bit better at delivering punchlines but overall Meer stepped it up alot and actually surpassed her.

Every year I have to wonder. Why do they call it 'human female'? Is there some other species in the running?

I'm still amazed Mark Meer is shafted for Nolan North again, who voiced a guy NO ONE HAS HEARD OF because he came from a ****ty game.

But this why the VGA's are crap. In the end Handsome Jack will win because people find him funny.

I found him the most annoying of all.

well it seems like the votes will go to the game who failed not as hard as the others on the list ... sad times for old school gamers.

Are you guys all really that cynical? Considering the game of the year list, its actually a pretty good year. Although the lack of Xenoblade Chronicles on that list disturbs me...

i am from germany and you expect me not to be cynical?

While I agree its horrible Mark Meer isn't being considered, Spec Ops is far from a bad game.  Despite all appearences, it is most definitely not just another military shooter.  And Nolan North did do a fantastic job at voice the character's changing persona over the course of the game.

Best Wii/Wii U game, ZombieU. That game isn't even out!
Best Graphics, Halo 4. A console game should NEVER be nominated for best graphics. (and Graphics =/= Art Style/Presentation)

Anyway, back to Mass Effect 3.
GotY, no.
Best RPG, hell no.
Female VA, hell yes.
DLC, Leviathan is the only one DLC I played this year so far. Can't comment.

The VGA's are all crap anyway, most nominations make no sense, and it's all one big advertisement show. Why people continue to watch them is beyond me.

im sorry but i disagree, graphics does not mean how realistic it looks, it is how good it looks for instance look at borderlands 2 that is by no means realistic yet it looks excellent, worthy of an entry IMO.

and frankly Halo 4 has drop dead gorgeous graphics, i mistook the the cutscenes more than once for live action, and the in-game stuff you could honestly mistake it for PS3 graphics if you didnt know better.

yeah i know these dont defeat PC graphics but the point is how good it looks =/= how realistic/detailed it looks.

I don't know. I played through some of it and was not impressed at all by Spec Ops. To each their own I guess.

Indeed. Graphics does NOT equal # of pixels per square inch....there's nothig to nominate anything there since those can straight be counted. Aside from that screw Halo 4 and all shooter/multiplayer centric games.....they count as nothing more than garbage to me....the only reason I might want one is for the satisfaction of burning it.

Then what 5 games would you pick instead?

Best DLC: Dawnguard for Skyrim or maybe MVM for TF2 if that counts as DLC
Best character: Literally anyone other than Shepard, e.g. Grey Mann
Best RPG: An actual RPG

Or how about not giving out an award if there's no worthy candidate?

honestly, i would give the award to halo 4 simply because it looks amazing, it was the first thing that hit me about it when i played, then there was its story which puts bioware to shame and the multiplayer reminded me why the series had defined xbox.

i would advise people to never underestimate halo, on the outside you may think its another generic shooter, but give it a chance, look under the hood and you will find a universe which would make starwars nervous.

These people like AC3 way too much. I thought it was dull.

Anyways, I agree that ME3 doesn't deserve GOTY or RPG. I don't even see how it could be nominated for RPG given that they took away the ability to roleplay Shep.

Jennifer Hale deserves to win hands down but it will probably be the Halo chick because its Halo.

Also, why did they have the blonde Shep for FemShep? WTH?

The **** does that mean, an actual RPG?

That is so blanket in its hatred it even throws me for a loop on how to criticize you.

Sigh, it is quite obvious neither of you understand what I'm saying.

If there would be a presentation category, then Halo 4 can get nominated and take the award any day of the week IMO.

But there isn't. This isn't about presentation, this is about graphics. 1080p, 60+ fps, Anti-Aliasing, DOF, AO, far render distances, beautiful and dynamic skyboxes, etc. That's what's important here, and consoles don't have those.

Graphics has more to do with a combination of both technological achievement, and an amazing looking game. Sure it's a technological achievement that Halo4 can run on an Xbox, but that's besides the point (especially given the massive slowdowns during explosions in both MP and SP.)

It's why games like Super Meat Boy for instance would never win in a Graphics contest, but take the prize home in Presentation. Being pretty isn't enough to win in Graphics.

I never found Handsome Jack funny. I think he only made me laugh once throughout his diatrides and that was when he did something really deplorable to someone (sorry for the vagueness) and that was that.

Honestly, I get why people like him, but he takes out all of the humor of Borderlands 2 and borderlines smug for the sake of smugness to me, versus clever writing and fitting in with the black humor that Borderlands 2 is known for. Hell, the best written character is an insane 12 year old girl, and she is only in it for a short amount of time!

no i understand exactly what you're saying, but i dont agree.

halo 4 looks and sounds amazing, its sound engine makes a huge difference.

graphics, refers to visual imagery, not how much textures you can throw on a box, ive seen graphics in console games which are far better than that found in crysis or BF3.

you're tying graphics to technological advancement, which is only a part of it NOT all of it.

Fair enough it starts out slow and normal.  But the story truly does change and become very engaging.  The game is actually very critical of the modern shooter genre.

But yes! Mark Meer should be there. (So we are on topic).
