You can't honestly be surprised though? What with the greedy corporations having taken over most of the industry and turned games from an entertainment product into a shameless money grab (with a few exceptions). When have meddlesome corporations ever improved an industry?

The only think ME3 earned my vote on was Jennifer Hale's voice acting.

So much fail on this topic. ME3 NOT GOTY . . . are you kidding me.

Sure, the ending was not up to par for a lot of people, but the other 98 % of the game buried any other RPG out there. No one can say this game didn't set the bar for other RPG's.

I'm strongly in the ME3 for GOTY and RPG of the year categories.

I'm still annoyed that they decided to do this without Hitman: Absolution or Far Cry 3 even being released yet..

Set the bar for other RPGs? We're talking about a game that's 20% RPG at best and 80% TPS.  Where so many fans complained that most choices didn't amount to anything, that the quality of writing wasn't as good, and that this game didn't reach nearly the amount of potential it should've.

I'm sorry but speak for yourself dude.

I would vote for Torchlight 2, because it is the only game this year, where the price-performance ratio is acceptable.

I got bored with Torchlight 2 after about 40 hours. Torchlight 1 after about 20. MP in L4D2 gave me about 100 hours of enjoyment.

ME3 I've done 3 playthroughs for about 80-90 hours, plus over 300 hours of MP. It cost 3 times what Torchlight does, but I've gotten about 10 times the play out of it (and still counting).

ME3 also made me want to play through the whole series once more back-to-back once the final DLC is released (still haven't done an infiltrator or engineer run of any of the games, still haven't had Liara as a LI), which means it will have inspired me to spend another 100+ hours in the ME universe.

Really, even a game with a huge fanbase like COD or Halo gets you a 5-8 hour SP experience that you might play twice, and while there is a similar percentage of players with hundreds of hours of MP time in that series, the single player doesn't come close to how much time the average mass effect player has spent in-campaign.

Xenoblade takes the cake with that kind of competition in my opinion. Sadly I don´t think that many people enjoyed this 70h+ gem.

You had lots of choice.  Tuchanka, Citadel Priority II, Rannoch, your decisions can alter the galaxy and outcome as a whole.  Sure, lots of people wanted a happy ending (kids, home, small yard etc) it doesn't take away from the fact that ME3 is a hell of a RPG . . . certainly more deserving then the other nominees.

Sorry, I take original gameplay and design over a dumbed down sequel that relies on the success of it´s predecessors. To each gamer his/her own.

you essentially named all the choices....
also the choices have no real outcome on anything
finally please don't generlize peoples opinions with the annoying all people wanted was a happy ending argument, quite frankly we just wanted an ending that was not insulting

I'm just giving ya hard time.

I'll be serious for a moment because i do want to say this. A bad ending can actually take away from the RPG experience. I've already gone on and said i don't feel ME3 was a proper RPG. It was way too much of a TPS. But in all fairness let's forget all that, and i'll pretend ME3 is 100% RPG.

If you get me attached to the story and characters SO much, that i spend 5 years devoting my love and passion to your franchise, buying all kinds of merchandise and replaying your games dozens of times, and then you drop an ending like that on me, we've got a problem here. It takes me out of the experience, and ends up making me very angry. And as a result, it sours the whole game for me. It doesn't matter how good the journey was, a bad destination can ruin the whole trip.

Now all that aside, i personally feel that all those RPG nominees are more deserving than ME3, for the sole reason that each one of those games is more of an RPG than ME3. Especially Xenoblade Chronicles and Torchlight 2. But that's a whole nother discussion.

How do the VGAs actually get decided? Are the winners all decided by the voting panel, except for Character of the Year (VOTE SHEPARD!) and Most Anticipated Game? Or is it a combo of website picks/votes and the panel's votes? I've never been clear.

Something I posted elsewhere: I think it's possible to look past the ending and vote for ME3 because in my opinion, it is an extremely solid game, and I don't think I will ever enjoy a game quite as much. However, as my love for the game is positively affected by my interpretation of the endings and my optimistic expectations from Bioware in the months to come, I can see why people who saw the endings as bad writing and have consequently picked up on all the other "flaws" within the game, will have a hard time making the same decision as you (OP i was replying to) and I. Before anyone says it I realise this is probably a gross generalisation, but in light of what I have seen on the BSN, an arguably accurate one.

The problem for me is that the other 98% was nearly as bad as the ending.

Comedy animations, poor quest tracking, eaves-dropping side-quests, the amount of dialogue where players have no input, writing which railroads Shepard into one path despite the player having followed another (Paragon/Renegade).

Mentioning writing, some of the conversations were terrible in their execution and were obviously written for those who had never played the previous games. The Rachni Queen conversation being the worst example, the section referencing the past encounter was just horribly forced in.

There were highlights, some of the missions on Rannoch and Tuchanka were great, and Grissom Academy was perfectly balanced between combat and story for me. However the rest of it was dull and uninspiring shooting galleries.

In short, overall the amount of rubbish in the game far overweighed the quality sections and that is without even including the ending.

Edit: However if there had been an option to vote for most surprisingly good online section in a game, Mass Effect 3 would have gotten my vote there.
