No Halo 4 or Borderlands 2, but ME3 is up there? *Tableflip*

Nevermind the fact I actually enjoyed Halo 4 the entire way through...

Heh, on the TIMES top 100 games list, they specifically says that it's the journey, not the destination, which works for life but not the end of the trilogy when the last third of the path starts off with rocks in your shoes and then you fall of a cliff and die (or fall into a pile of rocks and then wait to die).

If I cared enough to vote, I'd go for Walking Dead

AC3 will probably win it. But it'll be between AC3 and ME3, based on that list.

I really don't think we should reward BW/EA at this point for the things they have been doing this year. Cutting corners in quality to keep EA afloat does not seem something that deservers laurels imo.

I hope it wins for a few reasons.

1. I've played dishonored and ac3. Neither tells a very good story IMO.

2. Walking dead and journey are great but I think they are only their for show. I'd be very surprised if they go with these two.

3. Working at bioware this year must have been hell. The employees who put their hard work into making a great game like me3 were rewarded with nothing but fan backlash and hatred. They deserve praise, even if the endings upset people. The overall game, IMO, was still fantastic.

4. ME3 is the highest reviewed game of the year on metacritic. Over halo 4, borderlands 2, dishonored, ac3, etc. Journalists reviewed ME3 as the best game of the year, I hope they stand by their scores.

Not really much competition this year. If they nailed the ending I'd say GOTY without a doubt, but between halo 4 and AC3 I'd say its close.

Destructoid gave Halo 4 a perfect 10 and called it the best single player story experience of the year. I don't think ME3 can claim the same. Besides, I think the credibility of reviews is a topic that has been beaten to death.

But then again, I'm of the opinion that ME3 was chalk full of disappointments, more than triumphs (which it *did* have, just not consistently all the way through).

Edit for typing derps.

I think ME3 should win every award possible. It's legen... wait for it... dary. Boware really came through with EC and showed they can handle pressure and facing a majorly dissappointed audience. GOTY really isn't enough. ME series should get the GODY (d=decade) award.

Cdrskyshepard, halo 4 is a great game. I'm a lvl 56 right now. I love it. But I do not agree with most on it's single player.

Spoilers for HALO4

IMO it has two characters, chief and cortana. the rest a bunch of nameless marines and some scientist. I beat the game in 4 1/2 hrs on heroic. They created an antagonist and then did nothing with him. (no boss fight? Seriously, that's how you win?)

The single player played great, was excellently paced, and it did show chief as a better character, but the plot was weak IMO. Awesome game. Awesome story? No. Not to me anyway.

And like that you've lost me.

Moreover I'm not really sure how a slide show with some voiceover and a goodbye scene really quallifies as "Showed they can handle pressure"

Yes, a well crafted game with great gameplay that features an ending which retroactively destroys one of the most beloved video game series of all time.

Considering how many fans it turned off to Bioware and the Mass Effect franchise, I really don't see how it can win. It was a well crafted game, until the end made many fans never want to see a Mass Effect game ever again.

Are you serious?  The Extended Cut failed to address most of the concerns of the disenchanted fanbase.  It appeased some, as evidenced on these forums, but by and large, you will see tons of fans whose requests and concerns were completely ignored by the extended cut.  And someone will spout how you can't appease everybody, which is true, but just go view a video by MrBTongue or Smudboy, or Archengia, or any of the very well informed fans of the series and you'll see the shear disappointment that resonates in countless fans and how for them, the logic flaws of the ending retroactively destroys the series for them.

It boggles the mind really.

One slide show

One Goodbye scene

2 lines of extra dialogue with the brat

And its supposed to quallify for best game of the decade?

I've watched Pokemon episodes with better writing than ME3's last ten minutes...

My money's on AC3 though it'll be funny as **** if they all loose to Journey. A free to play 500 MB downloadable PSN game.

I will laugh my ass off

Hey, Journey cost money. Like, Leviathan money. I actually was going to buy the Deus Ex DLC instead of Leviathan, for justice and all that, but decided to postpone DE for the moment and got Journey instead. It was inventive, emotional and artistic (yay!) in ways Mac Walters could never even dream about.

Of course Journey has zero chance to win, being a PS3 exclusive alone guarantees that.

Nomination? No. Actually winning a lot? Yes.

The most lopsided poll I've ever made on BSN

social.bioware.com/1707548/polls/38987/

haha that's the problem with your poll right there....."made on BSN"

(Not that the Spike VGA's are legitimate at all. But I'd bet atleast a few major publications will be giving ME3 their game of the year award)

Time will tell

Hey don't get me wrong, I loved Journey. I'm just saying it'll be funny as **** if it wins considering how many more MILLIONS of dollars went into producing every other game on that list.

The state of gaming really must be bad if ME3 is in with a chance.  I bought GW2 recently and comparing the 2 I would have thought that would be in with a strong chance, as would (it grates me to say) the latest COD stuff.

I want Okami HD to win, because for some reason graphically updated PS2 classics are better games than so many modern counterparts its kinda ridiculous.

I'd say Zone of the Enders HD too, but i haven't actually got it yet.

Anyone notice that Bioware isn't a nominee for Studio of the Year? Ouch.

I will never understand these websites systems for picking nominees.  How is it that ME3 is up for goty yet its not up for its category best nor is bioware up for studio award.  Makes no sense at all.  This is a common occurrence across a lot of sites.

As for my pick, not that anyone cares but i'll vent it onto the internets anyways, had you asked me up until about march 10th I would of said nothing will beat ME3.  But that went down the drain (no need to say more), and to my suprise the game I was very very doubtful of all year, Halo 4, is now my pick.  Now theres a game that pulled off an artsy bittersweet ending without soiling its pants in the process (not that thats the reason its my goty, just saying).  Of course there wasn't really much competition.  The only other game that even came close for me was Borderlands 2.  Very slow year.  But no, Halo 4 to my suprise is actually an amazing game that has completely rejuvinated my interest in its franchise after a significant wane.

ME3 does diserve credit for great gameplay, don't get me wrong.  But the franchise to me was always about the story first and foremost.  The travesty they wrought on that aspect in ME3 overrides the great progress they've made in the gameplay department.  Sorry Bioware but you don't get this vote.  Luckily my vote is as worthless as anyone elses though so who cares.  The out of touch bought and sold media still loves ya, thats all that matters.

I'm already stung enough by the absence of Borderlands 2 and Halo 4 from the nominees, but if ME3 wins, then these awards will have officially lost every remaining iota of credibility for me.

Personally, I'm guessing those two games were excluded because the critics were trying to be "artsy" and "high-brow", so FPS games get the automatic snub.

Speaking of "artsy" and "high-brow", where else have we seen attempts at that go horribly wrong?

Ever thought the reason no one messes with Halos gameplay is because its bloody fantastic, works and is actually one of the most unique mechanics amongst ALL of the ADS modern warfare shooters that are currently saturated the market? It still retains what makes it a good game, and doesn't fall for the trap of focusing so much on gameplay that the dev makes the plot an afterthought.

If 343 drastically changes the gameplay any further, Halo would be finished. It wouldn't be Halo. I have more respect for a dev that sticks to what their fans like and want more of rather than changing it for the sake of changing it. Thats why CoD always sells, thats why BF3 is widely regarded as being inferior to BF2, why Ubis TC trio aren't doing anywhere near as good as their predecessors, why fans are upset with AC3's combat simplification.

Gonna go and rage at Bohemia interactive because their mil-sims have stayed the same since the first OFP?

Don't fix what ain't broke. ME1s gameplay was broken in areas, so it was fixed in ME2, and then turned into a Gears of War clone in 3.

erm...the plot is an afterthought though.

Got any proof to back that claim up? Because I got several dev videos that say otherwise.

because the devs at bioware are honest all the time....
