Cdrskyshepard, halo 4 is a great game. I'm a lvl 56 right now. I love it. But I do not agree with most on it's single player.

Spoilers for HALO4

IMO it has two characters, chief and cortana. the rest a bunch of nameless marines and some scientist. I beat the game in 4 1/2 hrs on heroic. They created an antagonist and then did nothing with him. (no boss fight? Seriously, that's how you win?)

The single player played great, was excellently paced, and it did show chief as a better character, but the plot was weak IMO. Awesome game. Awesome story? No. Not to me anyway.

[HALO 4 SPOILERS READ AT YOUR OWN RISK]

I'd rather have two well-developed characters and follow them through a story than have a ton of well-developed characters and have them all but forgotten later on. Or worse, written out of character.

As for the bold...um. Where have we seen this recently? This exact same scenario? Harbinger, perhaps? Are you trying to use this as an example of why Halo 4 doesn't deserve a nomination over ME3? If so, that's...not gonna work, because that is exactly what happens in ME3. At least Halo 4 is the first game in the trilogy, not the last, so I can understand why they introduced an insanely powerful Forerunner character and not much became of him. The implication is that there are many, many more like him and you'll have to deal with them at some point in the future.

Were there things to be improved? Sure. But I'm much more willing to forgive 343i, who are newcomers, than BioWare, who committed many story sins of their own with ME3, and they are a veteran developer in terms of complex stories. And, IMO, they created a very weak story for ME3. I can't even say it was an awesome game. Game was alright, story was weak. Considering the story is ME's bread and butter, that's pretty inexcuseable.

Despite what I think of the ending of ME3, I believe it deserves to be nominated for game of the year. ME3 is a very well designed game and the story is awesome! Yes, the ending could be better, but I am still satisfied of the whole of this game has brought!

ME3 should not be voted for "bedcause indoctrination. How are you going to feel if you do vote for it and they turn around and say it was never their intention? After it wins...

You know what?  I don't care.  Even if it wasn't indoctrination, I can live with the endings (Though I still won't like them), and the rest of the game was frakking great.  Either way, it deserves GOTY.

I voted for ME3 to get the GOTY cause it's not only a great game but I also invested too much time into playing it and posting on BSN for it to not deserve this award.

I'm more disappointed that Dragon's Dogma wasn't nominated for "Best RPG" this year.

I wouldn't be surprised (or care) if ME3 wins GOTY. Skyrim won last year and I, personally, don't believe it deserved it. So, anything is possible...

Nope. I'm not voting for ME3.
It may be a really good game, but it really doesn't deserve a GOTY award. Not only because of the ending but because of many other things, as well.

I'm happy to see BW recognised for it's efforts............ but GOTY? Nuh uh.

With the ending controversy, the plummet of it's user based rating's that are independent of critic like IGN and the Trilogy GOTY boxet that does not include all the DLC.............. I have to ask.

Beyond the sterling efforts of previous ME games and the large portion of ME3, has BW really gone the extra mile with the latest installment of their franchise?

Or are they coasting a bit on past successes?

Nomination? No. Actually winning a lot? Yes.

The most lopsided poll I've ever made on BSN

social.bioware.com/1707548/polls/38987/

look at when that poll was made, it was done during the whole "ending suckls, Mass Effect is forever ruined, wah wah wah," incident.

as a result, most of the "No" votes were probably raged induced, and thus should not be taken seriously

.....................................That is one of the stupidest comments I've ever seen you make, not by a lot mind you.

Peoples opnions are only valid after the ones who hated it leave and the ones that stayed "cooled off"  ?  WTF.....

Also how is Halo 4 not nominated for GOTY?  I've never really taken GOTY awards seriously anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if it won, it did have "75 perfect reviews", derps will be derps I suppose.

Journey or The Walking Dead for GOTY. Since we haven't seen how TWD ends yet I voted Journey.

A question I have to ask myself before being able to answer this question is: What sort of game is worthy of such an accolade? What is it about one game that sets it apart from its contemparies?

Ultimately it comes down to excellence in each department. Music, Sound, Writing, voice Acting, Gameplay, Editing, Directing and Visuals... A Game of the Year Winner must be a role model of sorts. A game that causes other Developers to up thier game and inspire younglings to enter the Gaming industry. Is Mass Effect 3 that kind of game ? I don't think so. ME3 teaches future game developers more so what not to do.

How not to treat your auidence.

How not to Direct and Edit an Ending.

How to not mislead consumers with your PR Bullsh!t.

If a game is teaching you more of what not to do than what to do. Its not a Game of the Year...

Well then... 343i is a shoe-in for SOTY.

Please....if you cannot see that Mass Effect 3 is heavily favored to win the most GOTY awards, you are ignorant.

The other games had their shot, but they flopped...Almost every other blockbuster is under 90 Metacritic this year...Halo 4, Diablo III (hell, its beaten by an indie Diablo clone) COD BO2, ACIII, XCOM, etc. The best reviewed game this year is ME3, at 93 for the console versions.

True enough that this year's AAA games have been a bit lackluster.  Not sure if that says anything good about a game that DOES win GOTY.

"Congratulations, you're not the worst?  Shoot for mediocrity next year?"

Voted for AC III. That game deserves to be GOTY imo. Borderlands 2 would have made me conflicted, but alas its not there for the running :(

ME3 is a good game, but doesn't deserve to be the GOTY in my books. Flawed in too many ways.

If there were more options I may have agreed. I'm not blind to ME3 flaws, you can really tell some areas needed some more time and work. But overall I picked it for GotY because of all the games I played this year, (Besides Guild wars 2) It was the one I enjoyed and had the most fun playing.

Apart from the terrible ending of the game, Mass Effect 3 offers a lot of great writing and numerous memorable scenes, mostly on par with Mass Effect 1 and therefore among the best that I have seen in any video game so far. The gameplay is solid, graphics and sound are nice, and the length of the game is at least acceptable.

I never understood why Mass Effect 2 earned so many awards, in my opinion it was mostly mediocre and in many ways a step back in comparison to Mass Effect 1. Fortunately, the developers learned from their mistakes and made Mass Effect 3 a much better game.

If there are two reasons why I possibly would not nominate Mass Effect 3 as the game of the year, they would be the terrible ending of the game and Origin. But on the other hand, there once again isn't much competition, since most of the hyped games are really nothing special. Nice graphics, lots of action, but little content and depth. So if I had to vote for any game to be the game of the year, Mass Effect 3 would probably be my choice after all.

Halo 4 was spectacular but had a way too short campaign. I haven't played other GOTY worthy games besides that and ME3, so i still vote for ME3. There are many issues with it, other than the ending too, like autodialogue and stuff, but i was still very immersed into the game, so it really deserves GOTY imo.
