Really? No recoil, super fast reloads. Good damage (not as high as BW, but not bad).

Well, I don't own a valiant sadly, so I cannot really speak. I took a look at the stats, and it struck me that it has not much more than half the damage per shot of the BW.

But now that I think of it, I guess its weight makes up for it, on certain characters. Still, on an infiltrator I'd go BW unless the Valiant is really a higher level, I think. But again, I'll tell you my definite opinion when I get my hands on one

I like Widow much more than BW.
BW sounds/feels so weak and empty when you shoot.
And I like Widow's powerful single shot.

Widow is easier to level and to use than either the Black Widow or the Javelin. That is probably the bulk of the reasoning behind anyone choosing it over either of the other two.

If you buffed the Widow, how do you not encroach on the territory of the Javelin? Are you going to go back to release (where Widow was more powerful) and assume that more penetration and a fancy scope actually make up for the higher rarity and the trigger delay?

I agree with this. For a long time I didn't use the Jav thanks to the steeper learning curve.

For once I agree with Stardusk... well, partially.

I was talking about this with a friend a week ago, the Widow right now is in a incredibly awkward position. The Javelin does so much more damage over it that the Widow's advantages (lower weight and instant shot without delay) just don't seem worth it at all, while the Black Widow is now so close in damage per shot, that it just feels like you're gimping yourself by taking the Widow.

IMO, what the Widow could use right now is a weight reduction, not a damage buff, just make it lighter than the Black Widow. While that won't make it more appealing to Infiltrators, it would make it more appealing to non-Infiltrators, which is a good thing imo, most sniper rifles aren't very enticing for one reason or another to non-Infiltrators.

it is the claymore of sniper rifle, right now I somehow prefer the widow to claymore since the shiled gate change, it can do the same thing as claymore, cloaked headshot osk centurion, and it has range. But well, I guess bw can do the same with a bit equipments, but really the other day I played my claymore krodept after using Widow QFI, I kinda missed the widow from time to time.

I find the Widow frequently outscores the BW, especially when accidentally zoning the same targets. The reason is, yes, the BW has a higher DPS, but I find the Widow usually drops the target before the second or third shot.

For quick scopers, the Widow might still be the best SR, due to the fact that it is less dependent on accuracy.

The insane amount of badassery when you wield the grandson of a Mosin Nagant sniper rifle.

Widow always was my favourite sniper rifle in the game, every bullet counts, it forces yourself to be cold and make every shot count.

Perhaps BW is more fast and reliable, but Widow is a liturgy.

Kinda makes me wish they'd swap the tech damage on Operative Package with the cooldown reduction on Expert Package. Sniper damage and cooldown reduction would be really spiffy for a sniper infi that wanted to do something besides pop heads.

Aha! I knew I wasn't imagining the Widow doing more damage when I was in SP. Played MP so long that it made me confused lol.

Same here - Widow X and BW 1.  I tend to use the Widow more because of that, although I don't use snipers that much anyway.

As far as ME2 goes, if I stuck with what I loved in that game, I'd be using the Locust, Scimitar, and Viper.  Man, did they destroy those guns in this game or what?

This is made even worse by the fact that the Thermal Scope and SR Heavy Barrel makes the Widow into a "javelin-lite". There's no way to buff the Widow without strongly enroaching on the Jav.

I am far from being a good sniper, but from what I could tell, doing the sniper challenge, I could fire 3 shots from the Widow - ( using reload cancel of course ) as fast as I could fire 3 shots from the BW. and with more damage per bullet from the Widow? Would that not make a better choice?

I Like the widow myself.

Is Black Widow I better than Widow X? If not, when does BW overtake Widow X? Considering the hundreds of hour I've had the Widow at much higher level than the Black Widow, and the hundreds of hours to come, that might be my reason. I've used both for the sniper challenge, but not on the same character so it's hard to compare my anecdotal experiences.

 javelin > widow > BW/valiant. If you are actually good at sniping, the widow is much better the higher the difficulty level / harder enemies. the javelin puts both in the shade. On infiltrators anyway.
