Boy this erasing people and their preferences sure is fun, I'm glad I cut out the middle-man with my vote.

I actually prefer to pretend that I'm the only living human and that everything happening around me is my mind coping with the hopelessness of my station.

I suspect that if you're looking for things that can be discretely laid out as "this will be exactly like it was in DAO and not at all like it was in DA2" you're apt to be disappointed. There won't be much of that. There will be a number of things which find a middle ground, but explaining how and why requires showing-- which is why we intend to wait, lest verbal explanations just leave people asking more questions. There will also be things which we changed for DA2 and which will be iterated on, based upon feedback, but again there's no point in simply describing them. All we've talked about so far are the things we know for certain we won't be having or changing.

So feel free to assume the worst for now, if you like. More info will come sometime next year.

Thanks for your answer ^_^

When I asked the question, I was wonderng if there is any feature equivalent to "forced human protagonist" (iteration from DA2), but with Origins as model. I take from your words, though, that Origins features will be scarce -while some DA2 features will remain intact, and others in the middle gorund-.

Well, let's wait for 2013 then ^_^ I'm eager to see how the "middle ground" idea turns out this time.

Well, one pretty big feature that will be returning from DA:O is the much greater level of world/map exploration (even venturing to other countries), which will be a change from only being able to explore Kirkwall and its immediate environs. Customisation of follower appearances will be returning from Origins also.

As for a middle ground between DA:O and DA2, the design of the elves will be somewhere in-between what we've seen in the past two games. Another middle ground is that there will be more opportunities to have conversations with party members as in DA:O, and probably less companion quests than DA2 had, as a compromise between the two games. Also, the length of DA3 should be longer than DA2, but it's probably not going to be as long as DA:O, so there's something else for you.

More speculatively, the party camp, or something similar, is likely to return (maybe something in-between DA:O and DA2 in terms of follower bases?) Also, specialisations are likely to be associated with missions again, as in DA:O, and these missions will probably be a lot more substantial in DA3.

This is all subject to change, of course (and it's probably best to go here rather than just take my word for all these features.)

One other Origins feature that was dropped in DA2 was the ability to be horribly, hilariously evil. I'd love to know: will the upcoming game be like Origins where we can do evil playthroughs and kill off just about every character at some point in the game (as well as good playthroughs where you can go out of your way to save a large number of people with extra effort like in Redcliff or at the Landsmeet,) or will it be like DA2 where most characters either have plot armor or are doomed to die no matter what you do?

It was really amazing what a massive life-or-death impact you ended up having on the world by the end of Origins (Alpha Protocal's another game that I thought did that really well too,) and I think the lack of that is one of the reasons people felt so railroaded by DA2.

I wouldn't go that far. If anything you can learn from mistakes. (That's valid for both the devs and the consumers).

Yeah, it's safe to assume the worse, especially if you loved Origins & didn't particularly favor DA2. The term "middle ground" I keep seeing is only going to alienate the fanbase - just like DA2 had done. The people who'll like DA3 will hate DA2 & Origins, while the people who'll like Origins will hate DA2 & DA3 & so on. No one will know exactly what to expect from the DA series anymore (since it's constantly changing formulas), thus fragmenting the fanbase. The middle ground will try to please everyone, but it only serves to alienate DA fans.

So far all I've heard is what we are not getting from DAO. I'm really interested in what Bioware is planning to bring back from that epic game........... Any positive info would be welcome at this point.

I choose to remain cautiously optimistic where DA III, Mass Effect 4, and (unrelated to BioWare) the announcement of Star Wars Episodes VII-IX are concerned. You'd think cautious optimism was a foreign concept here on the BSN.

I'm hoping that some of favourite things from DA:O, like skills will come back. On the subject of skills:

Isn't there anything at all that you can say now, which doesn't require showing?

Like, say, an isometric camera being available? :innocent:

Seems like all the feedback from the fans over DA2 has faded away.

I regret ever buying DA2! I didn't even finish the game, I got 3/4 through it and hated it so much that I couldn't bring myself to finish.

I doubt I will buy DA-I, I'll wait for others to review it before I spend my hard earned money again on a failure of a game.

I guess so. The general feedback on DA2 was that it was worse than DAO in practically every aspect, which I fully agree with. Now they're iterating on things from DA2 according to that very same feedback? Alright...

Also from the numbers I saw, DA2 sold about half the copies that DAO sold. Not sure it's wise to iterate on anything from DA2 tbh:pinched:

Well, we'll be able to give our companions different armor sets... That's an Origins feature, no?
