I haven't read the books with this character in them, but I have to say that he was such a horrible try-hard showoff in Mass Effect 3.

First of all, Kai was wearing super special awesome plot armor during the Thessia mission. The gunship missiles "conveniently" missed him even though they were hitting everywhere else in the temple and everytime Shpeard kept getting in the position to kill Leng, the ground kept crumbling underneath him/her while Kai just casually and slowly walked to his gunship as if he was aware of this plot armor. And of course when Shepard and co. fially get back on the ground to kill Leng, he's already in his ship. His plot armor was so obvious, it was plated with shiny metallic gold bright enough for anyone in any location in the Milky Way to see. And speaking of plot armor, I love how he can space-magically become invulnerable and restore his shields at the same time.

Then there was the whole scene with Leng attacking Shepard during the Cerberus Base assault. Kai Leng missing his sword impale if Shepard did not use the Renegade interruption was the worst choreographed moment in this game. Even if Leng is injured, he still had a clear shot at killing Shepard and he wastes it due to plot BS.

And the most atrocious Kai Leng moment in ME3?

The email. The. Mother. *******. Email. This one moment just ruined Kai Leng as a villain and as a character in general. It's not even filled with anything significant. It's just him going: "LOLOLOLOLOLOL! U r failur3 Shepurrrd!&*&^(*@^%" He acted like such an immature twerp and his ****** should have considered the possibility of his email getting tracked. Were the developers thinking this one through at all? Was this their opportunity to troll their fanbase?

In conclusion, Kai Leng has been turned into a horrible, worthless antagonist. Next time, try not to ruin such good characters.

In the books, he fit alright as a character. He even made you hate him because he was an evil ****** and not just because he was a trollish douche like in ME3. It was how he was portrayed in ME3 that was terrible, for many of the reasons you stated.

He used to be a badass like shepard until he took a thermal clip to the knees?  Is that what you are saying?

I really hated that stupid squat stance he took when fights started. I mean really how intimidating is that pose? Its ridiculous. I don't care what his sword fighting style is, if someone did that pose infront of me I'd laugh in their face.

The e-mail was just so.... Unprofessional. Everything about him was unprofessional. He could have been terrifying, like a true anti-shepard. "Holy @#$%, watch out for this Kai Leng guy, he means serious business and just gets the job done efficiently no matter the cost." SAID NO ONE EVER. The illusive man should have smacked him for showboating.

Seriously. On thessia. WHAT ARE YOU DOING MAN?! All your plans are at risk here and you're WALKING back to your shuttle? The most dangerous soldier in the galaxy could be like 5 feet away with a gun and you're liking. Smart.

-end rant

what armor pieces is Femshep wearing in that pic? the color looks like Inferno, but the chest is wrong so it must be some kind of custom-N7...

lol, nah, but his character did fit. He was a Cerberus assassin, like Grayson, and ex-Alliance (N7). His extreme racism for all things alien led him to Cerberus, and he had unwavering loyalty to the Illusive Man, who he viewed as a visionary. He was a much more believable character...except in Deception. Which wasn't written by Drew anyways. Much of his actions in the books involved how he ruthlessly killed, and he never trolled about it or rubbed it in the faces of his enemies. He just did as he was told.

He was literally the antithesis of Shepard's character.

Contrast this with ME3 - he acts like a twelve year old.

I was unimpressed with just about everything regarding Kai Leng. First things first, my Shepard is an adept and I was already thinking plot armour 3 seconds after he started fighting Thane.

That damn armour looks incredibly pathetic. Whats with the... ehh.. helmet? eye glasses? not only is it ugly, it also makes him look weird and out of place.

Both on Thessia aswell as TIM's base, Kai never even managed to get within 7 meters of my team.

P.S. TIM was super awesome as a villain... right up untill they had to go and make him some cheat indoctrinated copy of the always awesome Saren.

Yeah but did at the end of the book or something he get shot in the knees by anderson. And thus transform from badass to ME3KaiLeng? Genuinely curious as to the transition point in his character.

Ahh an off shot of the General Grievous syndrome, this is not.

Kai Leng was smart in the books he was. Then derped to all hell in the game because  wholly incompetent the writer is.

Grievous, brilliant he was in the 5 min cartoon, then, took a Windu force Crush to the chest, he did. A distinct lack of intelligence, he did not have.
