Oh, good. So there's still hope that the DA3  won't be fan-pandering it's companions.

I assure you that if we did include Cullen as a follower, it wouldn't be solely to "pander" to his fans. Not that I would overly mind pandering to them. They're not a large group, but there's hardly a nicer and more polite group one could choose to pander to.

Dragon Age II left me with a bit of respect towards Cullen. His behavior in Origins + his ending slide that basically wrote him the way you wrote Meredith, made me wary of him, but he surprised me.

I would support Cullen as a squaddie. Let the bromance begin! :P

I have no problem with Cullen as a companion. He has played a part in both games, so I would not be surprised to see him show up in some fashion in DA3. I think that he could actually play a big part with the Templars. I am sure that bioware is not going to put a companion in just because. All the companions that we have had in both games have served a purpose and have added weight to the story being told and I am sure that that trend is going to continue.

OP I share your concern... after a fashion - and I am a Cullen fangirl. I don't want to see him stuffed into the next game just to please us. It would be a HUGE disservice to us as fans, to all other players as fans - who are just as deserving of a good story - and to the potential Cullen possesses. If he's not done right, we don't want him at all. Or as nothing more than maybe an NPC. A good example of what I mean is the complaints I've heard over how Anders changed from DAA to DA2. However Anders has a very good reason for changing so drastically. Cullen does have a lot of potential - in my opinion anyway - and I'd love to see that realized rather than butchered. We as fans have often discussed how his story can go in both good and bad and directions and, of course, presented our own preferences and input (some of us love a good bittersweet tale as much as DG does, you know ;)) but the bottom line is: Cullen does have much to offer - especially if the story still pertains to the mage/templar conflict.

If you're fine with him as a character as long as he's done well, you have nothing to worry about. We've not made all that much fuss over him outside our little haven so I don't see how you came to be so concerned about us being pandered to. There are many other more concrete concerns one can have - like the continuation of the mage/templar war, for instance. Not all the fans want more of it but it is still as yet an unfinished story and I would like to see its conclusion. Others have expressed concern over lack of playable origins, race classes and the fact that the new engine has thus far been used only on FPS titles (as far as I'm aware anyway) so there are things - real things - that have more basis than whether or not we're being pandered to. ^_^

I don't want to be pandered to at any rate! LOL!
