Wich ones were the non-optional ones in the first game? i only remember alistair, he he could get swapped with Loghain later on. You could ask all of the others to leave, right?

Alistair and Morrigan were both essential companions, but only Alistair couldn't be asked to leave, (only forced by making Anora Queen or by letting Loghain join the Grey Wardens).

Ok. I`ve never actually asked Morrigan to leave, but i seem to remember the option being there in the convos?

Oh yes. I think there were a few things that would make her leave. I think at one point in development you could turn her over to some Templars at the Circle Of Magi. No matter what she still shows up to offer the DR though.
