@angrypants: How many people can carry 100+ things in their pockets on top of gold coins? After buying so many backpacks, maybe the protag should be animated with a duffel bag?

Trista, I reject your logic and substitute my own: magic applies to packaged inventory, but not to held items. Who needs a duffle bag for 100+ items, when you have magic?

Remember, this is the 21st century! We have magic and space magic now. Modernise man!

Welp, when more than half the thread responds to the straw man that's my cue to bail.

Godspeed.

As for the strawman, 1) it's a strawman 2) abstracting potentially tedious things like inventory is not the same as having to watch a character cleave the suspension of disbelief in twain with an improbable sword swung as though it were a hairbrush.

There is undisputable evidence that this statement is correct.

Can't, blinded by the color of the guy's jacket.

She is adorable. What’s her name? How old is she?

Not necessarily. One could argue the main reason men use oversized weapons is to compensate.

Anyway, I am for big, slightly floppy swords that can be used to bludgeon people to death with.

Do I ever have the movie for you.

(I wouldn't click that at work, but it's a mainstream movie)

We could be compensating for the blade instead, think about it.

I am slightly amazed that I had completely forgotten about that scene. I had even been thinking of A Clockwork Orange earlier today.

True, I never said what was being compensated for.

I support bigger weapons. I need a death scythe with a head the size of at least two kossiths.

The weapons definitely need narrower blades. Yes, they're more realistic, but really they also just look cooler.

And I want stuff carts, for weapons, armor, and miscellaneous other stuff. (Bar of soap? Yarn ball? Cart. lol) I'd like to just see them sitting in the loading area of non-town areas, and at the home base, wherever that is. And when travelling, it'd be cool if you have a little scene where you can see the Stuff Cart being rolled along with your group while they hoof it. lol ;-)

btw, lovely kitty :-)

I assume they don't have thin blades because most people play with the camera pulled back and BioWare wants you to still be able to see the design of your sword from the farthest point possible.

I like the big, flashy blades myself, though I agree that having them hang in the air five inches from character's backs isn't attractive.

The ones in Dragon Age are about as long as real ones but about four to five times the width.

I assume you're correct. I see it as a legacy issue from when graphics weren't quite what they are now and picking out exactly what was going on and having it look good was a bit harder to do, especially from a top down view (from a design PoV, easier for animation I guess).

Hm, this is maximum distance in Origins, and I am still able to recognize my blades:

Btw: The black kitty looks nice.

How about adding in butterflies and rainbows? Sten doesn't seem to mind and he has also taken pretty well to his new robes. Feather pauldrons FTW!

See sig for the original version which is one of my favorite 'little moments' in the game.

All right, a thread about great weapons and accuracy in medieval weaponry (I'm surprised no one's mentioned War of the Roses or Chivalry yet). I love talking about history! I can't wait to contribute something substantial to this...

*Applauds* Been saying it for years. I've got a hand-and-a-half sword, also known as a bastard sword, and it honestly couldn't way more than two pounds. Plus its well balanced so feels like its even less, really. Although, the only thing it cuts are snowmen during the winter season, lol.

which one?  Mines Tinker Pierce.

On topic: yes you can make swords long and be realisitic, it's when they look like sharp ironing boards or doors that suspension of disbelief cracks,
