I missed the toolset while playing DA2, had to rely on a whole bunch of third party softwares just to do the most miniscule modding. Haven't Bioware already realised the power of the fan base when it comes to creative ways to make the game better?

Even the supposedly unmoddable ME series had dozens of mods made. Mostly texture mods, but as we can see with all the awesome mods/fan films/custom campaigns made for DA:O, it could have been much more.

So toolset for DA3???:wizard:

Update: Just want to comment on something that's come up during the three months i've ignored this thread: ME3Explorer.
See for yourselves how regardless of how supportive the devs are, modders will always find a way. Again.Best to cultivate all this creative energy that acts in SUPPORT of the game, generating additional values from it, rather than to try and contain it no?

I'm not sure it's possible anymore, given the switch from an in-house engine to something licensed to them.

I remember that the Elder Scrolls series licensed (and then gutted and modified) the Gamebryo engine but still provided modding tools for their players, have any Frostbite engine games set a precedent for this so far?

I don't think multiplayer is even possible with DA3 unless it's made into MMORPG format. Or into something akin to Kingdom of Amalur (which was intended as a MMORPG to begin with) With all those skill sets, fast combat just isn't practical. It's not a shooter game.

I wouldn't count on it. Bioware hasn't provided toolsets for most of its games, And "extending the life" of their product benefits them only indirectly atbest.

I hope so, mods are what prompted me to be a pc gamer. Even when Dragon Age Origins got a bit stale for me I'd stumble across something as trivial as a hair mod and have a sudden urge to replay the entire game just for that one tiny thing. Please let modders have a toolkit BioWare... pretty please?

It's so much more fun when you can mod your game to hell and back, I'm a sucker for minute customization.

So an engine being licensed or owned affects a possibility of a toolset how exactly?

Also Frosbite is a property of EA, EA is free to give it to any of its devisions free of charge because otherwise it would be charging itself, which is just crazy. Just by the way, not like it really matters considering the topic at hand.

There's no way they'll spend time and resources in a toolset because 1) They believe only a tiny percentage of PC gamers will use it and obviously no console gamers at all, 2) It gains them little to no profit even if they charge for it, and most importantly 3) Who would buy their official DLC when they could download better fan made ones for free? IIf there had been a toolset for ME3, I bet there would have been far less drama and someone would have just made a better ending.

The problem with a toolset is that in a game like Dragon Age there is very little room to add something, for most of the items added to a game are either unfinished or disrupt game balance from my experience. There might be one or two really good mods, but normally I only mod a game to fix whats broken (or tedious) and most of the time I find a BioWare game playable without needing a mod unlike a Bethesda game. Now if you include the fact that the PC gaming market is getting smaller and smaller and only a portion of that playerbase will bother with modding the game it will become simply an issue with do they want to spend the time and resources on that or something else.

I will probably use the toolkit if its released, but I am not going to hold my breath, for I rather have another mission or two if I have to choose between the two.

DICE that owns the Frostbite2 engine is owned by EA. Bioware does not have to license the engine. The problem is that the tools used by DICE are not exactly made for public consumption. So if Bioware is using DICE tools then to create a toolset Bioware would have to put resources into a shape that the public could use.

The developers of the engine make the call on how it can be used.

Bioware can give away its own tools to whoever it wants. It can't give away someone else's tools.

Not going to happen. Between Frostbite having literally no third-party software to hack the engine, DICE never releasing a toolset, and Bioware having to go through a lot of loops to license a toolset for us, I doubt it. Seriously.

It might not even be Bioware holding us back from a toolset but a lot of legal issues like licensing whatever middleware they use...

Texture mods aside ive yet to come across a mod that actually makes me want to replay my game, most of the mods ive seen for the latest bioware games are just glorified ****** feasts either adding/modding stupid sex scenes or unclothing an whoring up of all the female characters in the game, is it any wonder they dont want anyone tinkering with there game, i certainly wouldnt seeing what the majority of mods available are like

Dear David Gaider,

A tool set would be nice. Nothing to special, something along the lines of DAO would work quite well.

What are your thoughts please?
