Here the quote is:

Merrill: "You know, I sort of miss the Qunari. They didn't talk much, but they were easy on the eyes."

dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Merrill/Dialogue

Makes her seem more straight than gay to me. I don't know.

I think if any Bioware game should be a model, it should be Mass Effect 3.

There were some people who were only interested in the opposite sex, some who were only interested in the same sex, and some who were open to both. You know, just like real life.

Merrill makes a comment about the Qunari being "easy on the eyes." Could be construed as lust, sure, but also as just appreciation for their musculature. I think it's included more to show that Merrill might be less "innocent" in her thoughts than she often lets on.

Yes. But if it is meant to make her less innocent, then why do it with her sexualising the male form, when she is supposed to be gay, when you roll a female PC. That is why that banter would have worked better if it was about her liking the female form, as that would have enhanced her "gayness" instead of her "straightness".

Except Merrill isn't necessarily gay just because you rolled a female Hawke. She is available to you if you so choose, yes, but you can headcanon her any way you like. I don't see a big deal here.

Aaaaand I have no idea how I ended up posting this much, I just wanted to know about gay marriage :(

You seem to be making the assumption that gay women don't find men attractive, or vice versa, that gay men may not find women attractive. It's about the type of attraction - admiring the physical appearance of someone does not necessarily mean that you want to bed the person, just that you appreciate what you perceive as beauty in form.

For me, that banter doesn't scream out "straight."

The day people stop trying to pigeon-hole other people into easily identifiable, distinct categories based on some linear set of pre-requesites and actually acknowledge that an individual personality is a combinations of different thoughts and feelings that are, at times, confusing or seemingly contradictory will be the happiest of my life.

Well, this thread again.

If BioWare have the resources for a gay/straight/bi trinity then sure, I'd like that. Otherwise, I'd prefer them not to go back to Origin's method, simply because that would mean gay players would be stuck with only one choice, and I frankly don't care enough about pseudo-realism to support that.

But I can't headcannon her as gay, when the game tells me she is straight. =] Whatever. We are going in circles now.

I will just leave it with this then. I still think that Bioware can improve on these things nad make the characters sexual orientation more consistent.

I've heard that, at a certain time on a certain day, and assuming the correct astral conditions, the fates relent their vice like grip on the sexuality of a certain individual, and it's possible for them to find both men and women - or even a certain man or women, and not their entire gender - attractive at the same time. To the point that classifying them as either straight or gay is entirely ineffective.

Of course, such things are the stuff of folk stories and old wive's tales, and remain unproven by accepted academic standard of modern day science.

You're right, it's not - it's about juvenile wish fulfillment for the dumb masses. Bioware aims to please with its stellar cast of Mary Sues that anyone can pixel bang, regardless of sexuality.

Everything on this site seems to be about sex as off lately.

This is true. But the game leaves me with so little to go on. That is why I blow things up. Perhaps if I was able to learn the characters better then I could understand it wasn't neccesary meant that way.

Let me put it this way. If someone you barely know walks up to you, and tells you, that you are very easy on the eyes, then how would you perceive that statement? Probably something about attaction am I right?

After I got over blushing? I would probably take it as a very generous compliment, which could be innocent enough. The compliment alone does not necessarily mean that the person wants to take me out to dinner and get my clothes off. It could just mean that the lighting was good, maybe I was flashing a winning smile. Something as mundane as that.

It's what's said afterwards, after the initial comment, that would give me a better clue as to the person's intention.

Now, since Merrill makes the comment as an aside, a sort of throw-away remark, I don't put a whole lot of "definining" properties to it. It's like looking at someone on a magazine cover and saying "oh, (s)he's pretty" and then you move on.

But, that's just my take on the matter.

If I say Bruce Campbell is a handsome man that doesn't mean the same thing at all as walking up to Bruce Campbell and saying "you are a handsome man." So that comparison is off to begin with.

So naive ;). Somewhat joking - but not really. I would see it as the person obviously trying to flirt with you.

Why is it always the touchy subjects that explode with replies? They should just make a thread titles "Sensitive Topics" and let it run wild.

I'm bi and I often fight voraciously where I see legit discrimination/prejudice against LGBT people but I honestly think people are too willing to pick up their pitchforks and torches on the slightest provocation. Yes I can kinda see the point with a completely gay character, and maybe Bioware will see fit to include such in DAI (it exists after all, in the form of Wade and Herrin), but I don't think Bioware is doing anything wrong or purposefully trying to exclude anyone on this front. The opposite in fact.

Most superheroes sure wouldn't have the physique they do if straight men could never enjoy the body of muscular men =)

Despite what anyone says, I know that the LI's in DAO and DA2 were in to my characters simply because my characters were just that awesome. No other explanation is wanted or required.

If they weren't into your characters, that's your problem and I am sorry. :kissing:

This.  Except Morrigan and I think that's just because she disapproved of my betrothed (Alistair).

Op, I agree with you.

And hopefully if they've the resources Bioware will make LI that each have a unique sexuality; like, I don't know, say, reality?

Origins almost had it perfect, if they had included a strictly gay LI than it would have been an even greater game then it is, and that's saying a lot. Unique sexualities add so much more depth and realism to a character (according to me, of course). For instance, mods aside here, if Morrigan was into women and Alistar could hitch up with a dude, they just wouldn't be the same character to me. They wouldn't be less epic of a character or less well-written, I'm not implying anything of the sort, but just different. Their personalities have already been crystalized with those characteristics and those prefernces within them.

But like Gaider said, it all boils down to resources. I hope they have enough to ditch the "hey, I have absolutely no sexual prefernce" thing imposed on ALL characters. Some being Bi is fine, actually better then fine, it's welcomed. But everybody? Eh....

I can actually totally see Alistair hooking up with a dude. I think they cut that since two kings would've been weird and unprecedented. Morrigan however definitely likes the peen. xp

Heterosexual men don't 'enjoy' them in the way you are implying. Heroes often have a good physique because it is a male ideal. Its a physique most of us want regardless of our sexual orientation. That, and being too thin or obese is viewed as being weak. Men are expected to be physically strong and atheltic, even if the reality doesn't always match the ideal.

Heterosexual men aren't however sexually attracted to it. Thats the difference between heterosexuals and people who are bisexual or homosexual.
