Mass Effect, Nomad, Lone Wolf, Dog of War, Operator, Hardcore... all of these suggest to me that the person can probably handle a Gold game just fine.

But you don't have to survive them.  Getting carried a lot will get your gold/platinum level maps up.  It's a "grind it out" banner.

True, but I know a player with it has played Gold, one of only three (Map Mastery, Squad Mastery, and Solo Mastery) to do that (as far as I know). Even if they were carried, they were on the maps, they likely shot at enemies, they were likely shot at by enemies. Shooting and getting shot at on Gold cannot be learned on Bronze and Silver. That experience, even if they didn't do much, is valuable.

Which ever banners make it easy to read What character is being played. Don't like duplicating prefer a diverse team , some of them are a pain to read with a banner.

I'm aiming for nomad right now, but it really does'nt impress, at least not anymore, The two people I saw with it sucked, And one was a missile glitcher.

That said, Lone wolf impresses me, You can't glitch for it, and it says at least the can handle geth gold. 

And of course the mass effect banner, Since you have to solo and it takes a dam long time to get.

It does take a lot but I'm pretty sure I played a lot more gold before the challenges came out than I had to to get the banner.

I would say "Operator (Squad Elite)" is a good one. I have LW and Nomad, but for Operator you need 275 extractions, challenge completions and some survival medals. I only need a few more medals and one more weekend challenge for Operator. The reason I think it's more meaningful than Nomad is the extractions. Theoretically, you can achieve Map Mastery without ever extracting.
Edit: Correction: that's 275 waves to complete 25 extractions for Operator.

None, really. However if their banner matches their character my expectations will go up a little. For example, If I saw a FQI with a Machinist banner I'd infer that is one of their favorite/best characters.

I just use mine for eye candy, but they dont really prove much. Just because you played 10,000 hrs to get a pretty picture doesnt mean you are any good.

Anybody that has that banner is hard-core for sure.    I do have some friends who will zoom around the map ( even on Platinum ) to try to grab the last enemy, lol.

The only banner that would impress me would be the Best of the Best banner. Even then I wouldn't instantly think the player is good, I'd have to see them play first.

Really, a few require individual skill, like having to solo gold and platinum, but most can be achieved by being an average player and spending many hours on MP and possibly get carried a lot.

I personally put value in people who have Spectre Mastery and all the other "difficult", time consuming banners already.

I'm sure that'll evaporate in time. Actually, I played with someone that had Spectre Mastery, and they were pretty terrible in the two matches I played with him. Bottom of the scoreboard, 20k both times.

None, but a combination of a good banner, high N7 rank, high challenge points, good weapons and good gear is good indicator.

None haha. Banners are nice an all just I find it just takes time for them I don't find that any hints to others in the lobby that this player is good and can handle a gold match. If anything lone wolf but I've played with a few with that banner and the dick off and leave the rest of the squad and never revive just a bad experience I guess. I played with people with some of the banners people have said and they were terrible. But I am impressed with those who have the lone wolf achievement.
