I think Collector Banner takes a little more than just time though.

If they are really bad, they will often avoid Collector. If they can handle Collector they most likely can handle other enemies too.
I have not seen really bad player with Collector banner, but lonewolf, Nomad are not as reliable as it should be.. even Hardcore players are not as good as I expect them to be..

Collector mastery is easy... I almost have it twice. If you do U/U/G, they're going to be the first to unlock just because you don't have husks and guardians and troopers to worry about. They're the only faction that's relatively balanced in the sense that each enemy type gets a decent representation in Gold. That people think it's hard kind of makes me think that most people forsake the unknown in favor of a specific enemy that their build is tailored towards.

I personally put value in people who have Spectre Mastery and all the other "difficult", time consuming banners already.

I'm sure that'll evaporate in time. Actually, I played with someone that had Spectre Mastery, and they were pretty terrible in the two matches I played with him. Bottom of the scoreboard, 20k both times.

Now, THAT's surprising. To rack up the needed points and medals for that one, being a consistent bottom scorer seems like it would take longer than the challenges have been active to achieve.

I was equally surprised. I was considering messaging him, but I decided against it because I didn't want to accuse him or make him feel like I was coming down on him. I messaged a person after a game once, to tell him he did a good job, and he told me that he's used to people messaging him telling him he's inadequate. Kind of makes me wonder how most players actually behave.

It was just abnormal because you have certain expectations when someone has it. And when they aren't really pulling their weight... well, maybe lag was an issue. I guess we'll never know.

I don't even have Spectre Mastery unlocked yet. But I'm at about 95%.

A lot of people let others play on their account.

none. I've seen N7 10k players who suck shiz. If you think a simple banner is going to make me trust their skill, you've got another thing coming.

Lone Wolf.

All of the other challenges only take time to do. Soloing gold or platinum takes at least SOME skill.
It proves you know what you're doing.

Dog of war is another one.

Lone Wolf and Hardcore are the two that make me think so. Even though I'm (semi) close to getting Hardcore.

The Dog-of-War banner is pretty hard-core. HTF do you get all those grabs?

Lolol dog of war was the first i got, and ive gotten it like twice more now not even trying.

Grabs really aren't that hard to pull off, it's a sync kill we can use.

I'm impressed when I see nomad/N7/hardcore

I would say "Operator (Squad Elite)" is a good one. I have LW and Nomad, but for Operator you need 275 extractions, challenge completions and some survival medals. I only need a few more medals and one more weekend challenge for Operator. The reason I think it's more meaningful than Nomad is the extractions. Theoretically, you can achieve Map Mastery without ever extracting.
Edit: Correction: that's 275 waves to complete 25 extractions for Operator.

Absolutely. Anyone with Squad Elite/Operator already has 25 Platinum extractions, so hats off.  This will change next week with the sixth likely very easy challenge at which point even scrubs like me will get it.

Edit: you've also been doing a lot of reviving. Even if it's just for the medal this represents good play.

I saw "Operator" (aka: Squad Elite) today... a tough get when we haven't yet had enough Wknd Events to easily knock it out.

Without Wknd Events you'd need: 100 First Aids, 25 Gold and 25 Platinum extractions.

I respect those...

Totally agree. That said, I haven't seen any really bad players with any banners. And I pretty much PUG all the way. Even the Hallowed Heros & the N7ers pulled their weight.  (By the way, the N7 weekend banner looks too much like the actual N7 banner and diminishes the achievement of having spammed packs to promote 60 times :D.)

The banners say nothing about the skill of a player. Like some other people said, you just have to invest lots of time to get one.
The Lone-Wolf-Banner, impres only newbies, but when you beginn to understand how this game is working it is easy to get. Go with a Kroguard, Geth, Reegar, incendiary rounds, CM IV and all what you have to do is melee melee charge..... and gold solo is no problem!

Hardcore definitely. I saw my first Operator today. Otherwise, a banner that follows in step with what their character is currently doing (Sniper banner on an infiltrator probably means they're pretty good.)

I do get concerned about people judging others with banners on the basis of a single match with them. Earth being a largish planet with respect to the speed of light, and some regions with less than desirable packet loss, means that I've joined games with close to 2 second lag, and half the time my powers fire but do nothing, a quarter of the time my bullets do nothing, and I've killed things with a headshot only to find the kill feed attributing the kill to someone else who killed said enemy a full second before I had.

Until you're at least in the same rough region as someone else, that makes it pretty hard to determine exactly how good or not good they are.

Honestly I think these banners are making me a worse player. Since the Retaliation dropped, I've played only 10 or so Gold games (which I used to do with ease), and lately just been playing characters I don't like, with guns I hate, on silver, just for the banners.

I'm now done with all the alien banners and weapon banners, so I might try some good builds again, but since I still don't have N7 Mastery I'm still constantly using low level characters, since I haven't even been assigning level 20 points, just going from a level 19 build back to 1.

I think that's why a lot of "good banner players" are doing terrible in the matches you guys play with them anyway. I can still rank second with a level 1 drellguard on silver, but I still feel anxious going back up to Gold. Maybe I just need to keep one try-hard build at 20, then promote the rest as they come.

Only the "Best of the best" banner. On the flipside, I know people are gonna suck for sure if they have the Hallowed Hero and N7 Day banners.

I for one, got my Lone Wolf banner by doing a Platinum/Cerberus/Hydra run with my Turian Havoc, so I guess people who did their Platinum run are also deserving of recognition, but with no way to check it in-game (only through the HQ thingy), I get suspicious when I see it.
