But chopping heads off is fine? there isnt *enough* nudity in games & movies as it is compared to the mass blood letting... DA is very tame on this front, GTA4 didnt have any at all unless you looked for it. The girlfriend feature in that game was just an outside cutscene/with noises - no visuals.

The only reason DA has an 18 sticker here, is the strong blood/violence. Im sure that says everything.

Did your Girlfriend even bring up the violence aspect of gaming/films? Image IPB

this is quite unusual to discuss

if you think back to the sort of times this games based on, knights of the realm and all that sot of thing, historically women were 2nd class citizens and males were far superior, surely its enough that bioware saw fit to adjust that in this game so that they are seen as equals.

what i don't get is how can a girl complain about something like the desire demon when 90% of the males in game have 8 pack abdominal muscles and look like modern day male models? i wanted to make my character a fat, lazy slob but i can't lol

fact is its a game, i certainly don't get off over the thought of a desire demon and im sure thats not the intent, but its supposed to portray an image of desire, and for the majority, and historically thats the female form.

lets be honest, the females and males on this game are largely attractive looking, theres far more less attractive people in real life, thats why its a game after all, i like it as it is. its not meant to be realistic, if it was we'd die after 1 hit.

and comparing this to something like GTA is odd because i don't know any girls that play GTA, bar my little sister but only because she likes driving lol GTA is 95% male gamers that play it, of course it will be aimed at the target audience.

now thats a comment i agree with, the games a mature rating yet almost everything is sensored.
its fine to chop peoples heads off and the like but they neglect to show the top half of a woman lol it doesn't make sense to me.
im not suggesting virtual animated porn or anything like it, but the game does lack at least abit of nudity especially in the romance scenes, you'd at least expect to see the a womans top half, which is allowed in films from 15+ i believe, so why its not in games is beyond me.

But are any of the men walking around nearly naked?

I don't think it's sexist to include attractive and undressed women in a game. Making people attractive is just instinct, and the nudity makes sense in context. However, that nudity was specifically designed to be at least a little arousing, unlike the extremely few instances of male nudity in the game. (Sex scenes and romances aside, of course. Those are equal for both sexes.) And I think it's unfair that female /gamers/ were left out of being able to watch a few gorgeous guys walk around in their birthday suits. If guys get the Lady of the Forrest, I want Bann Teagan to have to take his shirt off or something. Know what I mean?

Nudity and sexuality in the game is fine, I just wish Bioware had given women the same amount of fanservice that guys seemed to get. :innocent:

As I recall the only 'nudeness' demons or spirits or anything you encounter are The Lady of the Forest herself and Desire Demons. If your girlfriend is annoyed that there is *any* nudity/mature stuff in the game I can understand why she's annoyed, but if it's just because she thinks every female character is depicted in a sexist fashion I'd point out that the giant ugly dragon you fight in the Urn quest is female.

And the Broodmother is female.

And Hespith is female.

It's not like they're all lookers.

Personally I thought the Lady of the Forest looked uncomfortably like Alma from the FEAR series, particularly the second game...

True, she's horrific. But every demon and Darkspawn that isn't her or a desire demon is a nasty-looking male.

Man, your GF sounds like a frigid. When my GF saw the Morigan sex scene she was like "Can't you get that hoe naked? What kindergarten 18+ **** is this?".

Sexuality is a part of human nature. Morigan in no way is depicted as just a toy for the male main character. She has her own thoughts and made my PC in many ways look like a weak looser, while she came off as a self confident and strong character. Showing a woman, who knows and takes what she wants is not sexist.

Seriously, time for your GF to see some pron or you will regret marrying her eventually.

i agree the broodmother is 1 mighty ugly thing.

and yh perhaps they should do a series of questions which depict how the game shows certain people/scenes, like if your a straight girl gamer it'd be more to your likeing

I think the other demons aren't really "male" as we think of male, tbh.  The sloth demon looks to me as if he could be either or none, he's really freaky looking.  His "natural" form freaks me out every time >.>

Darkspawn are nasty-lookign though, and definatively male.  There's a few males in the origins that aren't terribly bad looking though, and are farm more badass than any darkspawn

That could be a problem :P

Every character of mine is different - straight males, bi-curious males, bi-curious females, straight females..  no one category would work for them.  Which is why they probably stuck for just one form; trying to figure out who wants to see what when would be an expensive task

Care to point out the genitals on a rage demon?

Heck, even Uldred (Pride) was going Ken doll as I recall. Demons seem to be non-gendered and only Desire demons take a form that plays on human, well, desires.

We cant have Teagan take his shirt off. Every male gamer would commit suicide seeing this ideal of a man, and how he himself can never reach it. Women are considered to be more mature. One does not expect them to commit suicide because they can´t be as awesome as the Lady of the Forest (what, by the way, some can).

And, to make this thread completely redundant, if you would read the Mister and Miss Ferelden posts you would see that there are as many, if not more, awesome men as women.

This is what I meant in my earlier post. I have no problem with male or female nudity in the game. There should be more of it - my female characters wear modern strapless bras before, during, and after sex, for crying out loud.

I suggested they did it that way because a majority (not the vast majority by any means, someone's figure of a bit over 40% female gamers seemed about right) of players are male. Seems to ignore a pretty hefty minority group - almost 50% of players.

Further, historically at least, women were considered to be the most prone to lasciviousness, the ones most prone to indulging in licentious behaviour, and the weakest in regard to 'demonic wiles and temptations'. Scholar of religion, here, specialising in witchcraft. Women cavorting with demons/the Devil were common images. So if you're going to flog the historical donkey, MALE desire demons would be more appropriate. In fact, men who so cavorted also did so with MALE demons. Sorry guys.:kissing:

Edit: needless to say, I'm talking common imagery in medieval Christian Europe - the closest analogue to Ferelden and DAO in our world. Other times and place, varied.

I guess that's because the majority of Dragon Age players are men. The same goes for CRPGs in general. Gotta cater to the needs of the target audience. It's not personal, Sonny, it's strictly business. Want to have 'almost' nude muscular men all over the place? Simple. Buy CRPGs more often. ;)

I wouldn't say it is sexist but it is unbalanced. I would have liked to have seen more "eye candy" for female players as I did feel it was lacking. The naked women didn't bother me although the part where the desire demon heaves her breasts did make me blush, lol.

What exactly counts as eye candy for women then?

The accidental penis showing off the side of his pants or something?

Is the muscular bodies clad in full armor with handsome faces with blonde hair NOT attracting women already? I'd say the legions of Alistair fangirls would disagree.

Well, there's appealing to your target market, and there's inadvertently making it likely that the target market stays that way rather than growing. At the same time, this game breaks some new ground for the genre in having lots of stuff that appeals to women, so I can't get too bent out of shape about it, especially when there are other games out there that I find so conceptually sexist that I won't even try them. That doesn't mean that it doesn't annoy me that the nature of gravity would ensure that my female character keep tipping forward and doing a faceplant. A sad thing, given that she'd be bound to break one of those little tiny arms trying to stop the fall. I won't put her in splitmail either. It looks ridiculous. The leather bra on the chainmail is bad enough. Actually, I find the leather rogue armor much more irritating than the demons. Am I really supposed to believe that these women would risk their lives for cleavage? They might as well put a bullseye on their chests. ;)
