And I don't want my female pcs to walk like some street thug - and I wouldn't even if I was male. All my female toons look awful when moving, but particularly my dalish elf female and my elven mage female look bloody ridiculous walking like that. I don't even like it on my male toons. They look like damn gorillas.

I noticed this alot when I made my new character. It didn't really bother me the first playthough, but they do run a bit weird when in combat.

Female characters should walk shaking their hips like Shakira or Beyonce, and male ones like, hmm, dunno. Maybe Brad Pitt. Or Johnny Depp.

Male ones should do what? Walk shaking their hips like Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp?

I guess there's something about those actors that we didn't know. ;)

There is much about them you don´t know. I, however, do, hehe....

I was never really bothered by the walk of the female character, personally, even though a lot of people seem to hate it. Running around in chainmail or heavy leather wouldn't easily lend itself to sashaying around, I wouldn't imagine. It's nice to see an "ugly" walk for female warriors every now and then.

I don't like the way females walk because it looks like they are extra's from a low-budget western. Not wanting them to prance around, but walk relatively normal like any person would. Not looking like they secretly have testicles beneath their armor that are starting to chafe. It just looks odd...

Like they should have holstered guns and are walking to a showdown at high noon. I wouldn't mind it so much if they were wearing chaps instead of leather dresses.

Guess it depends on exactly the type of "female" you play.

hell, look at the Pearl. Some of the prostitutes you can hire are "female" companions (and listed as such).

generally, though, I haven't played as a shemale yet. Thus, I'm still trying to figure out why the itchy testes walk for females.

Not read any of the replies, so sorry if I stomp on someone else's point.

As a female gamer I can see your point of view. However, this game is remarkably varied regarding gender and sexual preference. Sure I'd like to see Teagan stripped and cuffed to a bed for my PC amusement (for aiding Redcliffe), but I think the Devs/writers/etc have realised something about women generally. We generally (and I'm not talking about all women here) prefer subtly. Just look at the success of Bann Teagan with the ladies, and all he did was flirt for very little time in the game. Yet he did it very well.

Men are more visual, I've heard it told. Thus Lady of the Forest/Desire demons. The insistence that all the demons are nude women is wrong though, as most demons in the game are genderless and and generally 'scary' looking. Should the Desire Demons have more than one physical form and thus 'gender', perhaps. Or maybe they are designed to hit the Templars the most, while the Pride demons take care of the Mages.

Compared to when I started gaming this is nothing. At least there is the recognition that women play games now. There are romance options available that make us weep and write dubious fanfiction.

Bioware have always been rather forward thinking regarding women gamers. Now the female market is catching up in this area, we can only hope for improvement.

I do believe this is one of the least sexist games I've played. They even bring up sexism at points (between the racism) and you're allowed to scoff and be dismissive at the people portraying the ideals. Hell a game that depicts a rape story and lets you enact your vengeance is brilliant. Yet the character involved mostly with the rape hides it as many women do, to keep the peace. There is no resolution like very many rapes that happen in RL.

The issue I had with sexism in this game had little to do with nude demons, but with the ending. If you are female and romancing Alistair, you cannot sacrifice yourself, he does. You could say this was because he loved you so very much, but we've seen him dumping any non-Cousland lady if he takes the throne, so hmm. Why can we not give our lives so he can live? It's what my PC wanted to do.

This is what we must scowl at, the idea that women cannot decide and sacrifice, not some oddly drawn woman half covered in vines.

I must've missed something here, but what does personal offense at nudity in a videogame have to do with diet?

Perhaps because that was how the demon originally appeared to Connor and since it is still connected to Connor it is somewhat bound by his perception?

I don't think Connor is even a pubescent teenager, so I don't see him fantasizing about naked adult women yet.. he probably still thinks they have cooties or something. Besides, the Desire Demon is not limited to sexual desires. Case in point is Connor himself who, it's strongly implied, got possessed by the Desire Demon because of his strong desire to save his father/Eamon.. which, it could be argued, he accomplished (it's reasonable to assume the Arl survived the poisoning because of the demon, even if he remained comatose afterward; the demon prevented Eamon from dying, but didn't say anything about waking him up).

The templar in the Circle was also possessed by a Desire Demon, not out of a sexual desire, but to live a happy family life, with a loving wife and kids.

Have seen a couple of good points...

Personally, I guess that the Lust Demons are partially nude because of the link to the Succubus.

Must say, they aren't *that* attractive ... and still, it is still pixels... on television you see often more partial nudity per hour then in this game... bar for a few parts in the game.

Also... an Incubus?... Watch out you don't get the Pope against you... the genitilia of the male statues in the Vatican got cut by the Pope in the 1400's for 'potentially bringing lustfull thoughts to the guards'...

*smiles*

Personally, I think your girlfriend got offended too easily... games use existing and/or former thoughts/visions about things to allow people to easier perceive it. Same about sexuality. Morally wrong those days? Sometimes for sure... sometimes it is a matter of perception... and sometimes it is a foul cry.

Those who wish to read up on the female/male gamer percentages - google is your friend. Just type in "female gamer statistics" and you'll get an education. And perhaps it will compel you to leave 1989 and step up to us in 2010.

As far as equality is concerned, we women have fought an uphill battle for centuries. It's not easy to wipe out stereotypes, even though in the middle ages countless women lost their lives in a most brutal fashion because of suspicion of consorting with an incubus/demon/devil of the male kind.

Not that I don't agree that there are more and more women gamers playing every day, but there is a fact that people just don't factor in on all this.

1st. whenever a Poll is taken, it only gives a result from the Few people who actually respond to it. It will never be even remotely accurate, as there is no way to survey 100% of the worlds population.
If they only Poll 1,000 people, or even 10,000, you are getting very limited results.
Then say, BioWare posts a poll on these forums asking who are male and who are female. The only answer you will receive are from the people who respond to the poll and/or put the correct sex down when they create a profile, if they just go by profiles created for this site. And it also only takes into account people who actually register for this site, which in itself is a minority of the number of people who actually play the game. Out of everybody I know who plays video games, I am the only one who ever go to game forums.

2nd. As I stated before, and if you do enough reading you will find this out also. Most of those female gamers are casual game gamers. Yes there are more women playing games than ever, but a majority of them don't tend to play the same games as the men do. BUT, the ones who do play the same games as men, tend to excell at those games.

3rd. This one is just going off of my own experiences with women over the last 30+years.
I personally believe that Women are more likely to answer online polls than men are. Unless the poll is about something the guy actually cares about, he will most likely not answer it, or lie on his answers.
Women on the other hand, tend to be more opinionated and want to share those opinions with everybody.
That is all just my own personal observations and do not reflect any scientific data, so take it for what it is. My own personal opinion.

As I said, there are more women gamers than ever, and it is a good thing. But they tend to play casual games more than any other type of game. DA:O is not a casual game.

Alistair doesn't let the female PC sacrifice herself for the same reason men in RL don't trust women with things like the remote, we aren't comfortable trusting you to deal with the important stuff ;) j/k

hmm. desire demon....tied into the ideas of sirens, succubus etc and the countless other myths revolving around lust, which have almost always been represented by a female like form. In that light I see nothing remotely sexist or disturbing by the desire demon, I see a mythological arch type. there are just as many male demons in the game as well, but I suppose because they are not pantless nobody going to throw a fit about it.

As for the lady of the Forrest: she represents raw nature which has always been a powerful female figure in most cultures, she's a Gaia figure, and nothing more.

I just can't wrap my head around how my own gender has those that just can't get over themselves and try to find " sexism" in anything. To be blunt that phrase has been so abused in the last few decades that most just have totally abused it to the point of forcing it into phrases to express a " personal" dislike of something, without really even attempting to look into it in any other light.

Thank you...

As for the Lady of the Forest, Maiden and Beast. The male was the wolf and the female was the Lady form. If anything, the Lady wore no clothes because there was no point in her wearing clothes. She wasn't a human maiden needing to hide behind some sense of false modesty.  People need to grow up and realize that not all nudity is about titilation.

While I could go into all sorts of reasons for this asinine whining about women being nude as evil, I'll just simplify and blame the damn Puritans...

You would be wrong on this count, I spent years on NWN1 server which if anything has far more complex character "building" than DA has.. 75% of players on there were real women they understood what makes great builds far more than male players..

Cprgs have a high percentage of women gamers more than other genres...

Even FPS league games, since my old clan back in quake2 days consisted of 4 women, 4 men and that was back in 1999.

No i dont have any stats or proof, this from experience.

that is more of an opinion and kind of contradiction.  If 75 percent are female and decide that a certain build is best, how can you say that they know it better then the males... actually there is sexism right there in your post >_>

but anyhow, from my experience there is indeed a growing number of female gamers, though most still tend to play casual games, the ones who are more into it do indeed play mostly Rpg's or FPS, the third one being fighters ...I think.... Character creation seem to be more used by females indeed, if they are better in it is just an opinion, but IF i'm correct The Sims, which is casual game with a character creation as I understand, is played mostly by girls too right? seems to me that female players tend to enjoy such features more then male players, that said it still does not have anything with knwoing better game models, and for all you know a female designer created the Desire Demon and the Lady of the forest....

Also IMHO, female gamers seem often better to me then most male, maybe because they had to prove their worth as most online gaming guys are complete jacksasses

Well, indeed, if pc player was a women, desire demon should be a incubus, not a succubus..but from other point of view, man are more corruptable to desire than women (traditionally) and that could explain demon prefer that body..

Anyway, speaking about sexism in this game is irrational, since you can see a war machime like Sir Cautherien (the woman with Logain), or when you can see homosexual relations.

Well there is also the possibility that the player character is gay, and so the demon would be the same sex than him/her.

So I think they've just gone for what is reflecting the "standard" DAO character which is the male depicted in all the DAO promotional medias.

That does not mean they could not have place some male looking demon here and there at other encounter opportunities. (still requiring to model, texture and animate another creature just for that which I guess was not a priority during the dev phase)

Most wardens are heterosexual and male, as Alistair tells us. So most demons need to be female if they want to seduce them.

Games are mostly developed and written by men and men are usually (with rare exceptions) sexist to some degree and combine their lack of interest in understanding women with a ready willingness to objectify them.

In other news, water is wet and the sky is blue.
