So, I recently had to reinstall my DA:O and since it was the perfect time, I changed some mods around to get some more options for hairstyles and colours etc.
Of course, this leaves all my previous characters with shiny white hair. Is there any way to edit my character's facemorph in order to adjust the colour? Or is the only option creating a new facemorph and overriding it in the savegame? (or living with the white shininess, I suppose)

Did you create your characters with the Character Creator? Or did you create them with the toolset? If with the toolset, there is a fairly easy fix.
If with the character creator, there is a mod for replacing GW appearance 'in game'
Or there is always the option to reinstall the mod with the colors that you had before

If the toolset is not installed - I think the FaceReplacer could help you to fix it.
You can edit single features like the hair color and enter a new value.

It's probably the only option regardless, as the toolset (and the standalone GFF editor) won't handle save files over a certain size. Trying to edit a mid- to late-game save with the toolset will just result in it crashing or giving an out of memory error. You can (potentially) fix that issue though by patching the EXE to be Large Address Aware (LAA). A non-LAA app is capped at 2GB of RAM. However, a LAA app can use 4GB in 64bit Windows.
As an example, the untouched GFF editor gives an out of memory error trying to open a 16MB Awakening save once it hits around 1.7GB of RAM usage. Once LAA patched, it will open it fine, using around 3.1GB of RAM. If you are interested, you can download a patcher here - http://ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php. Note that virtually any 32bit executable can be patched in this way.
That being said, the face replacer is probably the best route for this specific sort of thing, but this is a potentially useful tip for anyone wanting to otherwise edit a large save file.
