I don't know if our PC will be an inquisitor or not (because if you choose mage class... mage inquisitor...), and if he will, I have no idea if he will have some influence over the templars.

But assuming he will have some military power, here's my suggestion:

You return from a quest, you look at your table and you see a letter. You open up:

"Sir,

we suspect that an apostate family is in Val Royeaux, what should we do?

Templar Gaider
 "

And we have some options:
- Do nothing
- Arrest them
- Kill them all!!! WITH FIRE!!!

And you choose the 3rd option

Then you go do something else

When you return, there is another letter:

"Sir,

it appears that they weren't apostates, and maybe you should close the doors, my fellow comrades want revenge...

Templar Gaider"

yup, something like this.

What do you think?

PS: Devs, if you are seeing this, don't forget EASTER EGGS! Funny Easter eggs! =]

I think it's a good idea, it worked well in Alpha Protocol.

You may as well, skip the options since those options literally affect nothing to the replaying letter..

I like the idea of being able to reply to letters, but not for something as important as your example.

This was one of my favorite aspects of Alpha Protocol. It would work perfectly in Dragon Age if there would be one answer per tone symbol (plus maybe an occasional flirting option). It's a good way to build relationships and add depth to NPCs that aren't necessarily companions. It's also cheap because no voice acting is required.

Actually, this might be a superior way to introduce some quest sequences.  Well, superior to what they did in DA2 where these a priori "rumors" would arrive in your journal and float there in limbo until you triggered something else which let you go access the quest.  That method was . . . bad.

I won't say that introducing such quests via letters would be the *best* method, but it might provide some interesting variety.  And it wouldn't be AS bad as the magical appearing nonexistant rumors thing.

Yes, my example is bad, but the important is the idea.

All for that. More personal input by the player in the way a quest can be handled. No cinematics required so less zots.

I like the idea of the Inquisitor running the new inquisition from a mountaintop fortress through replying to letters. It would help the level of customization in the game and give a feeling of true authority.

I like the idea, would be cool if they could incorporate a way for the options to do something to the world too, for example, if we choose the "kill them with fire" option the next time we go to town we might see a burning building or something.

in that case you do not kill with fire. You purify with fire.

I like this idea very much, and hope that Bioware can implement it.
