When you're talking to Hayder and asking he tells you about Isabella's past, he mentions that she released valuable slaves. Okay, no problems so far. However, when he continues he mentions that each one was worth 100 sovereigns a head! Were these slaves immortal god like beings that **** Lyrium? Even Feynriel, who had mage blood, only fetched a price of 3:/ Was it a mistranslation or are Sovereigns cheaper when not used in gameplay? Cause I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine the reaction people got whent they received even just half of one.

Always found this strange. That's way too much money. I just head-canon that Hayder was referring to some other currency, or just likes to exaggerate.

What other currency could there be? Even Orzammar uses sovereigns.

Well, a gold coin is a gold coin, no matter where it was made. They are pretty interchangable, so we did not necessarily pay with Sovereigns in Orzammar. I wouldn't take this as a sign we have a unified currency in Thedas.
Maybe in northern Thedas a Sovereign is a lighter coin. I once had to take a course on monetary history. I don't remember much, but things like this happen. But probably a Sovereign is supposed to be a Sovereign (comparable to the english coin), I'm just speculating to make sense of this line.

Hmm, good point:) Is it possible Hayder's just an idiot and miscounted/exaggerated? Still, I'd like to go to the nothlands one day. They must give sovereigns away or something.

It becomes even stranger when we compare their price to Fenris, who only goes for five sovereign if you sell him to Danarius. What's up with that?

exaggeration at its finest. I took it to mean they were valuable...but dont he really meant 100 soverigns literally.

then again....it is DAII. so um...sure?

Numbers probably wasn't Hayder's strong suit.

Another thing: How did Isabela free those slaves? Did she kill everyone aboard the ship and sail it herself to Kirkwall? Going back to Fereldan wasn't an option.

Sneaking in, taking out the guards, freeing the slaves and letting them take over the ship seems like a viable course of action to me.

Hayder doesn't strike me as overly burdened with grey matter anyway.  But what he probably meant to say was 'the entire lot of them were worth at least 100 sovereigns', only it came out the way it did.  Maybe a funny error on the part of the writers, maybe Hayder is just that stupid, or maybe it was an error in the reading of the line and they decided to keep it (you know like when a show ad libs a blooper and it ends up being part of the finished product).  Or maybe Bioware's continuity guys were asleep at the helm.

Kind of like they were for 90% of the post Landsmeet content in DAO...Posted Image

Last thing: Why doesn't she just take Catillon's ship after we kill him? She gives some half arsed excuse about him "Not being able to spread that she took it from him", but honestly who gives two wicks? It's a ship, which she's been asking about for 6 years now.

Better yet, why the heck is she so scared of Castillon? She saw me destroy a rock wraith in the Deep roads and face worst things than a guy with a funny accent. I could understand her maybe not having Rival!Hawke's help, but I was 90 plus friendship with her so it just made her look odd.

Maybe the whole ship thing was...Isabela being Isabela? Really, I didn't question that part, since if you question her she'll say that it has more 'flair' to blackmail him into taking it and leaving him alive. He would have to sign over the papers to make the transaction legal, and maybe Isabela has learned enough by then to know she just wants Castillion (and any of his other cronies gunning for her) to back off. Even killing him may not guarantee she'll be safe, since he has ties to the Felicisima Armada (Whatever that is) or the Crows maybe. No telling.

This way, she's assured he'll be too embarrassed to press the issue after he leaves that warehouse.

And yet killing him seems to not ****** her off too much (On friendship at least) and she never asks if Castillon's death makes things worse:/ Really, she seems to be afraid of Castillon himself, which makes no sense since at that point she's probably fought Varterral's and abominations. The fact that his connections makes things hard for her never seems to be brought up.

I dunno...when things don't make sense to me in stories I just say "It's in the script" *wink wink* or I have to make up something in my head that does make sense knowing the characterization of the characters.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!Posted Image

Oh well, I guess I'll just bang my head and ignore the annoying tidbits.

I don't think the writers ever worked out how much 1 sovereign is worth in terms of ordinary peoples wages and whatnot. Money only exists as a gameplay mechanic, really. Rewards given to, and prices extracted from, the player have more to do with how much money they're expected to have at that sort of time than anything else.

But the slave valuation is definitely one of the more "out there" prices given. Though I more resent Alistair wanting to give his sister 15 sovereigns, because that's my money he's dealling with.

Yeah, it seems that rewards to give away ratio is extremely stilted at times. Even if you fight through an army of demon's, the most you'll get is about 3 gold. On the other hand, giving food to some orphans costs 4-5 and it barely covers it:/

On the other hand, there are parts of the game where people marvel at being given even a few silvers and 1 sovereign is treated as a fortune by peasents.

In DA:O, Zevran says that he was purchased for 7 sovereigns and says that it was a good price for a skinny child. We get 8 sovereigns for putting a piece of jewelry on an altar on Sundermount, which will fund four luxury trips to the Blooming Rose. A month-long expedition can be mounted for 150 sovereigns, but a house in Hightown can be purchased for 50. The mage staff Cold-Blooded costs 113 sovereigns. The game world is remarkably consistent in many respects and seems to exist independently beyond the protagonist's experience, but the economy of Thedas is based solely on the protagonist's bank balance.

Let's not forget those 15 sovereign picks:/ By the maker, it would've been easier to give them my spare weapons so they could mine with that. Those picks must've been made by unobtanium or something.

My apologies for nit-picking, but Zevran was bought for three sovereigns, not seven. He was bought at the age of seven, though.

Ah, I knew that the seven figured in there somewhere. It's been a while since I played Origins.

So only 2 sovereigns below Fenris. Wow, Danarius really is a bastard; he even has the gall to pay you cheap for an awesome fighter.

You mean other than the fact that he's a despicable human being? You also can't forget the fact that he has the FEMALE walking animation. It just gives him an overall creepy vibe.
