hello. This my first time as a poster and I was wondering about Dumat...is he alive and possibly masterminding the  events of the story?

I mean the Tevinter Magister coreypheus was able to invoke his power so are they building up his come back?

Is there any evidence to suggest he is still out there.....possibly in a weakened state like Voldermort from Harry Potter

I am pretty sure that Dumat was the name of one of the Elder dragons that were corrupted. I think he was the demon lord of the first blight, though don't quote me on that as its been awhile. The Tevinters worshipped the dragons as Gods, so the reference to him being a God might be nothing more than a superstitious belief.
However, the lore to my knowledge doesn't explicitly verify the proof of any gods, not even the maker.

It's possible someone did the Dark Ritual before the slaying of Dumat way back when.

If Old God Babies are immortal or get reincarnated or something then yes, it could be possible I suppose.

He was meant to have been killed during the first blight by the first Grey Wardens.
Of coarse, that's just what we were told.

people have put forward the theory on another site that Flemeth is Dumat,s current incarnation.......However would it really be a woman? since if you do the dark ritual Dumat,s fellow god is incarnated into a male body because Urtehmiel was male so in theory their human forms share their orgional gender

Maybe Flemeth is an old god baby?

Unless Flemeth's body-snatching technique is something she used on an OGB like nu-Dumat to gain her Dragon form and immortality, and she's just shape-shifted into what we know as Flemeth.

That would explain why Yavana called the ritual a "gift." She doesn't snatch her daughters, she raises each of her daughters to themselves snatch another Old God. Which would mean interesting complications for Morrigan in relation to her little one if you did the ritual. Would Morrigan even have the heart to do it? And it's Flemeth's plan anyway, and if there's one thing Morrigan likes doing it's contradicting her mother's plans.

Rampant speculation, ho!

Aren't the Old Gods just special High Dragons? All of the High Dragons are female.

But Dumat was killed during the First Blight by the First of the Grey Wardens. The Blight was so devastating because they couldn't kill him because they had no idea only those with the taint could kill it for good. I don't think it's possible Dumat is still alive and I don't think it's possible the DR was conducted, because as Alistair says, they are the only Grey Wardens to have survived the killing of the Archdemon.

Well, to be honest I doubt Alistair is the master of ancient Warden lore dating back to the first blight, and I doubt there is anyone alive that is as such, save some Spirits/Demons and maybe Flemeth or a similar immortal.

Whomever performed the first Dark Ritual probably created it or had a hand in it's creation, and might have been clever enough to fake their deaths as a result although we're really moving into evidence-less fanfiction territory at that point. Still, it'd stand to reason that if you had a reason to save the Old God's spirit, then you probably had plans for the Old God's spirit, so who knows what really could have happened.

But we dont know who killed Dumat what if this warden was female and performed the spell and fled. The whole first blight is vague on who killed him

But the Grey Wardens were apparently suspicious about why they survived. If the DR has been conducted, (successfully), before, I imagine the Grey Warden must have fled immediately afterwards to never be seen again.

And thus presumed dead.

I would only guess at it being Dumat just because it is so long ago that the evidence of what happened would be murkiest, but to put it in perspective, there are no Wardens are alive that KNEW any Wardens alive that knew our famous Elf who slew the most recent arch-demon. They're always centuries apart, so it's really an unreliable narrator type of deal.

Maybe the Gray Warden Commanders of the time felt that there was no place in the world for someone to hold the power of an Old God, and forbid knowledge of the Dark Ritual ever be spread or heard of again to protect the world from the risks of it falling into the wrong hands.

But like you said the first Wardens did not know how to kill dumat so if this warden conducted the dark ritual in secret then killed Dumat and took his essence into herself. They may not have questioned it because it was the first blight they may not have known what would happen at its death

now 4 blights on they know a warden is meant to die with AD so now days they would be like "hang on". but in ancient days they might not have known.only when the slayer of the second risen God died they might of realisec "OH,"
