This better not be the case... The one thing Bioware let us choose our stance on in DA2...

I think we may do at the start and then break away and choose our own path

They are not going to tell you.

But I seriously, seriously doubt it.

I doubt that, as bioware is already well aware that their fanbase is opiniated on this subject and that a forced start is something that could make the player throw the game away before we get to the branch.

I certainly would never play a characther who ever thought in any manner or form that the templars were right.

Bioware has promised we will not be forced to be pro-chantry. I am sure that pro-mage and pro-templar is included in that.

They did everything they could to make us be pro-templar in DA2, and it still didn't work in most cases. They didn't seem to be too happy about that. So the question is, are they, as with the ME3 team's response to the ending hatred, going to double down on their "artistic integrity", or are they going to, like Chris Avellone tends to suggest, let us choose? We'll see. I actually have more confidence in this team, storywise, than the ME team, oddly. For all DA2's issues, the overall storytelling was stronger, and while the ending had problems, it wasn't the complete disaster ME3s was.  The DLCs were a vast improvement on the game, and the team, especially Laidlaw, seemed to learn and understand many of the criticisms.

I do think it's acceptable for us to be working for inquisition at the start, mind you, so long as we are allowed to have opinions and make choices. I mean, I didn't get to choose whether to be a Gray Warden either, and that was ok.

Well, in DA2, Hawke starts out as being pretty obviously anti-Templar due to his family background. He's not keen to go to Kirkwall, and he's wary/defensive towards Wesley, no matter what dialogues you pick.

I don't think so. I think we were supposed to investigate who or what is behind the recent events with the mages/templars. So basically neutral. I wouldn't be surprsied though that you can show more sympathy to either side as you go along.

That can be discussed. He is wary towards Wesley because he is a personal threat. Hawke can still be pro-templar, just be pressured by family ties to be a hyprocrite and say one thing while he has to do something else.

If anything I say that Hawke is forced to be neutral at the start, as you can only express concern on a personal level.

I still thinks that this is a bad premise, and the reasons that I think that I won't enjoy da:i much.

I will much rather have human fallacy and opportunisme behind the whole thing, than some boring big bad. But, oh well, I guess, I'll still give it a chance.

The "inquisition" belonges to our history. If I have to be "the inquisitor" wielding my sadist side to weed out what religion calls sin then no I will have nothing to do with this game.

Don`t think we will be forced to be pro-templar. We are forced to play human, though. And your sex won`t matter since everyone will be bisexual again. I am guessing we might get to pick sides in the war. Something like that.

Doubtful. For a game that BioWare at least pretends is all about choice, it doesn't make sense to be forced into a single role. If that's the case, you might as well start with a 100% fixed protagonist as well.

Considering the Templars are insane warrior monks dependent on a magical substance to keep sentience, not really altogether interested in helping them.

I think it'll be more pro-Chantry than pro-templar as it'll be possible to start out as a mage which wouldn't make sense if you supported the templars

I believe the answer to that question is rather simple when you think about it.
Considering that the Templars have broken off and comitted themselves to a universal declaration of war against the mages. It all boils down to another question:

Will they allow us to play mages?

I don't see that changing. And if we can play a mage, it is highly unlikely we can start off aligned to a faction that has dedicated itself to hunting down and killing mages.

Why would they do that? It's silly. Are we supposed to be completely self loathing if we play as mages? Are we supposed to be Kellis?

The real question is if there will be a neutral option.

Templars have rebelled.

The Inquisitors are not part of the Templars.

..why would they be pro Templar?

You can side with the templars in DA2 as a mage even though they are trying to annul the entire Circle. In fact, the game encouraged you to do so by making nearly every mage in the game a sociopath. And they reward you with Viscount of Kirkwall for doing so.

No that would be insane and a possible killing blow to bioware
