A silly question - what does a Ride skill exactly do?

Well, the in-game description is VERY general and the entry in NWN wiki is no better.
I'd like to know exactly what a Ride skill improves for the player - speed? Something else?

Thanks. :P

i think this depends on the module.

For the most part, the ride skill is a hook that builders can use or ignore when they set up their mods. Most ignore it, honestly.

It was meant to allow mounted combat and to affect both the PCs combat ability and, if I remember right, concentration checks for casting spells.

Certain prestige classes have a requirement of a certain ride skill (usually only 1 point, I think), but otherwise make poor use of it.

As Henesua says, it's really up to the builder how to use it and how important to make it. Like Persuade and Intimidate. Some of the best mods, IMO, make exceptional use of these skills. Most don't.

Ah, I see. Well, thanks for explanation.

Edit: Just found out that it's not completely useless - a Mounted Combat feat performs skill checks for it to increase PC's Armor class.

In my method if you have a poor riding skill your horse may bolt or throw you in combat.

I'm fairly sure that it improves your combat modifier, although like most skills, it's largely useless unless the module builder makes good use of it.
