well I got the same with Rachni and MP now.
Problem with Rachni is the idea of non-humanoid player models. Even Volus have a human-like skeleton, if only sized down.
The reason why people don't want Protheans is three, straw-logic reasons.
1) Protheans are either "special", or "so not special they got curbstomped by Reapers".
2) Javik saying he's the last Prothean, somehow it would lessen his character and/or the DLC
3) New Protheans would need a massive explaination by Bioware.
Counterarguments:
1) The whole point of Ilos in ME1 was that no, the Protheans aren't special in lore, just the last in the long line of victims of the Reapers. Last time I considered Protheans to be even remotely relevant to lore is either the Collectors, or the Crucible which, again, is from a long chain of Reapings. On the other hand, they are quite powerful Biotics and Soldiers, able to learn simply from touch, not to mention able to circumvent the Citadel rule on Cloning (I said enough about that last time). The potential, to have troops that wouldn't rebel like cloned Rachni did on Noveria, who hate the Reapers and who can learn instantly via touch has to be a HUGE advantadge, (sidenote, I seem to remember something about dinosaurs being cloned for mounts for Krogan soldiers... Maybe I'm going insane or it was a dream, but I have a feeling it's ingame. Anyway, this shows that they DO WANT to use cloning for shock troopers). Also, if they're from stasis pods, they'd likely be naturally inclined to fight Reapers, that's all they'd ever have known.
2) Firstly, I dont have the DLC, I watched all of Javik's lines and storyline, but don't consider it an "essential" part of ME3 for me. That said, they could easily add in lines with DLC into Javik's story, maybe even add in a scene in Singleplayer DLC where Javik happens upon a troupe of cloned/revitalised Protheans, but decided to stay with Shepard because he feels he can do more against the Reapers with Shepard, who managed to take down various Reapers, than with a group of fake/rookie Protheans. Of course, this should change the shard-activated ending to Javik looking forward to having some Protheans to return to after Earth. Maybe add some war assets, Prothean Squad, or something.
3) Again, either cloning or finding a caché of pods. Remember, you can bring a real Prothean into the Citadel, and everyone assumes it's genetically modified. Even after, he causes a local stirr, but I think the Galaxy doesn't take too much notice (correct me if I'm wrong). If we're talking about genetically modified Prothean-alikes, then there's no reason to make them public if they're bred specifically to be warriors. If they're true Protheans who woke from stasis, there's no gurantee they'd want to intigrate into a society they no longer recognise instead of devoting their whole being into destroying the enemy they knew for so long... Aka, Reapers, exactly like Javik.
4) Lore is flexible. Either ride atop of it, or be crushed beneath it.
