What determines when a Praetorian can shoot through a wall and/or cover?

I started playing again recently and I love the Collectors. But I've noticed Praetorians and their gazer beams can shoot through a solid wall (I.E through one of Hazard Ghost buildings) or sometimes through light cover. I was hosting my solo, so I know it wasn't lag. The Praetorian hadn't even seen me yet but his eye beams of death shot straight through wall. I've seen this happen infrequently on other maps/to other people and I just want to know is there some way to tell when it can do this?

I figured he charges up his laser to do it or something. I'm just wondering of there's a visual cue.

It appears to me that if you are "in" cover it can't shoot through the wall to hurt you but if you are just standing behind a wall it can hit you. That appears to me to be the common thread of whan I am and am not hit. Makes no sense.

Luck, usually

(As well as latency and how close you are to the actual graphic - the AoE is bigger than that)

Hmmm, I was doing a hack and then all the sudden I saw blue beams go through the wall and miss me. I didn't think anything of it until my shields were down, then next thing I knew I was dead. I wasn't in cover.

Is this intended? I know for sure it wasn't latency.

The Praetorian can shoot through cover on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and for a period of about 20 minutes on Saturday morning. Unless Jupiter is in the second house, in which case between 8 and 11:30 PM EST Sunday it also can.

I believe Praetorian can't pierce cover at all. Two things produce the illusion of it doing so. The first is his great height when firing - so the low cover doesn't help when Praetorian is too close or on elevated position. The second thing is AoE. The beam passing too close damages you even if you are not hit.

Soft cover won't help you against pewpewlaazursofdoom, hard cover will.

Hide behind cover and it cannot hurt you with that lazor. For some reason, if you just stand behind cover attacks will still hit you even if they shouldn't. Also, the minute the Praetorian begins to shoot dodge left or right. That beam works in a similar fashion to the Rannoch Reaper battle.

Rannoch reaper battle was annoying.  Like a Mario Brothers boss level (circa 1991).

Whether you use soft cover or normal cover. If you just soft cover, he shreds you. If you actually get in cover, you don't take damage.

Yeah soft cover doesn't seem to work. Don't know why they would give praetorian lasers an AOE effect, they already tear through health and shield gate.

Based on my unscientific observations, I agree. If you can shoot at it, it can hit you.

That is definitely NOT the case. I've sometimes been in cover against a solid full-size wall, not even at the edge/corner of if, and still got hit... sometimes when the laser didn't even penetrate the wall <_<

This has been my experience too.  It's the same as Banshee Warps and Geth Rockets that sometimes hit you when you're behind cover but not "in cover."  The Praetorian Lasers are a little more visually noticeable though, especially when they go over the top of low cover.

Agreed, I nearly rage quitted, but seeing that Reaper die was SOOOOO worth it.

It just depends if they feel like shooting through the wall or not.
