1.human origin "human noble was by far the best origin story in my book. A compelling story with the most options available to you throughout the game.

2.city elf " Although I hated what they did with the Elf's in this game. This was by far the best and most compelling origin story for the elves

3.dwarf common "Out of the dwarf origins this was the best one. When you start at the bottom of the pile there is no place but up to go.

4.dalish elf "I normally like playing elf characters but they really made elves lame in this game. I admit in other games I never like their arrogant attitude but I would take that over making them pansy slaves any day even the Dalish ones are weak.

5.mage "Ok origin just not very fun to play."

6.dwarf noble "In all I hated what they did with the dwarfs in this game but not being able to be king really made it worse. You really should have been able to be king after exposing your brother and then lead the battle against the blight.

I certainly don't hate the dwarven commoner origin.

It's just that it pales in comparison to some of the other origins. First and foremost my favourite origin, dwarven noble. You in the midst of such a glory-seeking and corrupt society, death, intrigue, betrayal. I knew nothing about the origin in advance, so I was struck down but my brother's betrayal, I didn't see it coming at all. Plus the sweeet Gorim romance, so forbidden-love cliché like, that just made it for me.

Plus, I actually belong to the people who really loved the Daelish Origin. I was pretty short, admittedly, but if you allow yourself to get involved with it, you can get right immersed. Having to say goodbye to all your loved ones, burying you dear friend, I found this to be very touching and the goodbye scene plus the line "I want to stay for Tamlen's burial" made it a really emotional moment for me.

The Dalish Origin is awesome just because of the darkspawn origin hints with the mirror. Man, I loved that mirror.

Dwarven commoner was my first playthrough and personal favorite. It just chafed me that I was pretty much forced into siding with Bhelen as a result. My Dwarven comoner did it, but he did it with a held nose and clenched teeth. Metaphorically, of course. Wouldn't do to let Bhelen know how much I despised him.

Edit: It was human noble that bored me to tears.  Why am I suposed to care about these idiots?

I guess it all depends on the whom you identify with in each origins. Those who root for the underdog, can't help but place the dwarven commoner origins high on their list, those who can bond with the clan mentality would like the Dalish elves. While human noble, is probably the most neutral tries to play on your sense of betrayal and vengeance against your duty to your family and fellow men as a noble.

Personally I liked the City elf origins the most as I thought that the events that leads up to your recruitment made the most sense in both why Duncan would want to recruit you as well as why you would want to join the wardens. That and that its the origins that provoked the strongest feeling in me what with the rape and general kicking the elf when he's down thing.

Dwarven noble / commoner would be next on my list as a tie only because of Gorrim and Leske. While the human noble takes 3rd spot for me only because of Mum and Iona. :)

The Dalish origin has a ton of interesting background to reveal; the only problem is you're going around studying statues and reading scrolls and participating in storytelling while in theory you're supposed to be traipsing right back to that cave to find your missing friend. You have to assumed plot urgency for background reveals.

Dwarf commoner was my first (and now rerolled current) character, though I'm only now about to go through Orz again from this perspective. I'm planning to side with Bhelen because my dwarf noble would never do so (and I'm curious to see if you find out that Rica's hunted noble was Bhelen, as you discover at the start of the dwarf noble origin?).

Did you mean that your first character was a dwarf noble? And as for your personal question, all is revealed in due time. Patience, grasshopper! =p

Do they? I haven't done dwarf commoner yet. I'm on a Dalish playthrough - not totally wowed, but I did like seeing some interesting cultural facts pop up (like how the Dalish plant saplings at the graves of the dead - err, or something to that effect).

No, dwarf commoner was my first character.  After many rerolls I've gone back to him for the (hopeful) honor of my first game completion. :)

For a while I did prefer dwarf noble, as with the glitch (on the PC version) with DLC items being confiscated along with everything else, I'd just sell it all off at the start (since coin was not confiscated) and enjoy found items a bit more.  And I've only done Orzammar with a dwarf noble (which definitely leans towards siding with Lord Harrowmont) so siding with Bhelen as a commoner will be a nice counterpoint.

And yes, my question about Rica was answered within seconds of posting in the game.

Yeah I haven't done any of the romances where I have a dwarf PC and romance a human (Alistair, Leiliana, or Morrigan). How does that look when a dwarf kisses a human? What is the cutscene like (is there a step stool involved)? I feel really silly and awkward for asking that.

Yeah, there's an invisible stepstool so they are both face to face for the kiss scenes.

I think Dwarf Commoner is a cool beginning. It hints you to be a surviver!!! But it's a verry sad beginning!!!

I liked them all. But my least favorite beginning is the Mages. I hate replaying that one for some reason.

My bad, misread what you typed!

For a while I did prefer dwarf noble, as with the glitch (on the PC version) with DLC items being confiscated along with everything else, I'd just sell it all off at the start (since coin was not confiscated) and enjoy found items a bit more.

On my second noble playthrough, I made the Shaperate pay me gold for helping him (because of the coin not being confiscated issue you pointed out) and when I talked to Gorim afterwards, he confronted me and asked why I took the money because "I didn't need it." I was thrown fo a loop and went, "um ... um ... " None of the dialgoue options fit so I just told him it amused me and he dropped it. I couldn't believe how wealthy I was by selling that letter for 25 gold so by the time I was in Lothering, I was giving money away to any beggar that asked. "Oh, you need a donation? No problem! Here's five gold!" "Oh, you lost your mom? No sweat! Here's 10 silver to get an ice cream!" =p

And I've only done Orzammar with a dwarf noble (which definitely leans towards siding with Lord Harrowmont) so siding with Bhelen as a commoner will be a nice counterpoint.

The only thing that disappointed me in the commoner origin was that I was trying to listen for any information on the middle child since that was obviously the PC role for dwarf noble, but didn't really hear anything.  Maybe I didn't trigger the right choices. I was thrilled when I realized where the commoner's house was. On the dwarf noble playthrough, it was empty where we had to enter for the Jarvia quest line. At the time, I wondered why it was abandoned. There were dwarves sleeping in the street and this room wasn't being used? Ah haaa, that was the placeholder room for the dwarf commoner origin.

I liked the Dalish. You get a feeling of belonging. They care about you, and only because it will save your life are they willing to see you go.

Done mage, Dalish, Human Noble, liked them all. They all have diffrent minus or plus. And each colors the world a diffrent tint.

I finished the Dwarf Commoner origin last night and quite liked it. There is a satisfaction to proving your worth, especially in front of those who see you as nothing simply because of your birth.

There is definitely merit in all the origins though some are more compelling than others. Dwarf Noble, Human Noble and City Elf are probably the most character building, while the others provide decent motivation for joining the Grey Wardens.

me being a dwarf and romanceing them just seems laughable, especially in the cutscenes when your about 2 foot shorter lol

same with the elf really, the best character romance options are human and i much prefer it to be a same race romance, a human and a dwarf i can't take seriously.

each to their own i suppose but i much prefer human and its the only race i use on DA.

hey thats racist!

or something

no its not, its heightist lol

seriously though i find it weird, a human and a dwarf? particularly a male dwarf, a male human and a female dwarf isn't as noticeable as the female dwarf could be mistaken as a short ugly human woman lol

i just dislike the appearence of a dwarf-human relationship and besides i like my character to be the tall male human lol

My male human noble PC is a perfect match with Leliana or Morrigan, but a dwarf....  just doesn't work for me personally

I finally checked out the two dwarf origins. They were both very solid. I just have no interest i playing through the game as a dwarf. But the consensus I've heard seems to be that the dwarf commoner is awesome. And I agree. It was definitely better than the dalish elf (my least favorite, as it seemed to tie less into the main story than any of the others).

The Dalish origin ties less into the main story because they are the furthest removed, by choice, from Humans. The Dwarves are supposed to be that way, but they do have traders on the surface that keep new money, and goods coming in, not to mention booming Lyrium trade with the Chantry.

Favourite thing about the commoner origin, is the bit where Duncan points out that the commoner is the dwarves champion :)

Which is why it is funny when you kick arse in the provings again when you come back
