Andraste had several sons but they are all believed to have died in the civil wars that tore the south apart after Maferath's death. There have been many claimants in the centuries since, saying they were descendants of survivors, but the Chantry has disavowed each of them. To date there are no known legitimate heirs to Andraste's blood.

Ref.

I'm fascinated by the Andraste figure. Something I'd like to see in Dragon Age 3 would be:

1. A side quest regarding an NPC who claims to be Andraste's descendant. Possible scenarios could include religious turmoil, a political scandal/cover-up, or the NPC in question is just a lunatic.

2. Or it would be interesting to have a playable companion who claims to be Andraste's descendant. Again... the companion quest could cover one of the three possibilities above.

I'd like to see something really cool along these lines too, like maybe Leliana is Andraste's daughter, or granddaughter, or whatever would make most sense in the timeline. Or maybe she could be Andraste herself, or her sister, whatever, the possibilities are endless, but clearly Leliana is super awesome and should be related in some way to Andraste, and the closer the better.

Andraste reincarnated?  She did get a vision.  This would be especially funny if it were so considering how the Guardian spoke to her in the temple.

It would be cool if Morrigan were a descendant of Andraste or someone else as diametrically opposed to the Andrastean ideal. Flemeth being not quite human, at least according to Morrigan, would unfortunately rule her out... unless she is a reincarnation of Andraste. That would be a mind**** and a half!

It would be interesting if Flemeth and her daughters were the descendants of Andraste. I wouldn't mind another Witch of the Wilds in DA3 Morrigan or not.

When Leliana tells you the story of Andraste she says the Maker lent Andraste his powers which frankly sounds like Chantry handwaving her wielding magic.

Andraste is the dragon, Kolgrim said.

This is one of my favorite ideas for a storyline, that some evidence pops up suggesting that Andraste was a mage herself. Cue religious upheaval.

I'm under the impression that Kolgrim and his followers are delusional fanatically religious weirdos. They live in an isolated community, fare-removed from the rest of Fereldan and might be somewhat inbred...

I entertain the idea, suggested by Wynne in all her scholarly glory, that Andraste was a mage. It makes me wonder about the Chantry and its enslavement of mages. What if the faith on which the Chantry is built is founded upon misinterpretations of historical fact, or worse a deliberate obfuscation of the truth? I lean towards the conspiracy theory end of that spectrum, but that's just me...

Sorry if I wandered a tad off topic, Trista.

My personal suspicion is that Andraste was the Dumat OGB.

Although we don't know nothing about the OGB's power, I'd say Andraste was too weak for being Dumat's (the leader, and probably the strongest Old God) OGB.
I'd say that the mage theory is more plausible.

It's my theory as to why she's been "retconned" to have survived no matter what. I don't believe Flemeth is Andraste, but it's Leliana as the parallels. The parallels!
Belief in the Maker? Check
Vision from the Maker? Check (?)
Good singer? Check
Beautiful? Check
Fereldan? Check (Fereldan parents anyway)
Betrayed by a loved one? Check
Fought against a great evil? Check

I think making Leliana an descendant of Andraste is one of the most cliche things they could do with her character. Personally, I'd prefer if it was left to us on speculating whether or not she had a vision from the Maker.

30-something generation descendent of Andraste. Most likely has less genetic material in common with Andraste than the amount of random mutations you get from a plane trip.

Unless we can somehow locate someone who inherited Andraste's mitochondria. Then we can decide:

(1) Was Andraste Human? i.e. Does she belong to any Human mitochondria haplogroup? Or was she actually Elven/Dragon/something else?

(2) Was Andraste a Mage (Magic is at least partially genetic)?

(3) Was Andraste good at aerobics (you know, mitochondria)?

Yeah, but I strongly doubt he was correct. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying he's crazy and fanatical enough that his word isn't strong evidence.

I agree, so much about Andraste is a mystery. It would be cool to meet one of her descendants!
