Sandal is a dwarf, his brother is a dwarf commoner named Flipflop (avatar)

Edit: On-topic, I thought that doing this was bugged? As in if you try it it screws up? Oh well, might have to try that with my 2nd dwarf noble whom is looking to screw Bhelen over (unlike my 1st dwarf noble whom is siding with him)

You can actually double-cross Bhelen? Waaay, dwarven politics is plain mean! I love it. Perhaps I should double-cross Harrowmount then, for how can my dwarven noble hold any personal grudge against Bhelen? She should be rather impressed at how versed he is in the game. Even if eventually, she will be better..

Don't be silly, Sandal's not a dwarf.
Gods can't be kings.

On topic, on my Dwarf Noble I did do Harrowmount's and gave the crown to Bhelen to see what would happen.

My Dwarf Noble did love vengence though, so I quickly save scummed and gave it to Harrowmount and cut Bhelen's head off. Take thar. If not for you, I would have been king!
Well, queen on that character, but you get the gist of it.

All hail the king-emperor!

I wouldn't argue with a god man.  If he is a king AND an emperor, by god let him be a king and an emperor!

A King is so beneath a God. An Emperor is the King of Kings!

Perfectly where Sandal belongs, really.

I read somewhere that if you are dwarf noble, you can get Harrowmont to ensure you are the heir to the throne when he dies. Did you not get that option?

Pfah! He is the conqueror of men, the demolisher of kings, the rightful Lord of Mankind everywhere!

He is no King.

He is the death star!

Harrowmont does a crappy job and dies, but that doesn't mean that someone better than both of them rises up to fill the void.

Harrowmont saw himself as a caretaker--nothing more, nothing less.  The only reason he put in his claim to the throne was to keep Bhelen from getting it, otherwise, he'd have been happy with Trian or the dwarf noble, or almost anyone else.  He sees Bhelen as fundamentally corrupt and lacking in honor and integrity--which, let's be honest, he is.

Bhelen is a Machiavellian figure in the truest sense of the term--if he'd ever gotten a chance to read a copy of The Prince, he'd agree wholeheartedly with Machiavelli's philosophy.  Bhelen believes that the ends justifies the means--a very dangerous path to follow.

Both individuals are poor choices as rulers--but you've got to work with what you've got...

Let us not confuse Bhelen giving tokenistic "reforms" to the Casteless (i.e. letting them die as members of his armed forces) as actually helping them. Like any third world dictator, he pretends to care about the underclass so he can manipulate the into being his powerbase. Nothing more.

I wanted to give the crown to that Descher who recognized the caste system sucked. He was a member of House Dace, I think?

So true, but Bhelen keeps a good check on his power (To people saying that he becomes a tyrant and so forth, keep in mind that was after several assassination attempts on his life. Why? Because he wanted equality for the casteless. I'd say the ends justified the means in this case.) A slight analysis of both contenders shows that Bhelen is a more firm ruler, one that will take action. I'm somewhat leaning towards Machiavelli's philosophy myself, so my natural choice was Bhelen. I'd rather have a dictator that lets his people prosper over false representation under a king that spent his whole time amongst those false representors themselves.

I thought the same thing until I looked up Harrowmont in the dragon age wiki. Basically it says you're heir to the House Aeducan, not the throne specifically. It's not ruled out, but it's not an automatic transfer either. This ending won't apply if you choose to keep the golems.

Is any of the "good" stuff about Bhelen evident if you don't know the endings? The first thing you see of Bhelen (non-dwark noble origin) on entering Orzimar is one of his lackeys murdering someone in the street. One shop-keeper says he thinks he'll increase trade with the topsiders, and there are reports that Bhelen wants to marry an castless.

Bhelen never gives any of that as his philosophy though.

You can learn his views through investigation of Orzammar.  You also learn a lot on the side-quests leading up to the crowning.  Bhelen himself does display some of his views through your conversations.
