Sequel, and make it a really long time after ME3 with new characters, evolved races etc.

Neither. Move on Bioware, do another game, or make this one better. When you say the trilogy is what it is, we expect you to keep your word. Or is the promise of money turning promises to your fan base nonviable?

Just my two cents:

A sequel would have to make one of the endings canon, which I don't think would be a good idea.  Some people are very attached to say, the Destroy ending, which would remove Geth from the game.  Others are very attached to synthesis, which completely changes the basis of all life (inorganic and organic) in the galaxy.  Not to mention the subtler choices of what happened to the Krogans or the Quarians.

In order to avoid all of that, I would say to do either a prequel or a concurrent story (not necessarily concurrent with 3, but any time during the ME series as a whole).  This would sidestep the issue of having to pick an ending, and also avoid the issue of trying to dance around picking an ending.

For those who say "But we already the know the ending of a prequel", I would just say that it depends on where you start it and who it involves.  Sure, if we follow the story of Anderson as laid out in the first book, we know that ending.  But what about a prequel set during the Rachni war?  Yes, yes, the genophage, blah, but it doesn't have to end with that.  It could be set during the intial fighting, when the galaxy being pushed back, with the ultmate goal to be uplifting the Krogan.

Or go back even farther, and set it around the time that the orginal council was formed.  This is a period that we have only the vaguest information on, and would allow a great deal of freedom in creating new stories.

Going concurrent would be good too, since this allows for all manner of different things.  Playing as a Batarian thta has to cope with their defeat at the hands of the Reapers halfway through the game.  Or playing as a Turian during the events of ME1 that's working out in the region of Omega.  Something smaller scale like that would be great since it could focus more on characters and just let the overall war be something that eithe hasn't even come yet, or is something you only hear about in the background via newsfeeds.

I would prefer a sequel. We already know what happens before the first game, but I would love to see what comes after the last.

Hi,

I would definitely appreciate a sequel. With a prequel we would soon know/guess what the ending will be. Moreover with a prequel there will be risk to have more incoherences. Let us look forward  and see Shepard's Generation passing the torch to new guys.

If you feel that an ending should be canonize, go for Destroy but from my point of view is that you don't need to canonize any ending. Just use them as a starting point like the different origins in DAO or as background for new characters. There would be only one ending you cannot use (Refusal) but if at the end of ME2 Shepard die you cannot use your save in ME3 so that would shocked me.

A sequel. You almost fu**ed up the whole saga with you "artsy endings" because you wanted to finish here, now deal with what you've done and give ME a chance to move forward the reapers and Cerberus, as it should be.

As many have mentioned before, a sequel may cause major butthurt for anti-enders and the like. If Casey & The Funky Bunch decide to make a canonical sequel to Mass Effect, I'd suggest focusing more on characters and the gameplay itself than, well, anything involving 'dat end'.

It seems like they'd have an easier time doing

a) A Side story at or near the same time of the Mass Effect Trilogy.

or...

B) A Prequel.

Sequel, is the answer. I hate the prequels is like watching a movie but someone told you the final part. One is the biggest reason why I want sequel is by Shepard and Tali relationship. When Tali said with the help of the geth, the quarian, can survive without the mask when she said that my brain almost exploded from all the things I imagined how they would, and one way would be to combine a bit of their DNA with a similar species and humans are most similar to them, with all the advantages immunological they need and who knows They could create a hybrid between the two species could have children Shepard with Tali Good end

Sequel! ALL NEW characters, places, guns, enemies. This is Bioware's chance to start fresh after all the bad rap they got from the ending of three. I for one want to really see Bioware reinvent the franchise in this one whist keeping elements that made the games so enjoyed, open choice, strong RPG elements, a strong and involved story, and a bunch of bad asses trying to save the galaxy once again.

Depending on which ending they go for though. If it's Destroy, the Geth with the reaper tech would be destroyed. Quarians wouldn't be cured. A lot of people prefer the Destroy ending since Shep survives. The Destroy ending would be the least butthurt if you want to choose a canon ending. If they want to the least changes in term of race composition and makeup then control ending would be best, I suppose.

Don't make a Mass Effect 4. If it's sequel, the problem described here will happen. If it's a prequel, everbody will know that the Reapers are dumb dolls of a crazy child.
That's why Bioware should finish all the DLCs they still want to produce for ME3, and then leave the franchise buried for at least 10 years. After that, they should reboot the series, starting with a remake of ME1, more or less like Tomb Raider.
This is the only promising future I can imagine for the franchise.

Canonize Destroy and make a sequel, please.

I didn't choose Destroy as my ending but I think that it gives more freedom to make a new game because you have the galaxy in ruins and this could be the seeding ground of new powers: warlords, pirates, rebels, Reaper worshippers, who knows... and make the main character and his partners a more "roguelike" version of Sheppard and friends so they fit in this new world (and for the love of God, please allow us to choose the race of our character).

Sequel as I am not a fan of prequels. Not matter the timeline post ME3. A canon ending will be needed.

I do like red, hint, hint

A sequel would have to make one of the endings canon, which would make our final descision even more arbitary than it was originally. I don't know why anyone who actually appreciates choice in Mass Effect could possibly think a sequel would be a good idea.

Prequel. Preferebly First Contact War, or maybe even earlier. Or why not have it just before/early in the timeline of the current trilogy, and make it about smugglers/pirates/a private detective/mercinary etc.... there are so many stories that could be told without rendering our choices throught the Trilogy trivial.

With how ME3 ended, I would much prefer a sequel. Without something to push the story forward beyond the bitter(sweet) endings of Shepard's saga, I don't think I'd really have any interest in the next ME game. The story of the ME universe needs to move forward, not backward.
