As far as people complaining about canonizing an ending, maybe they won't have to. If it's set far enough in the future, maybe the setting could be in another galaxy. You import your saves for whatever ending you chose, and in the future a way to make intergalatic travel viable is discovered. Since it's a new galaxy, it's basically a clean slate.

Now THAT is an interesting idea.  Andromeda galaxy, maybe?  Intergalactic travel is still a bit of a stretch in terms of the storytelling, and they'd have to create new aliens and worlds for that galaxy.  But it really would be as close to a clean slate as you can get.

Andromeda was what I had in mind, actually.  Maybe the way to achieve intergalatic travel could somehow involve the mass relays and I'd say the Reapers considering that we know they can travel in dark space, it'd just be a matter of going off of that, I'd say.

BW could reference that the Reapers were defeated without being too overly specific. Especially if it's in the future where some of the details may have been lost. Like at that point Shep is a legend and he's more of a myth.

Yep, something like this about 1000 or 2000 years in the future with the reapers destroyed and no clear records on how it was done should cover most of the endings, that way we can start fresh without any imports at all.

The no imports are very important as we want to start fresh with a new pc and new companions.

That means too much time, the technology could change a lot, i dont wanna see such changes, i prefer something more close to what we got now. Without  doubt a sequel, but not to far in time....

Rachni wars and krogan rebellion should be an RTS spin off of mass effect.

Yep, something like this about 1000 or 2000 years in the future with the reapers destroyed and no clear records on how it was done should cover most of the endings

So, green flashy eyes just went back normal and something fixed DNA all over the galaxy back into organics, right? Or Shepard failed (or still can fail) Control?..And don't forget there IS also fourth option (Deny - "So Be It").

Who cares how many years have passed, states of galaxy just can't be same across all possible endings. I'm a "perfect destroyer" since pre-EC and my headcanons are safe and BWproof. But I respect those who chose any of other 3 possible options. Go tell those who sacrificed their Shep for greater good of synthesis or Control, that it was for nothing, that it never happened and that BW are going to treat all that we see after Cerberus base as "Herecy and rumors"©D. Gaider.

Also, someone mentioned how people were afraid of retcons in ME2. That's wrong thing to compare with. ME1 had no vital desisions that could divide the galaxy into several totally uncompatible versions. Council dead or alive - who cares they would make new council, which was obvious. Andersn or Udina...Well, that one was respected up to ME3. And it did not really change much.

If having a story in the middle of the "current" reaper harvest counts as a sequel then so be it. I would like a sequel.

Sequel. Prequels almost never turn out well. I for one welcome the death of that trend.

In either case, I know geth will have the short end of the stick.

So I'm in "I don't care" mode, right now.

I would prefer a prequel. It's tough to top an evil race of machines that wipe out all life in the universe. A prequel would flesh out the lore of the ME universe, and we would get to see many of the historic events we've only read about.

The Mass Effect has an extremely rich history that could be explored in detail. After the ending debacle, trying to move the series forward would just make no sense.

Has to be a sequel. I like games that move things forward with their story telling. Prequels may expand on existing lore but when you know the outcome of the overall bigger picture going in it kinda spoils the mood. Take Halo Reach for example, great game, good story but we all knew how it ended so it left me feeling like what was the point.

The fact that they don't know if they should make a sequel or prequel makes me feel like they shouldn't make a ME4 at all.

Sequel, because I'd like to see what Synthesis actually is.

Yes, how dare they weigh all the options, one guy should just decide everything and give the fans the finger.

OT: Sequel please.

I am hoping for a sequal, as it lifts the confines of having to fit into an already written and very detailed history. That being said as long as the story continues in the quality that has gone before I am happy for either to be made if its what they want to write.

No point of a prequel for me. I already know what happens in the end. No point of a sequel either. Sequel means canon ending and retconning, which is an artistic vision that I will not sponsor with my money.

It seems no matter what we choose, someone will b****. If it's a prequel, some will say that the ending won't matter (pre-determined, doomed to fail for the sake of Shepard story). If it is a sequel, it will "canonize the ending." Either way, I'm excited that we are getting input AND that the series will move forward. Regardless of the decision, I am happy with more ME.

But for thoughts on the game. I'm happy with either one.
