Prequel--definitely. I realize that would mean no Humans, or Asari, or any race currently in the Mass Effect universe, unless we glimpse little lizard Drells or whatever. But I would love to know more about the Protheans. I think that would also give Bioware an easy way out as far as whether or not our choices will affect the game or not (they couldn't possibly).

However, I would feel empty inside if I didn't know what became of everyone after the events of the last game...so...

Also, please, please, please, add more safe places to explore (places like the Citadel, and Illium), One or two per game just isn't satisfying enough for me.

Sequel, time to move the story along. Open some new relays and explore new bits of the galaxy - perhaps untouched by the Reapers?

Sequel, I don't see a point in doing a prequel when you know how everything ends anyway. It would be interesting to see how the ME universe adapts post Reaper invasion.

I want a sequel. Prequel stories can be interesting, but I'd rather see something like that in the form of books, graphic novels, movies, etc...

With the way Mass Effect games are about branching storylines and player choice, a prequel wouldn't work or be very interesting because we already know not only the outcomes of events, but also the long lasting implications, and everything in between.

A sequel is the only way forward.

I've never liked prequels. Sequel all the way.

I find it hilarious that they went from "We're only going to do prequels" 7 months ago to "Do you want a prequel or sequel?" today.

Sequel. Set it 200 years in the future so in control, the reapers have rebuilt and left. So the post war universe seems like it would in Destroy. Therefore satisfy both destroy and control fans. But sythesis fans may be pissed.

Going so far back as to remove a lot of key things about the world: The Genophage having ever existed, the First Contact War, Even the Rachni Wars, is an interesting idea to see first hand so as to get a better view of the world we just played through.

But thanks to the 'Leviathan' DLC, we also have a perfect new enemy to fight in the wake of the Reapers. I'll avoid spoilers and such but the fact that they just about openly state that 'they' aren't fighting for us but rather to reclaim 'such and such' is pretty clear that there will be conflict with 'them' in the future.

As to what ending would be picked, you have the option of repairing after the defeat of the reapers, thus making 'that red one' canon, or having everything already rebuilt, allowing the user to think either 'green or blue' was what really happened.

The problem with a prequel is that everything has already happened. While, yes, wewould be able to decide smaller factors such as 'main character boinks so-and-so' The fact remains that key things can' be changed and our decisions will eventually mean nothing. Sound familiar?

The Problem with a sequel is that we can't be sure what happened. Even if keeping the details vague to let the players decide if 'blue or green' really happened, you'll have all those people who did 'red' who'll be disappointed. While the potential is there, Bioware would have to tread lightly...or set a default ( vote 'red'.) and allow for saves from ME3 to be transferred to the so-called ME4 to decide the player's own galactic future. Did 'Those space turtles' die out? are they at war with the Galaxy? Have they enterred their own Pax Krogana and are seen as the Galaxy's Heroes? Could those robot dudes have been repaired, even after 'red'?

As I said for sequels: Interesting, but risky.

Prequels: More likely, but also less satisfying.

Sequel, but only if they dont force one ending to be canon.

Prequel set in the Human-Turian war would be awesome too.

If they can do a sequel without cannonizing an ending then I am all for it. If they have ot maek a canon ending then no.
Honestly I would prefer a game that runs right next to the original ME trilogy on a timeline. Just give me a different hero with a different stroy. Shepard was dead 2 years and Reapers and Collectors could not have been the only problems the galaxy was facing.

Sequel. Set it like 1000 years in the future. You wouldn't really have to touch on the endings of three much because nobody really knows what the heck happened way back then. They could have myths or legends or whatever, but as far as they know life has always been the way that it is now.  No explanation needed.

I already tweeted him that i want to see a sequel. Push the series forward, where there's more legroom to expand the universe and it's lore. I want to see new races join galactic civilation, technology that's advanced even further, new characters, etc.

This 100%.

Why is this even a question? If it's a prequel it's locked in the rather boring timeframe between the first contact war and ME1 since there is absolutely no possibility they will make a game without humans. Sequel is the only thing that makes sense.

Sequel never prequel!

Even if it means canonizing a ending. Honestly they can canonize some of the big decisions, from metrics it seems most people went Paragon, so cured Krogan, peace between Quarians and Geth and such. I think people would be accepting of that as long as the 'smaller" more personal decisions remain unmentioned.

For the state of the galaxy it doesnt really matter what gender Shepard was or who s/he had a relationship with, only that the galaxy was saved and Reaper butt was kicked.

And sequal leaves room to discover new races from previously closed relays, explore more of the galaxy, maybe even develop technology beyond what the Reapers left behind or the path they wanted.

Prequel..

Always wanted to know more about Rachni Wars, First Contact War, Skyllian Blitz, Krogan Rebellions and other important events that took place before ME 1..

Not interested in Shepard-less ME4 sequel..

Perhaps it's a new Casey Hudson? Or maybe he just asked the question but doesn't really care what fans answer.
