I don't think for a minute that Casey et al. are even jokingly toying around with the idea of doing post-Crucible Mass Effect games. That ship sailed FOREVER when they flushed their get out of jail free card down the toilet. They painted themselves into this corner and that's the price of 'artistic integrity'.

I hate to have to break it to you all in denial here but it's prequels all the way down and this is just EA comissioned fan pandering to remind us all that our opinions are "important".

The choice mechanic make this an easy one. Sequel.

If we go with a prequel then nothing we have done in the past 3 games matters. And let's not kid ourselves. Forward momentum with what we have done in the past through 3 games is an active draw to playing through the trilogy.

Choice leads to consequence. Therefore, the next game should be a sequel. Becasue frankly, only a sequel that shows the consequence of Shepards final act can overcome the way that ending was handled.

Besides, the fans have already made fan based shorts like Red Sand, and.......... that other one. The past should be for the fans to continue ot mine and the books to explore. The future canon of ME has to come from BW.

Think.

Why would they canonize Synthesis? What kind of  compelling video game story could you make from that? Everyone in the Galaxy is half machine, everything is utopic, and there is presumably no conflict.

Why would all conflicts cease? Full machines(Geth) were not immune to strife so why would half-machines be incapable of conflict? That makes zero sense.

It makes no sense for them to choose that a starting point. Also there's the fact that most people hate Synthesis

Most people hated the GodChild but they kept that when they had a chance to get of it.

Download the MEHEM and then tell me where your GodChild is now! Mwahaha!

Sorry, but losing the Catalyst was the single most fuffilling thing I've done since I made a perfect chocolate hedgehog cake. With buttons.

You've synthesised your Galaxy. Your not getting your green fingers on mine.

Besides. Shepard may have 'saved' everyone in synthesis. But he did so with no elected mandate. Plus. If a husk and a solider bent on killing each other suddenly become life long pals. Did you consider what existance each would live? The soldier looks the same as before, but the husk? That was once a person. And while the urge to kill may be gone the husk was not shown to have higher brain functions. He was simply passified with no mention of what it's future would be. You Synthesis Utopia therefore include's brain dead zombie husks bumbling around with the Brutes and the Cannial's who no longer have anything to nibble on.

For all the benefit's of Synthesis. It seems that the Reaperised life forms get airbrushed out of this Utopia.

Sequel. Prequels are generally boring, DE:HR notwithstanding.

+ want to see new worlds and civilisations.... (along with whatever the old have evolved into).

I think they should follow the storyline of Destroy or Synthesis. It doesn't validate the other endings, but it would just mean that Bioware chooses to continue the storyline in one of the endings. The other endings could still happen, but they just didn't show it.

ME3's ending gutted any enjoyment I might have gotten from a prequel, even the existing three games that led up to it. So for me, I'm hoping for a sequel.

What is a starchild anyway? I keep seeing it. I knows it refers to the kid but why?

The offspring of Star Man before social services came and took him away from a loving supportive family and caused thim to act out against society by inventing the Reapers to compensate for a central authority figure.

Seriously though. The kid glows and shimmers. Star Child seems as good a name as any.

Star Brat works too.

Judging by all these answers I think its safe to say that there's gonna be a sequel.

Hopefully not based on Synthesis, because that would be horrible.
